Mobile phones are becoming more and more popular not only with adults but also with students. However, they also have become a problem for middle schools in the last few years.

Some children have got mobile phones as Christmas or birthday gifts, and more will ask their parents to buy phones for them.

Many students like mobile phones because they are easy and quick. Some parents feel it convenient because they can get in touch with their children. Some teachers think using mobile phones is a distraction(分心的事)to students during school hours and mobile phones also give them much trouble in their classrooms. Sometimes students send phone messages to cheat(作弊)during exams. A new study says that some teenagers even hurt their fingers because of the over-use of mobile phones. They keep using mobile phones for more than ten hours during a day.

Many teachers suggest that students should not have phones at school, but if there is a good reason, they can leave their phones at the school office. Many people think they understand why parents would want their children to have them, but they agree school should let the students know when they can use their mobile phones.

I work in a foreign company in my city. My company is big and I always have lots of work to do. However, no matter how 1  I am every day, I won't forget one important thing. That is to 2  my daughter Sally at her school gate on time. I hope that she can see 3 as soon as she rushes out of her school. After we get home, Sally 4  her workbooks and starts to do her homework at once. After she finishes it, we go to the park in our neighbourhood. There Sally plays with other kids. I 5  wait for her. Every time I tell her that it's 6 to go back home, Sally answers, "Five more 7  , Dad!"I always smile and say"OK"to her.

I didn't spend lots of time 10  Sally, in fact. I didn't change 11  Tom's son died in a traffic accident. Tom told me that he almost had no time to stay with his son, not even five minutes a day. I can never 12  Tom's sadness. At that time I decided not to make the same 13 as Tom had made. I think that when my daughter wants more time to play, I have more time to 14  being with her.

Harry is one of my best friends. He is an outgoing boy. He works really hard and is good at all his 1 . Everybody in our class likes him.

However, things were different after Allen came to our class. Allen was less hard- working than Harry. He always got 2 grades than Harry did. But he had the 3 hobby as Harry. 4 of them liked tennis. So they often played together and 5 their feelings with each other.

 Do you know about the Color Run? Some people say it's the happiest running experience in the world. The sport is a 5- km run where everyone throws colored dust(粉末) at each other. The sport is very popular in the US and it's getting more popular in China, too.

 The sport is similar to an Indian holiday called Holi. The holiday came from stories about good beating evil(邪恶), but today it's about having fun. Everyone throws colored dust at each other and shouts" Happy Holi".

 The Color Run doesn't have a time limit(限制), and there are no winners or prizes. The only rule is that runners have to start the race wearing all white. They want everyone to forget about competition and just enjoy the experience.

 During the race, after every kilometer, there are people holding colored dust who will splash (泼洒) you with it. By the end of the race, the runners will be covered with all the colors.

Thomas Edison was born in 1847. He was in school for only three months, but he asked a lot of questions. He liked to know how things worked. At the age of ten, he built a small chemistry lab (化学实验室) . He plantedvegetables in his garden and sold them to buy chemicals. 

One day, his mother was ill(生病的). The doctor said she needed an operation. But it was night and the oil lamp (油灯) in the room gave poor light. Edison thought hard and had an idea. He put all the oil lamps in his home on a long table. Then he put a big mirror (镜子) behind them. The room became quite bright, so the doctor could operate. 

At the age of twelve, Edison began selling candy, sandwiches and newspapers on a train. When he was free, he printed(打印) newspapers on the train and sold them to the railway workers. 

One day in August, 1862, Edison saw a boy playing on the tracks at a station. A train was coming near quickly, and the boy was too frightened (害怕的) to move. Edison took the boy to a safe place quickly. The boy's father was the station master. He was so thankful that he taught Edison railway telegraphy (电报学). Edison soon became very good at it and later he left home to work in different cities. This gave him a new start in his life. He was then just a boy of sixteen.

Machine learning and AI are hot topics today.  Do you want to know more about them? Join the club and our leader Mr.  Lu will help you find your talent (天赋) in this field.  It might even help you get a good job. 

Soup Kitchen Club

In this club, our leader Mr.  Zhang will show you how to cook delicious soup.  You can work at a food bank or a soup kitchen.  You will spend a few hours at a time giving food to people who really need it.  It's very helpful.
