"Make—A —Wish" "is one of the world's{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(much) well-known charities.

It makes wishes{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(come ) true for children who have serious{#blank#}3{#/blank#}( ill ). It gives them hope {#blank#}4{#/blank#}helps them forget about their health problems.

It started in 1980 in Phoenix. Arizona. Christopher was a 7-year-old boy who was very sick. He always dreamed of becoming a pilot {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(fly) in the sky. They gave Christopher a tour of a city in a police helicopter(直升飞机) and bought a a space helmet for him.

There are four kinds of wishes children usually have:

I wish to go. Children usually want to visit some places of {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(interesting),{#blank#}7{#/blank#}the Statue of Liberty. 

I wish to meet. Children sometimes want to meet their favourite film stars or sports players.

I wish to be. Some children wish to become doctors to help people who don't have money for {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(medicine) treatment.

I wish to have. Some children want to have a computer, a bike or many other things. {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(luck) for them, they can get what they want from the charity.

Let's hope more wishes will come true in the future. People who work in the charity always try for their{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(well). Will you be one of them？

Here are some English study skills for beginners.

★Listening

Listening is a great way to improve your pronunciation and intonation(语调). You can start by listening to short stories for children because they are usually easy.

★Reading

Reading is a good way to help you learn new words. And it will also help you learn English grammar. Children's books are great for beginners..

★Vocabulary

When you come across new words in the reading, write them down in your notebook. You can write down the translation in your native language to help you understand.

★Speaking

While doing your reading exercises, read them aloud. You can also look for some articles on the Internet to read.

① We can find ants everywhere— in the forests and mountains, in the fields, in the countryside and cities, all over the earth. But how much do you know about them?

② Their colour is usually yellow, brown, red or black. These little animals live and work in groups. They always build "houses", find food and raise babies together. The colony (群) of ants can be small or large. The number can be from just a few to millions!

③ Usually, there are three castes (等级) in ant societies. They are queens, the males and the workers. Queen ants are usually the biggest ants in colonies.  ▲  It lays (产) all the eggs, so the queen becomes the most important ant in the colony. A queen ant can live for longer. The males have larger wings and larger bodies than the worker ants. They can help out with the colony housework, but mostly they do not. They can only live for a few weeks. The queens and the workers are the winners by numbers. The workers do all the "housework"— from building and cleaning the "house" to looking for food. Workers usually live for several months. Workers are also good at building homes. They can build their homes in different places. You may find their homes under rocks or in the trees. How amazing!

④ One ant by itself cannot bring any danger to many other larger animals. However, they can beat much bigger animals in large groups. By working together, these brave(勇敢的) ants can protect their colonies against other animals. 

 Recently, 76% of people between the ages of 65 and 74, who took part in a survey, said they used social media, compared to 40% five years earlier. An increase in social media use was also seen among people aged 75 and over. A growing number of elderly people are active on social networks and are using the Internet to make calls.

 But how will you feel when you find out your grandparents are using social media? Many young people may think" Oh no! They' re going to see everything I post and start writing comments(评论)" and many others say" I'm going to have to spend hours teaching them how to use social media. It's troublesome". Once they have learned how to use social media, they may get a lot of fun. Take Amy for example. She is an 80-year-old granny who has over three million followers on a social media platform because of her sincere sharing on fashionable dressing and positive life attitude.

 Honestly, you should be happy if your grandparents are eager to join the digital worlds. Social media use can have a number of health benefits for the elderly. Nowadays families are more geographically distant than ever before, and social media is a great way to connect with faraway relatives and friends. While nothing replaces face-to-face communication, social media is a great way to keep in touch with family members. Another benefit is that elderly people can make new friends who share similar interests, or find long-lost friends from childhood. Finally, social media use can be very educational. For example, looking through Wechat news is a great way to stay informed and keep up to date with local and global events.
