Everyone keeps some important and events in mind. I remember very clearly the day when my younger sister was born (出生). It was a(n)  Saturday in December, and it was snowing. My mother went to the hospital with my father. I stayed home with Aunt Shelly. We the room and made the bed for the new baby. And then I made a snowman outside and called it Baby.

There was still no news by dinner time. In the beginning, we were very worried. Aunt Shelly and I both sat by the phone. At around 9:15 p.m., suddenly, the phone ring broke the . My father said it was a beautiful girl. They named her Emma.

We were very excited to the news.

The next day, I got up early before the sun rose because I couldn't wait to see Emma. We made way to the hospital because it was hard to walk on the road. When we arrived at the hospital, I saw Emma was in Mom's arms. She looked so small but really lovely. When I took her hands for the first time, I realized what it meant to be an elder brother—I would protect (保护) her and never let anybody her. That's what I have done in the past ten years. And I will keep on doing it in the future.

Dean felt his arms and legs were burning. With each breath, Dean wondered if he should be done, but as he touched the wall at the end of the pool he turned for another lap (圈). "I can do one more. This is for Kevin," Dean told himself. He was starting his seventh lap.

Dean and the other members of his swim team were swimming to raise money for Dean's best friend, Kevin Hawking. Earlier in the year, Kevin fell ill. He needed expensive medical care that his family couldn't afford. After Kevin's friends learned what was happening, they started brainstorming ways to help. Several of Kevin's friends were on the swim team, which led to the idea of swimming.

For a month, Dean and the other swim team members had asked for pledges (承诺) from anyone who would help: family members, friends, and neighbours. Most people pledged a dollar or two each lap. Dean's grandmother said she would offer $ 10 for each lap Dean swam!

Finally, as Dean completed his tenth lap, he knew he was too tired to keep going. If I try another lap. I'll end up lying in the middle of the pool, waiting for someone to come and get me, he thought. Dean pulled himself up onto the edge of the pool and sat breathing quickly for a couple of minutes, quietly resting before he tried to stand.

Dean's father came over and said, "Wow, Dean," shaking his head in amazement, "I am so proud of you. That's farther than anyone else has swum today, and I know it's farther than you've ever swum before."

Dean stood up and slowly walked with his father back to the seats where the other swimmers sat next to Kevin. "Thank you," Kevin said.

"It's no big deal. I know you'd do the same for me," Dean said.

Ye Jiaying was born into a family of scholars in July 1924 in Beijing. As an expert in the study of classical Chinese literature (文学), she started her lifelong career as a literature teacher in 1945 when she graduated from Fu Jen Catholic Unisersity, which later became part of Beijing Nonnal University.

In 1966, the couple moved to the United States, where Ye first taught Chinese poetry at Michigan State University and then at Harvard University. Later, they moved to Canada and she worked as a tenured professor at the University of Columbia in Canada.

 根据短文内容,回答下列问题。

A 17-year-old girl Xu Zhuoyuan got to the top of the highest peak in Africa on January 1,

2024. Xu's mountaineering journey began on a family trip to Xizang and Sichuan four years ago. Passing by the mountains in Sichuan, she felt drawn to their beauty. So she decided to try climbing them. For the next few years, Xu did hard training. She climbed peaks over 5,000 meters and did physical exercises every day. All that hard work got her ready for the big challenges she would face on Kilimanjaro.

Above 4,000 meters on Mount Kilimanjaro, the climate (气侯) is similar to a desert, with big temperature differences. The whole climb took seven days, during which Xu faced unpredictable weather such as rain and strong winds. Staying warm and avoiding heat loss were the main challenges. Xu had to keep an eye on the temperature and change her clothes when the temperature changed. This climb was also a learning experience for Xu. She was climbing with Xia Boyu, the first Chinese climber to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma with a prosthetic (假肢的)leg. He was almost 74 years old, but was still pushing on despite(尽管) having bloodied legs from his prosthesis. She was deeply inspired(深受鼓舞的) after seeing Xia's bloodied legs.

She planned to climb the highest peak on each of the seven continents (大陆) and visit the North and South Poles (南极) by the time she's 18. That's her "7+2 program".
