There are 24 solar terms(节气)in China. They can guide farming activities and are believed to be an outstanding achievement by ancient Chinese. 

Grain Rain" is the sixth solar term in the 24 solar terms and it is the last solar term in spring. It falls on April 20 this year. The term"Grain Rain" came from a folk story. When Cang Jie created writing characters, grain came down from sky like rainfall. Therefore, the Yellow Emperor named this day as the "Grain Rain". When this day comes, the number of rainfall increases. It is very important for the growth of the grain. 

Nowadays, different areas have different customs during "Grain Rain", Picking and cooking tea leaves: "Grain Rain Tea" is the name for the tea made around the time of "Grain Rain" in the south of China. it is considered as one of the best kinds of tea. it not only has a strong and good taste but also can last for a long time in water. 

Blessing(祈福)to the sea: "Grain Rain" is a perfect time for fishing. Since it gets warmer and warmer, the sea also gets warmer and more fishes swim in the sea. Fishermen in the north often bless for safety and success on the sea. 

Killing insects: As the weather gets warmer. insects become more active. Farmers in Shandong, Shanxi and Shaanxi often use different methods to kill insects. 

Taking a bath: In some of the north-west areas, people take the shower in the river during "Grain Rain" period. They think it can help them be far away from the bad luck. 

Confucianism (儒家思想) has been followed by Chinese people for more than two thousand years. 

To help people understand how to behave towards others, Confucianism teaches the Five Constants (五常). These are ren, yi, li, zhi and xin. They are general virtues (美德) around the world. The most important two are ren and li. 

Ren is the feeling of care and love we should have for others. Confucius explained ren could best be understood as loving others. He is famous for teaching people. "What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others." It is quite similar to what is known in the West as the Golden Rule. "Treat others as you wish to be treated."

While the meaning of ren is easy to understand, li is a little harder to express. It can be thought of as duty or even respect. Generally, li is the way we should connect with people in our everyday life. In Confucian writings, discussions about li include the proper way to drink tea and how to remember ancestors. While ren is mostly about our opinions and feelings, li is about how we express our opinions and feelings towards others and towards the world around us. 

Perhaps the most well-known Confucian virtue is xiao. This is the duty children have to their parents. Xiao means loving, respecting, obeying and taking care of one's parents in their old age. In Confucianism, xiao is important for a harmonious (和谐的) society. Without it, the whole world would fall into a mess.

The holiday season will be here soon，and with it come tons of parties. Here's how to mind your manners at the dinner table：

First things first：

Mind the little details. Respond to invitations in time；it's always better to be overdressed；be fashionably on time；bring a gift for your host or hostess；and remember to silence your phone and keep it out of sight. 

After you sit down：

The first thing you should do is place your napkin（餐巾）in your lap. Leave it there until the end of the meal. If you excuse yourself from the table，the most common practice is to place it on your seat until you return. If you're worried that your napkin has food on it that could make the seat or your clothes dirty when you sit back down，place it to the left of your plate instead. 

To locate your bread plate and drink：

When in doubt，look to your hands. With your palms（手掌）facing each other，connect the tip of each pointer finger（食指）with your thumbs（拇指）. You'll see that your left hand will form a "b"，and your right hand，a "d". These stand for "bread" and "drink"，which you will find to your left and to your right，separately. 

What to do with utensils（餐具）：

Your safest bet is to start from the outside﹣the utensils farthest from your plate﹣and move inward as the meal progresses. However，dessert（甜点）utensils may also be found above your plate. 

Resting utensils：

If you are taking a break from eating，imagine your plate is a clock and place your knife and fork down at the 3 o'clock position. You can show that you are finished eating by placing your utensils in the 10 and 4 o'clock positions. 

After the party：

Don't forget a thank﹣you note. It should be sent within two weeks after the event. 

Being polite is important in everyday life. When you make a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, remember to say "please". It is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} to ask for things without being kind.

If someone asks for your help, don't doubt your ability to be {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Offer help, even if it's just a little. When giving {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, be clear and exact, so they don't get lost. In general, small acts of kindness can {#blank#}5{#/blank#} people greatly.

In our school, all students have their favourite subjects. But students in different grades like different subjects. 

In Grade Seven, students' favourite subject is always Chinese, because it's their mother tongue and it's easy for them. And most of them don't like English. They think English is very difficult, because it's different from Chinese. And they like PE and music, too. Students at this age like playing sports. They can play soccer, basketball in PE classes. Why is music welcome? Most of them think music is relaxing. 

In Grade Eight, some students like maths very much. But they aren't very good at maths, because maths in Grade Eight is a little difficult. They need to do exercises for a long time. Students in Grade Eight also like science and geography. They can learn a lot from science. And they also say they seem (似乎) to go around China in geography classes. 

In Grade Nine, English is some students' favourite subject. It's useful. Students often talk with friends in English after school. They even watch English programs on TV to learn more. 

 In China, people celebrate the Spring Festival on the first day of the first lunar month (阴历月). It's important for all the Chinese to {#blank#}1{#/blank#} time with their family. Children {#blank#}2{#/blank#} like this festival because they can wear new clothes and get lucky money from their grandparents, parents, uncles or aunts. We have many interesting things. On the first day of the Chinese New Year, our parents {#blank#}3{#/blank#} very early and cook dumplings. They often put coins (硬币) into some dumplings. It's meaningful. If you eat a dumpling with a coin in it, you can have good luck in the coming new year. After breakfast, we do many interesting {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. We play cards, and visit relatives (亲戚) and friends. We sit around and eat many kinds of {#blank#}5{#/blank#} foods. We all have a good time.
