Do you know what Oxfam is? Where was it started? How many branches does it have now?

"Oxfam" is the short form for the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief (全国饥荒救济委员会). It is an international organization to help the poor all over the world. It was started in 1942 in England during the Second World War to provide relief to war victims in Europe. When the war was over, Oxfam continued its work, sending materials and money to the poor throughout Europe. Since then, Oxfams have been founded in 12 countries, such as Oxfam America, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Hong Kong and so on.

Twenty-eight years later, a group of volunteers started Oxfam America. It was first in Washington, DC, then in 1973 Oxfam America moved to Boston. In England, Oxfam organizes many charity activities every year to raise money. It also runs many charity shops. The shops receive things donated by people and sell them to those who need them. The money from the sales will be used to help the homeless and the poor in different parts of the world.

Oxfam Hong Kong is a member of Oxfam International. Every year Oxfam Hong Kong organizes Trailwalker to collect money for the poor in Hong Kong and some other areas in the world.

Strawberries look nice, but a light pressure can make them out of shape. Nowadays there are many young people who are just like strawberries. They easily break down when they face difficulties. They don't know what to do when they are in trouble. They have a common name —strawberry kids. 

 Why are many students so easy to break down ? Parents and schools are a main reason. Parents do almost everything for them in their daily life, while schools care more about their grades instead of developing their personality (个性）. Liu Yue 13, is from Fujian. His mom hardly criticizes (批评）him and he always feels good about himself. When a teacher criticized him strictly, he felt surprised and sad. He began to doubt his ability.

Students should do something to make themselves mentally strong. An expert said, "When you are in trouble, don't ask for help too quickly. You should try to deal with problems first by yourself." I also advise you to take an active part in sports and social activities. That can make you mentally strong.

Growing up is not just a happy process (过程）. Pains also go along with it. The most important thing is to face the pains bravely and learn from them.

If you live with one parent, you know that a lot of other kids do, too. More than 20 million kids in the United States live with one parent. Separation(分离) and divorce(离婚) are the most common reasons for this. In other cases, the mom and dad may never have lived together, or one of them may have died. 

Living with one parent instead of two can bring out a lot of emotions. These feelings can be pretty strong, and they can be confusing, too. You might feel terribly sad and angry because your parents divorced. 

You also might feel happy that your parents split up and aren't fighting anymore, but you may also feel upset when your mom brings home a man that she is dating. You might love the uncle or grandma who takes care of you, but sometimes you might wish you could have one family with both a mom and a dad. 

Emotions all by themselves aren't either good or bad. They're just feelings. Because living with one parent can sometimes be stressful, it can help to talk about it. You can talk with your parent, a relative, school teacher, or another trusted adult. Talking with other kids who live with single parents can be a great idea, too.

A young man heard their conversation and he walked over. He said to the boy,"I don't agree with her. You should keep waiting. Don't lose your heart." The boy looked up at the young man and his eyes were full of hope again. After a while, the boy walked back to sell his bread.

 Suddenly, a car stopped. A young woman in the car said to the boy," Hey, little boy. It's good to see you here. I want to buy all your bread for the children in our Hope House."

Do you know Guinness Book of World Records(《吉尼斯世界纪录大全》)? It tells us the fastest and the strongest people in sports, the strongest and the shortest people or buildings, the fattest and the thinnest, the best and the worst in the world. All the records in the book are all true. 

Are these records boring? Of course not. It is a wonderful book and it has world records for everyday things. For example, the largest picnic blanket(野餐毯) is 1, 760 square meters. The heaviest lemon is 5, 265 kilograms. The smallest working dog is about 3 pounds, and it is only a little heavier than twelve eggs. 

There are some funny records as well. A T-shirt was made to set a record. It's about a hundred times bigger than an usual T-shirt and it took almost 11, 000 hours to make it by hand. The most people for watching a basketball game is 3, 589 million(百万) for NBA in 1998.
