Once upon a time, there was an old woman. Her son was really lazy and did nothing at all. The old woman became 1 about his future. One day, she said to her son, "I hope you can go to this island and find some treasure." After saying that, she gave 2  son a bag. It was her son's 3 time to go to a place so far away. So she prepared some food, some clothes, some money and a map in the bag.

The son started the long journey the next day. During the long journey, he had to cook meals for himself.4 his way to the island, he met many people. Some of them helped him. Three months  5 , he got to  the island. 6  , he could not find any treasure. He felt quite sad and began to return home. On his way back home, he could 7 look after himself. And surprisingly, he met those people  8  helped him before. This time he stayed with them for a few days and helped them with some farm work.

When he got home, he told his mother that he could not find any treasure. His mother smiled and said, "My son, to be honest, there is no treasure in  9  island. But I think you  10 the most valuable treasure in life already. This is something you can only learn through the course of life."

Su Shi, known as Su Dongpo, was a famous Chinese writer, poet and painter.

When he was young, he read a lot of books and wrote many good articles. People thought {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (high) of him. Because of this, he became very proud and wrote a couplet (对联) for {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (him).

Knowing all the words in the world;

Reading all the books on the earth.

A wise old man saw this couplet and thought, "It is necessary for Su Shi {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (learn) how to be modest." So, one day, he came to Su Shi's house with a book.

The old man showed Su Shi the book and explained, "So far, I {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (read) the book several times, but there are still some difficult words that I can't understand. I have asked many people, but none of them could understand their {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (meaning). I have heard that you are a person of rich knowledge, so I come to ask you."

Full of confidence, Su Shi took the book from the old {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (man) hand, but when he opened it, he became very {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (surprise) because there were many words he didn't know. At that moment, Su Shi realized that there were many more things that he had to learn.

Actually, the old man knew every word in this book. He just wanted to make Su Shi know the importance of {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (be) modest. Su Shi was embarrassed (尴尬的) and said, "Now I know why you came. I shouldn't have been so arrogant (自大的)."

The old man smiled and {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (leave). Then Su Shi quickly took his brush and ink, and added some words to the couplet:

Working hard to know all the words in the world;

Being determined to read all the books on the earth.

 From then on, he worked even {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (hard) than before. Finally, Su Shi made great achievements in many fields, especially in literature.

Many of us don't spend a lot of time improving our writing skills. The following suggestions can be h{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. 

Make good word choices. When we're not sure which word is the c{#blank#}2{#/blank#}one for a   sentence, look it up in a dictionary. In that way, we are more likely to express ourselves properly, especially for{#blank#}3{#/blank#} ( 演 讲 ). 

Check facts. If we want people to believe what we write, we must make sure our facts are true and vivid. The facts will impress the readers. 

Polish. It is rewriting. Try to{#blank#}4{#/blank#}( 避 免 ) some mistakes. Although it takes more time and more work, rewriting makes our writing better. 

Read a{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Sometime it's easier to find problems with spelling, word usage, and g{#blank#}6{#/blank#}. It also helps us not only find out our problems but also{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(欣赏) our writing. Prepare a list. It includes: Is there a proper title? Is the beginning attractive enough? Have we explained every point? Is the ending brief? This can help us to make sure we have covered everything{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(精确).

 And you can also see {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (snake), zebras and other interesting animals. But you can't get close to the dangerous animals {#blank#}6{#/blank#} feed them. Next to the Mai Po Marshes, there is {#blank#}7{#/blank#} interesting park. The environment of the park is like that of the Mai Po Marshes. So animals {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (live) in peace there. It is not as big as the nature park, but you can play {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (happy) in this park. You can also learn something about animals in the park {#blank#}10{#/blank#} you don't have a chance to go to the Mai Po Marshes.
