Li Lei just graduated from college, he was going for a job interview in Shaoyang. He arrived at the bus station quite early for bus. The bus for Shaoyang would not leave until five to twelve. He saw a lot of people waiting in the station. Some were standing in line; Others were walking around. There was a group of schoolgirls. The teacher was trying to keep them in line. Li Lei looked around but there was no place for him to sit.

    He walked into the station Coffee. He looked up at that clock there. It was only twenty to twelve.  He found a seat and sat down before a large mirror（镜子） on the wall. Just then, Han Meimei, one of Li Lei's friends came in and sat with Li Lei. "What time is your bus?" asked Han Meimei. "There's plenty of time yet." Answered Li Lei. "Well, I'll get you more tea then" said Han Meimei.

    They talked while drinking, Then Li Lei looked at the clock again. "Oh! it's going backward!" he cried. "A few minutes ago, it was twenty to twelve and now it's half past eleven". "You're looking at the clock in the Mirror" Said Han Meimei. Li Lei was so sad, the next bus was not to leave for another hour, since then Li Lei has never liked mirrors.

    We walked all afternoon with Infadoos and Scragga. Their men walked about a hundred metres ahead of us.

    “When did your people, the Kukuana, come to this place?”

    “They came from the north many thousands of moons ago,” Infadoos explained. “When they reached the mountains, they could go no farther. They stayed here where the land is good and there is water.”

    “Do you live here in peace?” I asked.

    “There have been two wars. Once an army came down from the north, but we killed most of them. Soon after that, we fought among ourselves.” He said, “The king at that time had two sons—twins. When he died, both young men wanted to be king. One of the twins, Twala, killed the other and became king.”

    “Did the dead man have a wife and children?” I asked. I knew that if he did, the fighting could start again one day.

    “Yes. He had a wife, Imotu, and a son, Ignosi. They ran away.” He pointed to a village a short way ahead. “That is the village where Imotu and Ignosi first hid,” he said. “We shall stay there tonight.”

    As soon as we were within a mile or so of the village, an army of men came out. As we passed them, they shouted a welcome.

    Their women were in the village. They stopped whatever they were doing to watch us pass by, but they were not rude. As soon as we were comfortable in a hut, they came with milk, honey, and cooked food.

    A young man brought a fat young ox which he killed and cut into pieces. We took a few pieces for ourselves and gave him the rest. We don't want them to think we were selfish.（选自《所罗门王的宝藏》，有删节）

Many years ago, when I was working as a volunteer(志愿者)at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Lisa. The poor little girl had a very serious disease and was dying. The doctor had done his best but no medicine really worked. The only chance to save her seemed to be a blood transfusion(输血)from her five-year-old brother. The little boy had the same disease before and had developed the antibodies(抗体)to fight the illness.

    The doctor talked to me little boy about what they planned to do, and asked him if he would be willing(愿意的)to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate(迟疑)for a moment. He took a deep breath and said, "Yes, I'll do it if it can save Lisa."

    As the transfusion was going on, the little boy lay quietly in bed next to his sister. He looked at her and smiled all the time. When everything was done and the color returned to his sister's face, his smile disappeared and he looked a little afraid. He looked up at the doctor and asked, "Will I start to die now?"

    He was too young to understand the doctor. He thought he would have to give all his blood to his sister, but he agreed.

My name is Bob. This summer I went to Shimla and Manali with my family.

After we arrived at Manali on the first day, we lived in a cheap hotel. The next day we were very excited to visit Manali. After delicious breakfast at the hotel, we went on sightseeing tours in the city. We were very surprised to see the fantastic and beautiful nature with high mountains and thick forests around. Then we visited some other places of interest.

The third day after breakfast we went to Rohtang Pass, about 51 kilometers away from Manali. It was really beautiful and we enjoyed a lot by watching the beautiful Himalayas. Then we visited Solang Valley.

The fourth day we went to Shimla by car. After we got there, we had a good sleep at the hotel and woke up in the early morning with the excitement of Shimla tours. After breakfast we visited Shimla. We visited lots of attraction (有吸引力的地方).

The fifth morning we went to Chandigarh Railway Station by car. We took the train to Delhi and returned to our home with the sweet and nice memories of Shimla and Manali tours.

Once upon a time in a big city, I walked along the street and suddenly I found an interesting coffee shop, in which I could {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (承担得起) to buy a coffee. I went inside and met a {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (陌生人) with long curly hair. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (她的) friendly face made me think of someone know. We then decided to sit down beside a table and begin a talk. She was such an{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (外向的) girl that I laughed all the time over the talk. Her good {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (礼仪) made the talk even more enjoyable. Therefore, we shared almost everything {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (直接地) with each other, like our opinions on events and our interests in life. We were just like old friends that we even {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (提到) our private stories and feelings. In our conversation, I also learned something {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (宝贵的) from her experiences. Her attitudes towards the ups and downs in her life really touched my heart. All {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (反映) that she was such a positive girl that it is {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (值得) making friends with her. In the end, we said goodbye, feeling happy for the luck to meet each other. It did turn a simple day into an unusual experience.

"What's your favourite sport, Nick?" Ms Green asked. 

Nick thought for a moment. Everyone in the class was looking 1 him. He was nervous. He needed a good 2 . "I like football. "

Everyone smiled. A few people said, "I like3 too!"

That was a4 answer. Nick really liked hockey (冰球), but no one else in class 5 it. He wished he could be honest (诚实的),6 he worried about what they would say. They would say things like, "Hockey? Why? What is that?" They didn't know about it. 

Nick came from Maryland. All the kids there liked hockey. However, in Florida, kids loved football. He didn't really understand7 they didn't like hockey. 

His dad said, "Their families grew up8 football. They like football. We grew up watching hockey, so we like hockey. But why don't you 9 some kids to enjoy the hockey game? We can teach them."

Nick did that. He asked his friends Dave and Tommy. They knew 10 about hockey. They had 11 been to the game before. Dave and Tommy asked Nick lots of 12 about the rules and the teams. They thought the game was13 . All of them had fun. 

The next time Ms Green asked Nick what his favourite 14 was, he said, "Hockey."

Dave and Tommy smiled, "We like hockey too!" Nick was 15 that other people liked the things he liked. It made him feel like he had friends who understood him.
