Yesterday the police were joined by more than 20 volunteers in the continuing search for the two missing teenagers, Vicky Gray and Tom Hunter, and their guide, Gavin Jones. The police said that they had disappeared during an adventure tour of Cape York Peninsula.

This was the second day of the search and the police were now very worried about the safety of the three missing people.

The police said that the search had covered a wide area, but the rain forest was thick and their work was made harder by the recent rain. Later on Chief Inspector (警官) Roger Fleet said, “The travellers had a radio with them. If they had been in trouble, they would have called us.”

The three travellers left Cooktown very early on Saturday morning in a Toyota car. They took a small dirt road that runs down to the Daintree River, a dangerous river full of crocodiles (鳄鱼). Chief Inspector Roger Fleet said the tourists wouldn't have got into trouble if they had stayed on the main road.

A photo of Vicky and Tom was found by a policeman under the “Be Careful about crocodiles” sign near the river. Why was the photo left behind? This is just one of the unanswered questions. Other questions are: Why was the photo left behind? Why was the Toyota parked and locked at the edge of the rain forest? The police said that the travellers had left a map of the area behind. Why? Why had someone drawn a cross on the point where the car is? Is this a sign? What does it mean? If anyone can give information or has seen these three young people, contact the local police in Cooktown.

I heard the bees long before I saw them. It was a very hot afternoon, and we decided to cool off in the river near my home. As we climbed down a small rocky hill toward the water, my boyfriend John suddenly started to shout then jumped into the water below. Peter and Mary quickly followed but I was too far away to jump. I was trapped.
I heard a low hum(嗡嗡声),which was growing louder. From a distance, the group of bees looked almost like a cloud of smoke. As it got closer, I realized it was actually thousands of bees flying towards me. All I could do was cover my face with hands. Crazily, I thought that if I sat very still, the bees would think I was just another rock. After a few minutes, I knew my plan hadn't worked. The bees were attacking me. I could hear my friends shouting at me to get down to the pool fast. But it wasn't so easy. I was in great pain and the only way I could get away was to use my hands to climb down the rocks. However, I was afraid to do that at first because my face would be unprotected. The noise the bees made was so loud and frightening, but I had no choice.
I rushed down the rocks and jumped into the pool, but I don't remember doing it. I was just so happy to be free from the pain. I was safe, and the water felt wonderful. But we still weren't out of danger. Every time we tried to climb out of the pool, the bees flew back over our heads. We spent the next three hours in the water, putting our heads under the water from time to time to avoid the bees until they finally lost interest.

Wonder what it is like to be a chef(厨师)? This weekend you will have your chance to find out. Two local chefs, Monica Sallier and Andrew Gleason, will hold an "open kitchen" at their restaurants this Saturday.

Monica's restaurant, The Blue Hen, is small but comfortable. Wooden tables and chairs cover the dining area, and sweet music is always on. "I like to laugh and always tell jokes while I cook," Monica said. "Cooking brings people together. The cooks who work with me have become my best friends."

At Monica's "open kitchen", she plans to teach her guests how to prepare countrystyle fried chicken. For it, she will use her family's secret spice(香料). She learned how to make it from her father. Monica seldom uses a measuring cup(量杯)when cooking. By doing so, she hopes to offer her guests a special dining experience. "If you come to my restaurant, you'll never get the same dish twice, "she said.

Also opening his kitchen this Saturday in Shreveport is Andrew Gleason. He is the head chef at Quarter Bistro. "I am not the most talkative chef in the business," Andrew said. "Mostly because I prefer to give my full attention to the food. Every ingredient(食材)must be carefully measured. "

Andrew's food also makes the dining experience special. He makes every dish look like a piece of art. At his "open kitchen", Andrew plans to teach his visitors how to prepare blackened catfish, a dish of his that has won much praise throughout the city.

When I was a young teacher, my first teaching job was in a village in the far north of Canada. There were no roads. You had to take a 1  to fly into the village. I was quite 2 about this new job. I couldn't sleep well. But I packed( 打包) my bags and headed north for my adventure.

In autumn, when I 3 there, the weather was fine. The 4 shone and the days were clear. But all of that was soon to change. In late October, the season changed suddenly. One morning, I awoke and it was winter. In winter, it is very 5 in Canada's north. It snows a lot, too. One winter day, it started to snow really, really6 . The wind blew. And the snow did not stop. It snowed for a whole day. It snowed all night, too.

On the morning of the third day, the snow finally stopped coming down. I7 and looked out of my window. The students looked out of their windows too. They could not see their school."Our school has disappeared( 消失)." they cried. All they could see was a world8 white snow everywhere. The snow covered the school completely. It was more than 8 metres high. It was amazing! But not everyone was surprised. "It happens every year," said the school principal(校长),"This is Canada. This is how we get to school in the far north."

Of course, there was no school that day. The people in the village came and helped the guard dig out the snow. It9 three days to uncover the school! The kids enjoyed their days off. But they were glad to get back to10 finally.
