In Britain you're allowed to drive a car when you're seventeen. You have to get a special two-year driving license before you start. When you're learning, someone with a full license always has to be in the car with you. You don't have to go to a driving school-a friend can teach you. The person with you isn't allowed to take money for the lessons unless he's got a teacher's license. 

   Before you're allowed to have a full license, you have to take a driving test. You can take a test in your own car, but it has to be fit for the road. In the test, you have to drive round for half an hour and then answer a few questions. If you don't pass the test, you're allowed to take it again a few weeks later if you want to. In 1970, a woman passed her fortieth test after 212 driving lessons! When you've passed your test, you don't have to take it again, and you're allowed to go on driving if you like, if you're healthy. Britain's oldest driver was a man who drove in 1974 at the age of 100. 

   Before 1904, everyone was allowed to drive, even children. Then from 1904 car drivers had to have a license.  But they didn't have to take a test until 1935. In the early days of car driving, before 1978, cars weren't allowed to go faster than four miles an hour, and someone had to lead the car with a red flag.

    One day, my wife and I went shopping. We took the car as we had a lot of things to buy, because my brother and his family were going to spend the weekend with us. We stopped the car in front of the shop. An hour later we came back to the car with a lot of things. Then the trouble(麻烦) started. We could not open the door.

    "Oh, dear," said my wife, "what are we going to do?"

    "Let's ask that policeman," I said.

    The policeman was very kind and glad to help us. Soon he got the door open. Just at that moment, an angry man came up and shouted. "What are you doing with my car?" We looked at the number of the car, and our faces turned very red.

    Healthy eating is important for as. What and how should we eat to be healthy?

    First, we must have enough food, never too much or too little. The food must be clean and we should cook it properly.

    Second, it's very important for us to keep a balanced diet. Different kinds of foods are necessary, such as rice, bread, meat, fish, eggs, milk, fruit and vegetables. Rice and bread give us energy. Meat, fish, eggs and milk help our bones grow. Fruit and vegetables make us healthy.

    Third, we should eat regularly. It's said that half of the students don't have a regular breakfast or don't eat anything in the morning. It is bad for their health. In fact, a good breakfast keeps us strong.

    In short, we should not only eat enough food and healthy food but also eat regularly.

    A month ago the Brown family, who lived in Lyndhurst, had a special experience. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} She was making coffee while her husband, Frank, was watching a comedy program on television. Frank went upstairs to look after the baby but when he climbed the stairs(楼梯) , there was a loud sound and the house seemed to shake. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} A big tree from their garden fell through the window of Ruth's room！Luckily it missed the baby by just half a meter!
