We are lucky to live in a rich country where we have many things. However, most of us usually {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (waste) some things.

    Electricity is one thing that we waste most. Lights, TVs, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (radio) and other things are often kept on even when no one is using them. We should turn them off {#blank#}3{#/blank#} we do not need them. It takes  {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (little) than a second to do it. Anyhow, not wasting electricity saves money, because we do not have to pay for the electricity we do not use. The {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (two) thing that we often waste is water. Fresh water is precious, so it shouldn't be wasted. It is only a simple matter of turning {#blank#}6{#/blank#}a tap. I am sure everybody can do this {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (easy) if he wants to. Another big waste is food. My mother used to cook so much food that much of it was thrown away. I told her we had wasted so much {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (food). She thought I was right and now cooks mainly what we can eat.

    It is not right to be wasteful. I find there is a simple way of not wasting things. That is {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (use) only what we need. Do not touch what we do not need. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}this way, we can stop being wasteful.

Have you ever wondered what animals are thinking when you see them? Do you feel happy when you see a cute dog, but do they feel the same way? It's hard to tell what animals are thinking because they have no ability to speak like us.

Humans have many different feelings, but it's difficult to understand what animals are feeling. We might think we know our pets the best because we spend a lot of time with them. Some people have dogs as pets because they are friendly to us, even love us. But love could just be a human feeling. Professor Kim Bard did an experiment to test pets' feelings. It turns out that some dogs show the same feeling when their owner pretends (假装) to cry, but not with strangers. However, it's harder for cats to work out.

Other animals, like giraffes and whales, also experience great sadness when someone in their group dies. Nowadays, people are starting to consider their well-being more. In the UK, new legislation (立法) means all animals will be considered in law as sentient living things, even tiny insects. Research shows they can feel a degree of feelings, such as being happy, sad, angry, or frightened.

Dr Barbara J King says, "If we understand how deeply animals can feel feelings, do we really need zoos around the world? This is a question." Understanding animal feelings is important because it helps us treat them in a proper way.

As we know, there are many kinds of clubs in the American middle schools, such as the music club, the sports club, the chess club, the swimming club. But do you know the homework club?

The homework club is a popular(流行的)club in many American middle schools. More and more students spend their afternoons in the homework clubs. The American middle school students need a quiet place to study. But games, computers and TVs are all around kids at home. So the homework club is just for them to do their homework. The club is very quiet and it's good for students to study. Some teachers are there, too. They can answer students' questions and help with their homework. If students finish their homework on time, they will get a snack(零食). It's always children's favourite food. Then they can go home and play games or watch TV happily.

Driving an electric car is good for the environment(环境). But is that true?

A University recently studied emissions (排放物) from different cars. The   scientists found that sometimes electric cars were worse for the environment than other cars. Surprising Well, please pay attention to the word " sometimes". Electric cars should be clean. The problem lies in th power(动力). If the power comes from the wind or the sun, electric cars will be good far the environment But if the power is from coal(煤炭), it will bring a co ntrary situation. According to the study, emission from these electric cars kill about 3,000 people a year. Compared with it, emissions from other cars makes about 880 people's death a year.

In France, more than half of the power comes from nuclear(原子核的) stations. Electric cars there should be as clean as they can be. But in many other countries, coal is still the main source(来源) of electricity. India, for example, needs coal for 61% of its power. Only 2% of its electricity comes from nuclear sources. In countries like India, electric cars are not clean at all!

All in all, sellers are not lying(说谎) when they say electric cars are clean, but they are right only when the power is also clean.
