Mark and his brother Jason both were looking at the shining new computer enviously. Jason was determined not to go against their father's wishes but Mark was more adventurous than his brother. He loves experimenting and his aim was to become a scientist like his father.

“Dad will be really mad if he finds out you've been playing with his new computer” Jason said, “He told us not  to touch it.”

“He won't find out,” Mark said, “I'll just have a quick look and shut it down.”

Mark had been scolded before for touching his father's equipment. But his curiosity was difficult to control and this new computer really puzzled him.

It was a strange-looking machine — one his dad had brought home from the laboratory where he worked. “It's an experimental model,” his father had explained, so don't touch it under any circumstances.” But his father's warning only served to make Mark more curious. Without any further thought, Mark turned on the power switch. The computer burst into life and seconds later, the screen turned into colours, shifting and changing, and then two big white words appeared in the centre of the screen: “SPACE TRANSPORTER.”

“Yes!” Mark cried excitedly, “It's a computer game. I knew it! Dad's only been pretending to work. He's really been playing games instead!” A new message appeared on the screen:

“ENTER NAMES

VOYAGE 1

VOYAGE 2

Mark's finger flew across the keyboard as he typed in both of their names.

“INPUT ACCEPTED.

START TRANSPORT PROGRAM.

AUTO-RETRIEVE INITIATED( 自动回收程序已启动).”

The screen turn even brighter and a noise suddenly rose in volume.

“I think we'd better shut it off, Mark,” Jason yelled out in terror, reaching for the power switch. A beam(光束) of dazzling white light burst out of the computer screen, wrapping the boys in its glow(光芒),until they themselves seemed to be glowing. Then it died down just as suddenly as it had burst into life. And the boys were no longer there. On the screen, the letters changed:

“TRANSPORT SUCCESSFUL.

DESTINATION:  MARS.

RETRIEVE DATE:  2025

Animal training refers to teaching animals specific responses to specific conditions or stimuli (刺激). Training may be for the purpose of companionship, detection, protection, entertainment or all of the above.

An animal trainer may use various forms of reinforcement (强化) or punishment to condition an animal's responses. There are many ways to train animals and as a general rule no legal requirements or certifications (证书) are required.

Chickens

Training chickens has become a way for trainers of other animals (primarily dogs) to perfect their training technique.  Bob Bailey, former director of Animal Behavior Enterprises and the IQ Zoo, teaches in chicken training courses where trainers teach chickens to tell different shapes, to navigate an obstacle course and to chain behaviors together.

Fish

Fish can also be trained. For example, a goldfish may swim toward its owner and follow him as he walks through the room, but will not follow anyone else. The fish may swim up and down, signaling the owner to turn on its aquarium (鱼缸) light when it is off, and it will skim the surface until its owner feeds it. Pet goldfish have also been taught to perform more complicated tasks, such as doing the limbo (a kind of dance) and pushing a miniature soccer ball into a net.

Pigs

Among all animals, they are the third cleverest — monkeys, dolphins and pigs. Scientists think the training of pigs is easier than the training of dogs and cats. Pigs have a very good sense of smell. They can find things nearby or faraway. They can also help the police to find out drugs at an airport or at a train station.

With the wide, application of the Internet, Uber, a new approach to your destination instead of taking an ordinary taxi, has become more popular recently. However, benefits won't come without its fair share of drawbacks. The ride-sharing experience is about to get awkward.

Uber drivers are a part of the so-called sharing economy: They use their own vehicles, receive customer reviews via the app's five-star rating system and make their own hours and choices. Unlike other services, Uber claimed that drivers all over the country could dearly alert customers that tipping is not included. Those drivers that expect to be tipped can make their wishes known. But the company is holding to its official no-tip-required line. “Once you arrive at your destination, your fare is automatically charged to your credit card on file-there's no need to tip.” Although drivers value the freedom to push a button rather than punch a clock like ordinary taxi drivers, lack of a clear policy leaves Uber drivers m a vulnerable (脆弱的) and awkward position: If they ask a customer for a tip or put up a sign, that customer could give the driver a low star-rating, and the driver could finally be removed from the app.

But has the company done a good job working with customers? Some observers say that this new grey area for tipping will create awkwardness about whether they should tip or not. Providing an option to tip on an app sends a clear message to customers to reach into their pockets. According to Guinn's 2015 survey of roughly 500 people, merely 30% people would be more likely to leave a tip if they were presented with a “no tip” button.

If the service is twice as expensive during a rain storm or public transport delay, the customer has the right not to tip, However, if the driver is extra helpful or avoids traffic to reach your destination in a more timely manner, you could give an extra tip, says Uber, who will leave tipping options in the hands of the consumer rather than the app.

Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.

Shot in more than 40 locations in L.A., the musical La La Land is "a love letter to the city". To coincide with UK release, we asked a local writer to pick some of the film's amazing settings.

    Judge Harry Pregerson Interchange

La La Land's opening scene is a six-minute dance that plays out in L.A.'s bad traffic. It is also where the film's leading roles, struggling actress Mia and jazz pianist Sebastian, first encounter each other—in a road anger incident. The scene is said to have been filmed over two hot days in south L.A.

    Smokehouse Restaurant, Burbank

This is the setting for the scene in which Mia discovers Sebastian's talent for the piano. The fictional Lipton's restaurant—where jazz purist Sebastian was reluctant to play Christmas music—is in reality a place long frequented by actors, producers and other show business types. It has been on this spot, across the street from the Warner Bros studio, since 1949. In the film, the outer wall of Lipton's is the You are the Star mural (壁画), which features Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin and others, which is on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Wicox Avenue in Hollywood in reality.

    Warner Bros Studios, Burbank

Mia works at the studio's coffee shop, where Sebastian comes to meet her. As they wander the studio's lot, Mia points out "the window that Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman looked out in Casablanca." It's one of the film's numerous nods to movie history. Warner Brons is still a working studio, with 35 sound stages, 14 exterior sets and visitor tours.

    Cathy's Corner, Mount Hollywood Drive

This section of the road that winds through Griffth Park is the setting of their dance play. It overlooks the San Fernando Valley and features on the film poster. Cathy's Corner is near famed Mulholland Drive, but prepare for disappointment if you're expecting a park bench and street lamps, which only exist in the movie.

Barcelona is a city of contradictions: old and new combined, beautiful and industrial, traditional and modern. Bordered by France to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the east, Barcelona is one of the most “European” of Spanish cities. Stroll Las Rambles, one of the city's most famous and busy avenue. Students taking a gap year in Barcelona will find it to be a very cosmopolitan(世界性的) city that combines the latest trends with the most typical Spanish traditions. Barcelona offers museums, cinemas, restaurants, the beach, the mountains, and people from all over the world.

Although local people speak both Spanish and Catalan, the mixture of local residents and international visitors makes it an easy city to understand and makes yourself understood. Barcelona exposes students to several cultures, languages, and world views; but then again, what else could be expected from the complex city of Barcelona?
