Famous Places around the World
South Africa South Africa has a comfortable climate (气候), with lovely warm sunny days for most of the year. The summer is from November to February, and the weather is really hot at this time. In August, it's winter and the weather is usually warm, except at night. |
Greece The best time to visit Greece is April to June. If you just want to sit on a beach and see the sunshine every day, then August is the perfect month. But, be careful! Temperatures are really high. In the southeast of Greece, it might be 30-35℃. |
Australia It's winter in Australia in July and August. The hottest months are from November to March. The best time to go is September or October. It's warm enough to swim in the sea. It's cool enough to tour around, and it's not too rainy. Go there in August if you like it colder. |
Hobbies are ways of self-discovery, and hobbies help build self-respect. Hobbies are educational tools as well. By working on hobbies, children learn to set goals, make decisions, and solve all sorts of problems. If all these sound good, you may would like to help your child develop a hobby, and try these suggestions. |
Set a good example. Scott Harris, a hobby shop buyer and hobby workshop leader in Gastonia, North Carolina, finds that children with hobbies tend (倾向于) to have parents with hobbies. |
Be prepared to sacrifice (牺牲) space. Your child will need work space for his or her hobby projects. Choose a special room, a corner of the basement (地下室), part of the garage, or a similar area. No matter where you set up the space, your child should be able to walk away from the hobby and come back to it later. |
Provide some guidance. Nothing will kill a child's love for a hobby quicker than lots of frustration (挫折) during the learning stage. Help your child get off to a good start by showing him or her clearly how to closely follow a set of directions. |
Limit television watching. It's impossible to work on a hobby and watch TV (or play video games) at the same time. For want of spare time, a hobby may never be developed. But find a hobby, a talent may be born, and life may be enriched (充实) by it, too. |

Dear Mike and Wendy, I have been bullied by the boy who sits behind me. He spilled (洒) ink on my books and my hands. He messed up a picture of my favourite sports star. I feel quite terrible. What should I do? Can you give me some good advice? Anna |
Dear Anna, It seems this boy is really rude. I'm sorry that he has been so mean to you. Nobody likes to be bullied or pushed around. First, it' ll be a good idea to talk to this bully directly and tell him to stop being so mean to you. Bullies always think that their victims(受害者) will be too scared to talk back and stand up for themselves. If you do this, it will probably surprise him and make him less likely to bully you in the future. Second, you can also ask a friend to stand with you when you face this bully. It's good to have a friend on your side if you' re feeling nervous or scared. Finally, you should go to your teacher for help. He or she can punish this bully. Mike |
Dear Anna, In fact, I have also had a similar experience. I'm a girl who comes from a small village. Once there was a beautiful and rich girl who was mean to me. She was jealous of my grades, so she told other girls not to talk with me. Asking for help and being strong enough to fight back can help you. It was difficult, but I fought back. I talked with her and asked her why she hated me. If I did something wrong, I could apologize. But it was nothing like that. I asked our monitor for help. The monitor talked with the other girls. They gradually came to understand my personality and background. I also tried to help them with Maths. Now,I don' feel alienated (疏远的) from them. Wendy |
