Once there was a shepherd boy who had to look after a group of sheep.One   day, he felt 1 and decided to play a trick on the villagers. He shouted,"Help! Wolf! Wolf!"

The villagers 2 his cries and rushed out of the village to help the shepherd boy. When they reached him, they asked,"Where is the wolf?"The shepherd boy laughed 3 , "Ha, ha, I fooled all of you. I was only playing a trick on you."

A few days later, the shepherd boy played this trick 4 .

Again he cried,"Help! Help! Wolf! Wolf!"Again, the villagers rushed up the hill to help him     and again they found that boy had tricked them. They were very 5 with him for being so naughty.

Then, some time later, a wolf went into the field. The wolf attacked one sheep, and then another and another. The shepherd boy ran towards the village 6 ,"Help! Help! Wolf! Help!  Somebody!"

The villagers heard his cries but they laughed 7 they thought it was another trick. The boy   ran to the nearest village r and said,"A wolf is attacking the sheep. I lied before, but this time it is 8 !"

Finally, the villagers went to look. It was true. They could see the wolf 9 and many dead sheep lying on the grass.

From the story we know people may not believe someone who often tells 10 , even when he tells the truth.

It was Saturday that day. Luke was wearing his basketball clothes, waiting for his chance to play but until last week, nobody asked him to play. Although the 18-year-old student does well in playing basketball, his coach wouldn't like to bring Luke into play. This is because it isn't easy for Luke to see things even when he wears glasses. He has to try his best to aim at the basketball hoop^① by focusing on the right corner of his glasses. His mother said that he was born with cerebral palsy^②. 

On the high school's Senior Night last week, Luke's coach finally called him to play during the final minute of the game. With the teammates already coming to give him a warm welcome, Luke got into position as the crowd cheered him up. 

"I want to get him in. It was Senior Night, the most important moment for every player in the team." the head coach told the reporters, "If there was a chance for him, I would want to take advantage of it."

Once the game was back in play, one of Luke's teammates passed him the ball. Though he had been practising shooting hoops since he was in the third grade, this was the first time he had ever taken a shot on his high school basketball team. He took a deep breath to release the nervous feeling. 

As the watchers waited, Luke took the shot and dropped the ball. It fell through the net, hardly touching the hoop. He made it! In fact, his score helped the team win the game. All his teammates came to hug him, showing great admiration^③ and respect. 

"I heard the watchers calling my name," Luke told the news reporters. "They were jumping and shouting. I still can't believe I was awarded the title of MVP (Most Valuable Player) of this game."

My son, Kevin, loved wrestling (摔跤运动) as he was growing up. When he entered high school, he showed a lot of athletic ability. Even as a freshman wrestler, we could see the hope of his future, and he went on to improve each year. As a senior, he'd become the leader of a team that set an unbelievable record. Just as we expected, he went into the state tournament (锦标赛). 

Then he won four matches and ranked number one. Here we were, in the finals of the state tournament, ready to win our championship—we still didn't have a state championship when his high school career was over. 

Unluckily, his last match didn't go well! I felt terrible, and I was unwilling to accept what had just happened and unable to believe it. I painfully watched Kevin as he shook hands with his opponent (对手) and stood calmly as the judge raised his opponent's hand in victory. Then he quietly walked out of the gym. 

A few weeks later, I received a letter from Kevin's school. In the letter, the principal praised Kevin's devotion to his team, his respect to his opponents and his spirit of competition. After I read this, I cried. 

For years, I had watched every single match where Kevin had wrestled in high school, but I hadn't noticed all the outstanding qualities that his principal (校长) mentioned. I always focused on the wins. And when he didn't get that final win, I was especially hurt and disappointed. I'd failed to realize that Kevin was working hard to achieve victories, but always performing with character no matter whether he won or lost. 

At that moment, my son became my mentor (导师). He taught me that winners in life appreciate the pursuit more than the victory itself. 

Matt is thirteen years old. He is a student in a middle1 . He isn't 2 and always can't find his things.

Now he is ready(准备) to do 3 homework(家庭作业).

"We will have 4 English class next day. Now I want to do the English homework first."he says.
