Lisa is serious about the chores in her house. She gives her children things that they 1 . do according to their age. She started by asking John, the2 of her two sons, to help with the dishes. It is now an easy cho re3 . the 15-year-old. His13-year-old brother, Dave, now4 John, too. They take turns (轮流) washing the5 each week. The boys also clean their study tables, make their beds and6 food from the market on Sunday mornings. Besides(除了) these, the boys also know how to cook easy meals 7 their parents are not at home.

The family of 8 live in a big house but they do all the housework themselves.

I'm from a small town. It lies in(位于) the east of Zhejiang Province near the East Sea. You can't see it on the map of China because it is too small. There are not many tall buildings in the town. The tallest building is the primary school. 

The population of the town is fifty thousand. The East Sea is to the east of the town. To the south is the flat land. Some low hills are near the town. And a river runs through the town. 

The weather here is comfortable. It's not too cold in winter or too hot in summer. There is a big garden in the town. We can hear birds singing everywhere in the garden. And there are many kinds of fishes in the town. The fishermen(渔民) in my home town are all living a happy life. 

I love my home town and I hope it will become better and better!

 Nick can't find his watch. It is blue. The watch is from his uncle Tom.

 Nick makes a telephone call to his father. He says," Dad, I can't find my watch. Do you know where it is?" Mr. Smith says," No, I don't. Is it on your desk?"" No, it's not on the desk."

 Nick calls his mother at 879-9904. He asks," Mom, do you know where my watch is?" Mrs. Smith says," Oh, I think it's in your room." But Nick's room isn't tidy. He doesn't want to look for it everywhere. Nick puts down the telephone and sits on the sofa. And just when he wants to call his uncle at 879-0994, his brother Rick says," Nick, I …"

Nick says," Rick, I am busy now."

" Yeah? Busy looking for your watch? It's on my wrist (手腕) ," says Rick.

A young man went to an expert on gems(宝石)and wanted to learn from him. The expert shook his head He worried that young men wouldn't have the patience to learn. In his opinion, they were always in a hurry. 

The young man asked the expert many times to let him have a try. Finally the expert said, "Be here tomorrow. "

The next morning, the expert put a jade(翡翠)stone in the man's hand and told him to hold it. The expert then went about his work, cutting, weighing and setting gems. The man sat and waited excitedly. The following morning the expert again placed the jade stone in the man's hand and told him to hold it. On the third, fourth, and fifth day the expert repeated the action. 

On the sixth day the young man still had to hold the jade stone, but he could no longer stand the silence. "Sir, "he asked, "when am I going to learn something?"

"You will learn. "the expert replied. 

Several more days went by. The man became more and more impatient. However, when the expert placed a stone in his hand one morning, the young man shouted without looking at it, "This is not the same jade stone!" "You have begun to learn, "the expert said with a smile. 

X-rays were discovered in 1895 by a German professor, Wilhelm Roentgen. People all over the world were amazed by his invention, the X-ray machine. This invention was so important that Roentgen won the first Nobel Prize for Physics in 1901.

The telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell, a doctor and speech teacher. The first phone call was made by Bell in 

1876. He got acid (酸) on his pants by accident and wanted his partner, Thomas Watson, to help him. The first words spoken on the telephone were "Mr. Watson, come here! I need you!"

Television was invented in 1926 by John Logie Baird, a Scottish inventor. Baird's television certainly didn't look like a television today! Electronic televisions like the ones we have today were invented by Vladimir Zworykin in the 1920s in the United States.

The first computer was built in 1946 by two American engineers, J. Presper Eckert and John W. Mauchly. It was developed for the army, and it was so large that it took up a whole room! Later, in 1971, the "microchip" was invented, and small home computers were first produced for personal use. Today computers are used in almost everything we do and are found almost everywhere we go.
