    I often imagine what my life will be like in my dream high school.

    Science and technology have developed more rapidly in the past 100 years than in any period of human history.

    One of its results is an excessive growth of information. The era of information has already come, and our life has changed in a subtle way. The development and popularization of the Internet, along with cell phones and all kinds of electronic devices have influenced our habits a lot.

    Some people state that with the explosion of information, it is much easier and more convenient for us to find out anything we would like to know, which can help us to develop our creativity.

    However, many people argue that information explosion is not the equivalent of knowledge explosion. Moreover, with the continuously growing number of information, the world becomes a confusion to us with both useful news and unwanted messages, which is far from helping stimulating our creativity.

My family moved from Taiwan to a small town in central Georgia, where my dad got a visa for his family and a job. I had just learned English, and from what little I could gather from my friends, Santa Claus would come down one's chimney(烟囱) and put toys in one's stocking on Christmas Eve! What a great country, I thought. After I looked up "stocking" in my Chinese-English dictionary, I knew what I had to do and always expected that day. 

Finally, the big day came. On that wonderful night, after everyone went to bed, I sneaked out of bed,  took my longest, cleanest knee sock and attached it to a nail(钉子) already on the mantel(壁炉). Obviously the previous owners of this house were no strangers to this Santa character. Staring at the sock and imagining the delicately(精致地)-packed gift in it, I couldn't help giggling(咯咯笑). For the first time, I found it hard to fall asleep. 

And for the first time, I woke up before everyone else in the early morning. Then I headed straight to the fireplace and was even ready for what to say after seeing the gift. However, what happened next was the least thing I wanted to mention. On the nail was the empty and lonely sock. I was hit with the reality of the empty sock and the biggest lie ever told. I tried my best to hold back my tears but failed. Bursting into tears, I quickly took down the sock and stuffed it in the back of a drawer.

Every December since then, the topic of Christmas memories would unavoidably come up, and I would amuse my friends with my poor-little-me story. I had to make it as funny as possible, or else I would cry once again. I didn't know whether any of my audience ever noticed the sparkling tears hidden in my eyes. 

How could I know that Santa was just late？Nine years ago, on Christmas Eve, I heard a knock on the door when I was watching TV. Unwillingly, I dragged my feet(拖着脚步) and opened the door.

Outside the door stood an old man with a white beard and a red cap, holding a well-packed box.

Through tear-blurred (泪水模糊的) eyes, I recognized the handwriting on the card.

"No!" screamed Asha as she saw a huge pimple (粉刺) on her nose. She didn't have time to cover the pimple as she was running late to school. She ate her breakfast fast, grabbed her bag and caught her school bus just in time. As soon as she got on the bus, kids started laughing. Nobody was willing to let her sit beside them. Even Anita, her best friend, acted a bit differently, which made her more upset.

Asha was lost in thought. A new thought popped in her mind every second. Once she thought "Great! I have to worry about my pimple as if homework and exams were not enough." The next minute another thought popped in her mind. "I am tired of using this face wash. I still wonder how I agreed to use that thing!" Then suddenly, Mr. Shetty, the bus driver, said, "Asha, do you want to miss the class?" Asha was so lost in her thought that she did not even notice that everybody had got off the bus except her.

She did not want to step into the school campus. She thought, "What will my teachers think? What will my friends think?" After some time, she gathered courage and entered her class, expecting that she would be laughed at. While entering the class, she heard students commenting on her pimple. A child laughed, "Look, someone's cherry is on her nose! Get it for me." She heard some boys murmuring, "She would definitely be chosen as the joker in the dance."

It was a very hard day at school for her. As soon as she got home, she hugged her mother tightly, with tears welling up in her eyes.

Asha told her mother what she had experienced in the day.

Asha opened the door and in came her friend Anita with a bunch of flowers.

As I stood in line waiting to pay for the things I bought at my favorite supermarket, I studied the customer in front of me who was reading the magazines to our left. She was young, maybe in her early twenties, but she looked tired-as if life had beaten her down too many times.

The things in her cart included the cheapest cuts of meat, rice, and potatoes. Powdered milk, day-old bread,bargain soap, and inexpensive shampoo completed the things she bought-well, almost. There were also lots of instant noodles and a pretty dress that was 50 percent off.

She continued to look at the magazines as we waited, and more people lined up behind us. She finally took one out and turned it over several times,trying to find a price before finally turning to me.

"I'm sorry to trouble you,"she said."But can you tell me how much this is? I left my glasses at home. ""Of course," I said with a laugh.

When I finally found the small print and told her, she sighed quietly and put it back."They've become so expensive, haven't they?"I said in a low voice.

"Next!"The cashier called before she could answer, and she moved forward to begin her tun. When the store employee finally told her the cost, the woman's face paled(变苍白).She opened an old purse and began counting small bills and change. It was clear that she didn't have enough,and she examined her things to see what she could do without.

One by one, she took things out, but she still came up short. She continued taking things out while the cashier waited patiently. The man right behind me complained loudly enough for all to hear, and the young woman's face reddened with awkwardness. I wanted to pay for her things outright,but I knew that would embarrass(使尴尬) her even more.

"Take your time,"I added gently as she tried to decide what other things she could return."I'm in no hurry.
