黑龙江省齐齐哈尔市2024届高三下学期二模英语试题

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

One year ago, when we were in the fifth grade, a new classmate named Jack joined us. He was often late for class and had a strange smell on him, which made the girls not want to be "neighbours" with him, let alone sit next to him. It is said that once, a naughty boy curiously opened his backpack and many crushed soda cans and empty drink bottles that we usually throw into the trash fell out. Therefore, the boys in our class mocked (嘲笑) him as the "trash king".

Later, during a class meeting, our teacher, Ms. Zhang, told us about his story of using garbage to make inventions. It turns out that Jack is not an ordinary elementary school student, but a "garbage-inspired inventor" who has won the city invention award. According to Ms. Zhang, most of his inventions were picked up from garbage dumps (堆). During that class meeting, Jack showed us his invention of a"domestic wastewater separation system".

Afterwards, some of us became deeply interested in these small inventions and started to admire Jack's way of "picking up trash". We even joined him in picking up trash on weekends and during holidays. From then on, we no longer called him the "trash king". Instead, we formed a group of five boys and actively searched for usable materials in various garbage dumps around the city. Under Jack's guidance, we learned that there are many uses for seemingly useless trash. Once, we stayed at school to process the collected materials. Jack mentioned that he was facing a problem with his latest invention—a small cart for buying vegetables that needed to be lightweight. All other materials were solved except for the wheels. How could we find a suitable material for the wheels? We racked our brains (绞尽脑汁) and came up with different ideas, such as using soda cans or taking off the wheels from suitcases. However, Jack reminded us that our group should focus on making inventions from waste rather than causing damage to create them. We were all deep in thought.

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

“If mum finds out that I'm going to the beach, I'll be in big trouble.” I said to myself softly in a low voice.

I went downstairs slowly and tried to walk casually into the kitchen. As I was walking towards the back door, mum asked without looking up from her “dish-washing”, “Where are you going?” I answered back without hesitation,“ I am going to the garden to play.” After I got out of the kitchen, I breathed a sign of relief. My plan had worked out fine so far. I climbed the fence and jumped onto the muddy field next to my house and started running towards the bus stop at top speed,

After half an hour I was at the beach scanning the crowd for my friends, Jimmy and Bobby. Two young men were racing in the canoes (独木舟). After a while, I saw them near a coconut tree. I ran towards them and got into my swimming trunk (游泳裤). For about an hour, we played volleyball happily.

Suddenly, Bobby hit the ball too hard and the ball fell into the sea. Just as Bobby was going to pick up the ball, the tide came in and carried the ball further and further away from the shore. I wanted to show off my swimming skills so I declared to help get the ball for them.

I dived into the water and started swimming at a steady pace. After swimming for about ten minutes, I became tired but when I saw that the ball was only a few feet away from me, I put in an extra burst of speed. However, just as I was going to get the ball, a very strong current swept the ball further away from me. At that moment, a string of weed (海草)tangled (缠绕) up with my feet and I could not swim properly.

I struggled to keep afloat but it was no use. “ If I had listened to my parents, this would never have happened,” I thought silently.

    Paragraph 1

Finally, after struggling for a minute or two, I still got pulled underwater.

    Paragraph 2

When I woke up, I was in an empty room lying on a bed.

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

After study for hours, I went outside and up to the roof nearby for a break and watched people swimming in the sea. It was a sunny day—a blue, cloudless sky over a calm sea. But then, as I looked in the distance. I discovered a series of three or four big waves heading towards the shore. I'd seen these mini-tsunamis (小型海啸)many times before. They were heading at speed in the direction of the swimming area. Most people knew to look out for them, but from the screams that started coming from the beach, I could tell someone was in trouble.

Without thinking, I ran down into the street, holding my bodyboard (冲浪板)on the way and shouted at a stranger to call the coastguard(海岸警卫). My neighbor Tom had heard the screaming as well and was also outside with his bodyboard, so together we rushed to the steps that led down to the sea.

Once we got closer, we discovered the waves had pulled a boy and a girl into the open sea. I knew that the nearest boat would take at least 30 minutes to reach us. I wasn't used to this sort of emergency—I'd never been trained as a lifeguard—but I didn't think twice about trying to save them.

I suppose in a way I wanted to impress everyone; at 19, a deal like that can seem like a good opportunity to show off.

Tom and I dived into the water and it took us 10 minutes to get to them. When we finally reached them, they were almost lifeless with only their heads coming in and out of the water. We could tell they were still alive from their small breaths but it was clear they wouldn't have been able to stay there much longer. I held the boy and pulled him over my board. Tom then moved the girl onto his board.

Paragraph 1:

We discussed pushing them back to the shore, but we were too far out.

Paragraph 2:

That night, word came from the hospital that the two kids were in good condition.

Michael and Greg were brothers and they lived in a family with a tight budget. They both missed the field trip last year because they could not cover the extra fee. This year, Michael's class would arrange a field trip to the city museum and he really wanted to go. So he was trying to earn some pocket money.

On this cold autumn morning, Michael gathered the last of the leaves into a small pile. There weren't even enough to jump in. "Mom and Dad are never going to pay me for gathering this little bit of leaves. ""What are you talking about?" Greg asked, walking up behind him. "I'm trying to do some housework so I can make enough money to cover my field trip to the city museum, but there's nothing to do around here. "Michael sighed and looked around.

"You could offer to wash Mom and Dad's cars," Greg said.

Michael's face lit up. "That's a great idea."

"I bet some of the neighbors would pay you to wash theirs, too. It's getting colder and no one wants to wash the cars themselves. "Greg looked his brother in the eye.

Michael nodded. The air was cold. He shivered(打寒颤)at the thought of washing cars and getting wet in this cold weather. "Maybe this isn't a good idea."

Greg placed his hand on Michael's shoulder. "I have some golf gloves that are designed for wet, cold weather. I'll loan you a pair, and I'll even help you wash the cars." "Really? You'd help me and let me keep the money?" "Sure. Golf season is over. I won't need the extra cash for a while. "Greg disappeared inside the house.

Michael asked his parents if he could wash their cars for a small fee. When they agreed, he asked some neighbors, too. Three more agreed. Michael got a bucket, some sponges(海绵), towels and soap. Greg came back outside with the gloves. "Here you go. They'll keep your hands warm and dry. ""Thanks. "Michael still couldn't believe his brother was helping him earn the money like this. He had to think of a way to repay him.

My family moved from Toowoomba, Canada to London in 1950. My mother was in great pain from the 1950s epidemic of polio(小儿麻痹症). She wished to visit specialists in London. The day before we boarded the ship, Father bade a tender farewell to his five-year-old "friend" at the dock(码头), an Australian cattle dog, Spider, who was loved by us all. Father's friend Sandy was to be his guardian while we were overseas.

Six weeks later, a letter arrived from Sandy, giving my father the news that Spider had run away just two weeks after we had sailed. I will always remember my father's face crumbling and his eyes glistening as he read the letter. We tried to comfort him, knowing in our hearts how useless this was. Sandy had advertised constantly on ABC radio and other local newspapers. Despite some "sightings" in the dock at first, the dog was never found later. It seemed Spider decided to search for us elsewhere.

We sailed back two years later and re-established our home in Toowoomba. My father immediately began his own searching for Spider. Several months passed but there was still no news concerning Spider. The dog was gone, possibly shot or dead from starvation or exhaustion.

One cold morning eight months after our return, my father had a call from an old lady who said she was putting food out for a very old dog. In the night the food disappeared. This had been going on for a few weeks. That was enough for my father to interrupt my homework and we set off immediately. When we arrived at the old lady's house, she invited us into an old bush. Sadly, she then told us that the "dingo dog" hadn't been around for a few days. My father had a strange look in his eye. He put two fingers to his lips and did his special whistle (口哨) for Spider.

Honey is my dog. She always follows me like a shadow. She often accompanies me to visit neighbours.

That October morning last year, I year, I decided to take Honey with me while I'll ran some errands (办事). I opened the door of my car. "Come on, Honey. Let's go." She jumpe into the SUV and settled down on the passenger seat. I got behind the wheel and started the SUV.

It's always difficult turning around. We live in a remote area up in the hills outside San Rafael, California, surrounded by towering redwoods. You have to drive up the mountain to get to our driveway.

I moved around and backed up slowly. Suddenly, I felt a shake as the left back section of the SUV dropped. Oh, no! The edge! The car slipped in the soft soil, and rolled. I hadn't put on my seat belt yet; I was waiting to finish turning around. Now I fell inside the SUV as it somersaulted (翻滚) down the valley. Branches broke. The car rolled faster. Four, five, six rolls until I heard a horrible noise. A large branch plunged (插入) through the roof, and then hit my leg and chest. We landed upside down. I felt a sharp pain in my chest. I was pinned (钉住). I looked over to find Honey. She was still in the passenger seat and, thank goodness, she was okay.

"Sorry, girl," I said. I tried to see if I could unpin myself from behind the wheel. It was no use. Something was wrong with my leg. I grabbed my cell phone and called 911. But I couldn't get a signal at the bottom of that valley.

I figured we were at least t 50 feet down. Robin, my closest neighbour, lived a quarter mile uphill from me, and had her own driveway. There was no reason she or anyone else would drive up to my house.

At least I could get Honey out of there.1There was a hole in the driver's side window. Painfully, I reached over and picked her up. I gently put her head through the hole.

"Go home, baby."
