I was born in a poor village in Uganda. I spent the 1 days of my childhood there. My mother died when I was born. My father never cared about me, which 2 me to leave when I was ten. For the next three years, I helped people do something and they provided me with shelter and food 3 . Luckily, a 4 family paid for me to go to school. For the first time after leaving home, I felt 5 . Then, I attended school and got a job. I always 6 to help children in need. Yet I 7 felt I could do something more.

Anthony arrived that night, "Can I call you Dad?" he asked.

"No." I needed to keep my 12 .

Monday morning a worker in the center came to 13 Anthony. From their talk, I learned he had been 14 three times, but nobody would take him in.

Looking at Anthony, I saw something that made me think of the 15 boy I had once been. "I'll take him in," I said.

It never occurred to me to think about my future job till I entered high school. In the years before high school, I 1 much on football and music. That was 2 I spent most of my spare time. After I entered high school, my 3 for civil engineering （土木工程） inspired me to make greater efforts.

I found my way to civil engineering 4 when I read an article about the Los Angeles earthquake in

Though new term had begun for weeks, the new girl Molly still remained 1 around her classmates. Now she was sitting at the picnic table alone. She seemed unsure of what to do or say, yet I could see her eyes longing for 2 .

Brianna, the class clown, was standing near the playground making the other students laugh, as usual. "Brianna, Molly looks awfully 3 . Would you invite her to join us?" I said.

Brianna sighed. I could tell that she was 4 to do what I was asking of her, but I also knew she was so sweet and kind. I had specifically 5 her for this task. She looked at her friends, then at Molly.

Knowing this choice was 6 her, I reached into my pocket and pulled out a D-buck, our class currency(货币). I needed to 7 her cooperation.

She offered an insincere smile, grasped the green paper, and headed off.

I watched closely as the girls talked. When they finally walked back together, I sighed with 9 .

A minute later, Brianna came back and handed me the D-buck.

"I shouldn't keep this." Her eyes fell to her feet, 10 radiating from her quiet voice. "I don't want Molly to think I only went to get her so I could earn a D-buck. She's my friend."

Then Brianna skipped back to amuse her classmates again, and who laughed for the first time that week? Molly.

I'm standing on Rio's beach, one of the most famous 1 of sand. In this lively, multicultural country, the beach is not just a place;it's a state of mind—a way of thinking and living. 

Every Brazilian has his or her own ideas of the perfect beach, 2 to tell you where to find it. I'm happy to take their advice but my ultimate goal is to find my own dream beach. First, I go to Prainha's beach 3 by a row of perfect palm trees, moving softly in the ocean breeze. Its beauty is magnificent-its perfect graceful lines are like something in a 4 . But for me, it's somewhat too perfect. I am searching for something a bit 5 . 

I continue my search heading north to a legendary beach: Jeri. As an international destination, it attracts visitors from Tokyo to Toronto. Luckily, Jeri hasn't been 6 by tourists mostly because of its isolated(偏远的)location—at least five hours from any airport. I take a beach buggy(沙地车), driving for three hours. The boats lie on their sides while nets 7 to dry on lines between fishermen's houses. Peaceful and beautiful! How can it possibly get any better? I 8 . 

My final stop is the islands of Fernando, 9 a few hundred kilometers out in the Atlantic. They once were used as a prison and later by the army. Today, they are a national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site, 10 with birds and sea life. The beach there is a perfect 11 of sand, sea, and sky. The water is pale blue and warm, alive with colorful fish, 12 , and other marine life; the sand is the color of 13 . In the rocks and strong winds that 14 come in from the Atlantic, there is the wilderness I was seeking. Finally, I've found the beach of my dreams. I 15 my toes in the sand deeply and imagine I can hold on to this place forever.

Raynor Winn and her husband Moth became homeless due to their wrong investment. Their savings had been 1 to pay lawyers' fees. To make matters worse, Moth was diagnosed(诊断) with a serious disease. There was no 2 , only pain relief. 

Failing to find any other way out, they decided to make a walking journey, as they caught sight of an old hikers'(徒步旅行者) guide.

This was a long journey of unaccustomed hardship and 3 

recovery. When leaving home, Raynor and Moth had just ￡320 in the bank. They planned to keep the 4 low by living on boiled noodles, with the 5 hamburger shop treat. 

Wild camping is 6 in England. To avoid being caught, the Winns had to get their tent up late and packed it away early in the morning. The Winns soon discovered that daily hiking in their 50s is a lot 7 than they remember it was in their 20s. Raynor 8 all over and desired a bath. Moth, meanwhile, after an initial 9 , found his symptoms were strangely 10 by their daily tiring journey. 

11 , the couple found that their bodies turned for the better, with re-found strong muscles that they thought had lost forever. "Our hair was fried and falling out, nails broken, clothes 12 to a thread, but we were alive." 

During the journey, Raynor began a career as a nature writer. She writes, "13 had taken every material thing from me and left me torn bare, an empty page at the end of a(n) 14 written book. It had also given me a choice, either to leave that page 15 or to keep writing the story with hope. I chose hope." 

The story goes that some time ago, a man punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was1 , so he became2 when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.3 , the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy."

The man was4 by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found out the box was 5 . He6 at her, stating, "Don't you know, when you give someone a present, there is supposed to be something inside? The little girl7 at him with8 in her eyes and cried," Oh, Daddy, it's not empty at all. I blew9 into the box. They're all for you, Daddy."

The father was10 . He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged for her11 .Only a short time later, an accident12 the life of the child. It is also told that her father kept that gold box by his bed for many years and, whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an13 kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each one of us, as humans beings, has been given a gold container fled with14 love and kisses...from our children, family members, friends, and God. There is simply no other possession, anyone could hold, more15 than this.
