Last Saturday, my friend and I were walking back home after a nice evening. I {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(ask) my friend if we could walk through the town instead of taking our usual shortcut. So we did. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (sudden), a few {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(step) ahead, we saw a woman, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}was sitting on the edge of the sidewalk. She looked bad and when we asked her if she felt all right, we realized she was badly injured{#blank#}5{#/blank#} covered with blood. While my friend can back to our closest friend's place to get a thick cover, a young fellow joined {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (we) and called an ambulance. All along I sat next {#blank#}7{#/blank#} her, talking and {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (listen) to keep her awake until the ambulance arrived. She was badly {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(shock) and started to fall asleep. I knew that it was of great {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(dangerous) and she might have lost consciousness（意识）. We hope she is safe and sound now.

    Albert Einstein, the genius behind the theory of relativity, has recently been making headlines again. However, this time it is not for a new scientific breakthrough,{#blank#}1{#/blank#}for a handwritten note he gave a bellboy 95 years ago.

    In October 1922, Einstein was delivering a series of lectures in Japan{#blank#}2{#/blank#}he received a telegram informing him that he{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(award) the Nobel Prize for Physics. Though{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(please) at the news, the Nobel winner decided to continue with his Japanese trip instead of{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(head) to Stockholm to accept the honor.

    While in Tokyo, he penned{#blank#}6{#/blank#}note in German, saying “A quiet and humble life will bring more{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(happy) than the pursuit of success...” Perhaps he had no loose change to tip a bellboy coming to deliver the message, he gave him the note, and told him,“ Maybe if you are lucky, the note{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(become) more valuable than just a regular tip. ”

    Earlier this year, the bellboy's nephew decided to hand it to Jerusalem-based Winner's Auctions (拍卖) and Exhibitions. The note was then put up for auction,{#blank#}9{#/blank#}might bring the owner a surprising $1.56 million{#blank#}10{#/blank#}a European buyer. It was a record for an auction of a document in Israel and the wild-haired scientist deserved it.

    According to a recent survey, violence does exist in schools. Students show their fear and parents and teachers also {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (express) their great concern about it. Experts hope {#blank#}2{#/blank#} whole society will pay more attention to the mental health of adolescents.

    Nowadays, school violence is a big issue. I think this is a phenomenon (现象), which {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (call) for our great concern. We should try every effort {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (prevent) school violence happening, for more and more students would drop out of school if their personal {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (safe) could not be guaranteed (保证).     All in all, we students should behave {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (we) and keep away from violence.

    As I write this, I'm sitting on a bus back to Santiago in Chile where I am working {#blank#}1{#/blank#} a writer. I've just spent the weekend in a city called La Serena north of Santiago. I was lucky enough to see the flowering desert, a natural scene that {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (occur) around every five years here in the Atacama Desert.

The bloom was particularly {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (impress) this year due to the strong presence of El Niño (a band of warm water in the Pacific Ocean that changes the temperatures and increases the rainfall in certain areas). The vast carpet of color {#blank#}9{#/blank#} spread into the distance towards the green hills was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (simple) breathtaking and deserved a large amount of photos! A real reminder of the beauty our planet can provide.

    As we head towards midwinter all seems quiet in the garden, but now is the perfect time for {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (plant) a tree. Are you worrying about not having the space? The most {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (common) suggested candidate for this treatment is an olive(橄榄树)—and with good reason. They are evergreen and have character from a young age.

    If you want something {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (usual), I'd give dwarf eucalypus {#blank#}8{#/blank#} try. Eucalypus kybeannensis is much slower growing than its cousins, creating an airy treetop of fragrant leaves on trees just 5m tall.

    Finally, if bright {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (colour) are more your thing, you can choose Cercis canadensis “Forest Pansy”(加拿大红叶紫荆). It is clothed all summer in rich and heart-shaped leaves with bare branches {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (decorate) with pink flowers in the spring.
