阅读理解。

“I will think of it.” It is easy to say this, but do you know what great things have come from thinking?

Sir Isaac Newton was sitting in his garden when he saw an apple fall from a tree. He began to think and tried to find out why the apple fell. Then he discovered how the sun, moon, and stars are kept in their places.

A boy named James Watt sat quietly by the fire, watching the lid of the kettle move up and down. He wanted to find out why the steam in the kettle moved the lid. From that time he went on thinking and thinking. And when he became a man, he improved the steam engine (蒸汽机) so much that it could easily do the work of many horses.

James Ferguson was a poor boy. Once, seeing the inside of a watch, he wondered. “Why should I not make a watch?” But how could he get the materials to make the mainspring (钟表的主发条)? He soon found he could make it with whalebone (鲸骨). He then made a wooden clock which kept good time. His motto (座右铭) was “I will think of it.” And he made his thoughts useful to himself and the world.

Boys and girls, when you have a difficult lesson to learn, don't lose heart, and don't ask someone for help before helping yourselves. Think, and by thinking you will learn how to think to some purpose.

Have you ever looked in your bin? It may sound unpleasant, but in fact it tells you how much food your family throws away.

It's said that families in the UK produce more than six million tons {#blank#}1{#/blank#} food waste each year. Apples, bananas, bread, potatoes and salad are {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(common) waste of all. So now is a good time to become a food-waste "fighter". Here are some simple tips {#blank#}3{#/blank#} can help you and your family become food-waste "fighters".

First, it's a good idea {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(find) out just how much food goes into your bin. Keep a diary and write down the foods that {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(throw) away most often and why.

Second, planning meals for a week with your family can save time and money. Meat from a Sunday roast can go into {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(sandwich) on Monday. Bananas that are brown and soft can be baked into banana bread.

Third, your fridge can give you {#blank#}7{#/blank#} hand. It can help keep your fruit and vegetables fresh for a few days. And you can also freeze leftovers(剩菜) in a sealed container for one or two days. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} sometimes it's hard to keep track of all the food that's gone to the fridge of your own. You can put an "eat me first" label on a shelf, and put foods that have been in the fridge for a while on the shelf. It will remind you to eat {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(they) first.

{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(final), use your senses. Some UK supermarkets have taken best-before dates off fruit and vegetables. They encourage people to use their noses and eyes to work out if something is actually still fine to eat.

Everyone is born with the ability to learn. But whether or not you can do this well depends on your learning habits. Research shows that successful learners have some good habits in common.

Creating an interest in what they learn

Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time. Good learners often connect what they need to learn with something they are interested in. For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programs in English. This way they will not get bored.

Practicing and learning from mistakes

Good learners think about what they are good at and what they need to practice more. Remember, "use it or lose it"! Even if you learn something well, you will forget it unless you use it. Practice makes perfect. Good learners are also not afraid of making mistakes. Alexander Graham Bell did not invent the telephone overnight. He succeeded by trying many times and learning from his mistakes.

Developing their study skills

It is not enough to just study hard. You have to know how to study. Good learners find out the best ways to learn well. For example, they may take notes by writing down key words or by drawing mind maps. Good learners also look for ways to review what they have learned. They may do this by reading their notes every day or by explaining the information to another student.

Asking questions

Good learners often ask questions during or after class. They even ask each other and try to find out the answers. Knowledge comes from questioning. Learning is a life-long journey because every day brings something new. Everything that you learn l becomes a part of you and changes you, so learn wisely and learn well.

 阅读下面材料,从方框中所给的 A—F六个选项中选择正确的选项,将其序号填入第35—39 小题。其中一项是多余选项。

I often hear some students say English is difficult and gives them a headache. So they can't learn it well. But English is very easy for me. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} I'm very glad to tell you something about how I study English.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} When I was in Grade Three, we had a new subject— English. It was new to me. I was interested in it, so I worked hard at it. Soon we had an English exam and I got a very good mark. How happy I was!{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Our English teacher often teaches us English songs, and the songs sound nice. I often think how interesting English is!

Second, as English is a foreign language, I learn it well in the following ways:{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Then practise again and again, and never be tired.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} Whenever I have a question, I must make it clear by asking our English teacher. How happy I am when I understand it!

A. I'm good at it.

B. And I also have a learning habit.

C. After that, I learned English harder and harder.

D. First, I think an interest in English is very important.

E. To think in English is a difficult thing for me at first.

F. Listen to the teacher carefully, speak bravely, read aloud and have a good vocabulary.

阅读下面材料, 从方框中所给的 A~E五个选项中选出正确选项(其中一项是多余选项), 并回答问题。

How many times have we told ourselves"I'm going to study from now on." or"I'm going to do more English exercises to improve myself next week."? And soon, all our decisions are gone.

Being lazy is the most common thing in the world. It has become the biggest enemy(敌人) in front of us and"giving up" usually happens to us. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} The following ways are very useful.

First, set a goal(目标) that you can get to. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} That's because you are used to the way that things are going, and even if you want to change, it's difficult. So don't try to conquer(征服) laziness in the beginning, just conquer some small things which you can achieve. As the saying goes, "Well begun is half done."

Second, take action at once and then you will make progress little by little. Please remember"{#blank#}3{#/blank#}"

Third, be responsible(有责任心的). To beat laziness, we need a bit of pressure. Pressure can encourage people, especially when it's good.

 At last, be confident (自信的) and keep doing it no matter what happens. You' ll meet difficulties and fall down. Just get up and keep going. You' ll make mistakes and get disappointed(失望的). It doesn't matter. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

In fact, being lazy is not terrible. Follow the advice above, keep your own promises and get started right now.

A. Don't be afraid of laziness.

B. Remember, laziness is strong.

C. So how could we beat laziness?

D. Actions speak louder than words.

E. Learn from your mistakes and keep going.

What will you do to beat laziness?(答案不少于5个单词) {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
