For thousands of years，poetry(诗歌) has been one of the favorite types of literature(文学) in China.There were many famous poets in Chinese history，and many of their poems are still read and loved today.

    Recently，a popular TV show—ChinesePoetryCompetition has attracted many people.Now let's interview some people and listen to what they said.

    There was once a man called Mr. Flowers, and flowers were his only joy in life. He spent all his free time in one of his four glass-houses and grew flowers of every color, with long and difficult names, for competitions（比赛）. He tried to grow a rose of a new color to win the silver cup（银杯）for the Rose of the Year.

    Mr. Flowers' glass-houses were very near to a middle school. Boys of around thirteen of age were often tempted（引诱）to throw a stone or two at one of Mr. Flowers' glass-houses. So Mr. Flowers did his best to be in or near his glass-houses at the beginning and end of the school day.

    But it was not always possible to be on watch at those times. Mr. Flowers had tried in many ways to protect his glass, but nothing that he had done had been useful. He had been to school to report to the headmaster; but this had not done any good. He had tried to drive away the boys that threw stones into his garden; but the boys could run faster than he could, and they laughed at him from far away. He had even picked up all the stones that he could find around his garden, so that the boys would have nothing to throw; but they soon found others.

    At last Mr. Flowers had a good idea. He put up a large notice（布告）made of good, strong wood, some meters away from the glass-houses. On it he had written the words: DO NOT THROW STONES AT THIS NOTICE. After this, Mr. Flowers had no further trouble; the boys were much more tempted to throw stones at the notice than at the glass-houses.

    "Oh, my God," said Mrs. Kim. "I don't think we will be able to do our lesson today." Children loved Mrs. Kim's science lessons. Josh asked, "Why not?" "Well," began Mrs. Kim, "I had planned to do some measuring today. But I forgot to bring any ruler. We can't measure anything without a ruler, can we?"

    "What are we going to measure?" asked Mathew. "I want you to measure the distance from one side of the classroom to the other side." answered Mrs. Kim. "We could measure it as my dad sometimes does，" said C. J. "He sometimes just puts one foot in front of the other. I guess that's how we find out how long something is. "

     "Let's see whether that will work，"said Mrs. Kim. "Why don't you see how many feet it takes to cross the room, C. J. ？"C. J. began walking from one side of the classroom to the other side. He put one foot down and then put the heel of the other foot at the toe of his first foot. He continued doing this until he crossed the room. "I counted thirty of my feet from one side to the other side, " C. J. said.

     "So you think the room is thirty feet across？"asked Mrs. Jim. "I think someone else should try "said Maddie "just to make sure. ""All right，Maddie "said Mrs. Kim "why don't you try？"

    Janie shook her bank. It was not heavy. She shook it again. It made very little sound.

    She sighed (叹气). How could she buy dad a gift? Father's Day was almost here. She went to talk to mom.

    "Mom," said Janie, I need money. "What do you need money for?" asked Mom. "I need to get dad a gift for Father's Day." "I will not give you the money," said Mom. "I will help you to make it." "What do I have to do?" asked Janie. "You can help me," said Mom. "You can help with housework. I will make a list of jobs. Each one will be worth a price. When you do a job well, I will give you the money according to the price." "OK. That's a good idea." said Janie.

    Mom quickly made a housework list: sweeping the floor, $2; making the table, $0.5 ; washing socks, $1; making the bed, $1; washing the dishes, $2; taking out the litter, $1; cutting the grass in the garden, $3; tidying the room, $3.

    After that, Janie helped with the housework happily every day, "What a pleasant surprise father will have when he gets the gift!" Janie often imagines (想象).
