Lake Street School Big Day Out!

Dear Parents,

    We are happy to have our summer trip to the Children Movie Museum and the Sports Park on Thursday, July 11th (Grade Seven) and Friday, July 12th (Grade Eight). Students can learn lots of very interesting things about the cinema and how movies are made. They will also learn about many sports and their rules.

Meeting Time: 7:40 am

Leaving Time: 8:00 am

Meeting Place: at the school gate

Arriving Time: by 5:00 pm

    We have this trip for the students to learn outside the classroom and also have a good time with friends. Students need to take a pen and a notebook with them because they have to take notes about what they see. They also need to wear their school uniforms and sports shoes. Please tell them to follow the rules in the museum and the park.

    We will be eating lunch at the dining hall of the park. The cost of the trip is 40 yuan. It is for the bus ride and the lunch.

    If your child cannot come, please tell your head teacher by July 8th in your class teacher-parent WeChat group.

An old farmer lived with his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa was always up early to read. One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa! What good does reading do?"

Tom and Jerry

    Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse are two of the most popular cartoon characters in the world. In the short cartoons, Tom is always trying to catch Jerry, but he never has any success. Almost every cartoon ends with Tom in trouble and Jerry laughing at him. The stories are full of fun and have a long history.

    William Hanna and Joseph Barbera both worked for MGM in the late 1930s. Their boss told them to make funny cartoons. Together they thought of the idea of a cat and a mouse. They thought it would be funny if the mouse was clever and always got the cat into trouble.

    The first Tom and Jerry cartoon was shown in cinemas in 1940. It was a great success. Over the next 17 years, they made many Tom and Jerry cartoons. Most of them are around seven minutes long.

    In total, Hanna and Barbera made 114 Tom and Jerry cartoons. The cartoons were so good that they won a number of awards. The famous cat and mouse remain popular today, as the cartoons are still shown on television around the world.

A little bear is called Herry. He doesn't like brushing1. Every day his mother2to him,

"Herry, it's time for you to brush your teeth and go to bed.""I know, Mom." says Herry unhappily. He goes to the3and turns on the tap(龙头). He keeps water running. His mother thinks he is brushing his teeth.

"Too many teeth! How can I brush all these teeth?" Herry feels sad. "Maybe I can do it tomorrow morning. It is too bad to brush teeth every day." He looks at his4teeth and thinks, "I don't want to brush my teeth today. I can brush them twice tomorrow. That will be OK."

But the next day, he doesn't brush his teeth. He always thinks he can do it tomorrow. One morning, when he gets up, he finds all of his teeth have gone5. He cries, "My teeth! My teeth! " His mother comes into his bedroom and says, "What's6?" "I don't have any teeth now, Mom! I7to brush my teeth every day. " He cries again and again. His mother takes him to see the8. The doctor says, "Oh, little bear! I am9to say you can't eat any food now. There aren't any teeth in your mouth."

The little bear cries and cries10. Suddenly he wakes up, "Oh, thank goodness! It is a dream. A terrible dream." He gets up at once and goes to brush his teeth. He tells himself to brush his teeth every day.

It is more than sixty years since the death of Lei Feng, and yet his spirit still influences Chinese young people. In fact, the wish to help others can always be found among common people. 

On September 5, 2022, when an earthquake hit Luding, Sichuan, a 28-ycar-old hydropower station (水电站) worker Gan Yu chose not to leave but stay at his workplace. saving villages from being damaged. People think he is a hero like Lei Feng. but he doesn't feel that he should be compared to the young hero. "Lei Feng is a role model to all Chinese young people. The things he did may seem small. but behind them was a great quality that we can all achieve." he said. 

Zeng Qiangfei, 24, is also from Sichuan. In 2013, when an earthquake happened in his hometown, he was studying in a middle school. Zeng remembered seeing rescuers (救援者) and volunteers gather there to help. When he grew up, he became a volunteer himself. After a terrible quake hit Turkey and Syria this year, he flew there to help. During the course, he always saw local people bowing quietly to volunteers like them. "I grew up listening to Lei Feng's stories. He is an excellent young man who tried his best to help others." said Zeng. 

This view is shared by a 56-year-old British man named James Elroy Edginton, who lives in Hunan. the hometown of Lei Feng. Working at a local college. Edginton volunteers to help students from poor families. and is warmly regarded as a "foreign Lei Feng". "I am glad to be connected with the spirit of Lei Feng. His qualities are borderless (无国界的) ." he said. 

My name is Nancy. I'm twelve years old. I'm from China. I am a middle school student. I'm in Class Three. I like green and blue. This is my new friend. Her name is Wendy. She is thirteen years old. She is from England. We are friends, but we are in different classes. Wendy is in Class Four. She likes red and yellow. She is a good student. All the students and teachers in her class like her. Wendy likes swimming, and she often swims after school. I can't swim. I like basketball and football. I often play basketball with my sister in the afternoon.
