Our food is very important. We like eating it, and it makes us strong and h{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. In most countries, people have three or four meals every day. Having a good meal is l{#blank#}2{#/blank#}filling a car with petrol. It gives us fuel for the work we do.

The f{#blank#}3{#/blank#} important meal is breakfast. Doctors say that if you don't have a good breakfast, you can't work well. In China, you can have rice or bread for breakfast. There is a proverb, ‘Eat breakfast like an emperor, eat lunch like a king, and eat dinner like a poor person.' This means you should eat a lot in the morning, eat w{#blank#}4{#/blank#}at noon, but you shouldn't eat too much at night.

In western countries, people usually have bread or cereal for breakfast. Rice, noodles, bread and cereal are alike. They give you energy and make you f{#blank#}5{#/blank#}full.

What do you eat for lunch? Lunch food may be different in different countries. Let's take a look around the world to see people's lunch.

America

During workdays, Americans eat a quick lunch like a sandwich, or something from the night before. Children bring packed lunches to school. Adults may leave work to go out for a quick lunch. They may also choose sandwiches or hamburgers, and sometimes salad.

Japan

Japanese often eat rice, noodles, seafood and beef in bowls or bento(便当) boxes. School children and adults take their lunch to their working places with bento boxes. Miso soup is popular. 

Thailand

Lunch in Thailand is usually noodles. There are many ways to cook noodles. One popular dish is thin rice noodles, tofu and prawns. Another way to eat rice noodles is with meat, vegetables and thick gravy(肉汁).

Mike: What would you like to eat, Amy?

Amy: I'd like some vegetables and salad. I like them. They are healthy.

Sarah: I'd like beef noodles and fish. They are delicious.

John: I like beef. But I'm heavy now. I have to eat vegetables. What about you, Mike?

Mike: I like vegetables. But I don't like carrots. Tomatoes are my favourite. They are delicious.

       Not a good day. My older brother Jeremy is cooking tonight.What's the problem？Well, the problem is that you don't know my brother.You don't know how he cooks.And you don't know that every Friday is a nightmare for me b{#blank#}1{#/blank#}my parents go to their dance class.When they come back，we all sit down and Jeremy starts serving what he calls 'a surprise meal'.

Jeremy always cooks too much food，like fish，steak，boiled ham，roast chicken and sausages.All is on one plate.How can one person eat all that in one meal？Mum and Dad don't say a word.And of course，they don't cook even one meal t{#blank#}2{#/blank#}.They don't want to give up their dance classes.

Spaghetti tonight. When Jeremy says 'spaghetti'，he doesn't say it.He sings it.He loves terrible.There isn't cooking spaghetti，but that doesn't make a difference.It t{#blank#}3{#/blank#}enough tomato sauce on it.There's too much pasta and salt. A{#blank#}4{#/blank#} one of my brother's favourites is vegetable soup.It's always too spicy，and there are not enough vegetables in it.And he puts in little pieces of fish，steak，ham，chicken and sausages.You can guess where they're from.
