On September 19, Alibaba went public (上市) on the New York Shock Exchange. It shows that Ma Yun has done his business successfully. A short Chinese man seems to be the tallest man in the world right now. Ma used to be an English teacher. So far, he has become the richest man on the Chinese mainland.

 Ma was born in Hangzhou and grew up as a happy kid. At the age of twelve, he found that English was very interesting. Every morning he got up at 5 a.m., and then ran to a hotel near the West Lake where he could communicate with foreign tourists in English. He did it for nine years.The experience made him become a fantastic English speaker and also opened his eyes to the wide world. In a 1995 trip to the US,  Ma was shown to the Internet for the first time. Seeing the chance, Ma returned to China and set up a website without knowing much about computers. Four years later, Ma set up Alibaba in Hangzhou. People called him “Crazy Jack Ma”. But fifteen years later, Alibaba has developed into the world's largest e-commerce (电子商务) company.

    In April 2004,Sharon Tirabassi got more than $10 million(一百万)by winning a lottery(彩票抽奖)．She became very rich．But just in nine years，she spent almost all the money．Now she even has to work hard to make enough money for everyday use．

    Before she won the lottery, Sharon lived in a small apartment with her three children and didn't have enough money for a car．After she won it，she was unprepared for the change to her life．She spent most of her time shopping with her friends and paid for everything．She bought a big house in the richest part of town and four cars．

    Today, Sharon lives in a rented(租来的)house on a quiet street-not far from where she started．She doesn't have the big house or the expensive cars．She goes to work by bus or by bike．

But Sharon says she's happier now than she used to be．and she lives life more fully than she did before．”When I was rich，I spent all my time shopping．But now other things are more important to me．”says Sharon．Now Sharon works hard and

often talks with her children.” I'm trying to get them to learn that they have to work for money ，” she says．

    A bottle of water may not seem much to you, but thousands of bottles will be of great help for people who live in drought-hit areas in China.

    Since last autumn, there has been very little rain in Southwest China. Some places, especially in Yunnan, Guangxi, Sichuan and Guizhou, have experienced a serious drought. Crops died, the land cracked(裂开) and wells and rivers died up. More than 20 million people are having difficulty finding safe drinking water.

    After learning about the drought, many people around the country helped by giving water, money and other things.

    The serious drought has also made students realize the importance of saving water. Students from Nanshan Middle School in Huizhou, Guangdong, went on to the street to tell people to take part in water-saving activities.

    "I've heard that some children in drought-hit areas don't have enough drinking water. I feel really sad about that," said one student. "I decided to take a shower twice a week instead of every day to save water." He said.

    Pakistani girl Malala Yousafzai is the youngest ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize. She has become the voice of girls throughout the world.

Born in Swat Valley in Pakistan in 1997, Malala lived a quiet life until 2009, when the Taliban(塔利班), an Islamic organization of violence(暴力) took control of her village.   ①   . They believed educating girls was against Islam. But Malala didn't agree. She wouldn't give up her education and kept going to school.   ②    "What is wrong with us girl students? We want all girls to get their schools back," she wrote. Her hard work encouraged many young girls in Swat Valley.

      ③    On Oct.9, 2012, when Malala was taking a bus home, a Taliban man got on the bus with a gun in his hand. A bullet immediately hit her in the face. Luckily, the shot didn't kill her. She was taken to a hospital in the UK. The shot didn't kill her courage, either.   ④    Her courage made her famous.

    She has spoken at the United Nations, met world leaders and written a book named I Am Malala.

    OnOct.10, 2013, the EP awarded Malala the top human rights prize. They said," She is an icon(符号) of courage for all teenagers who dare to follow their aspirations(愿望)."

    CCTV reported that every year Chinese people throw away a lot of food which can feed 200 million people for a year.

    Do we have too much food? Of course not. According to the UN World Food Programmed, there were 900 million hungry people all over the world in 2013.

    About six million children die of hunger every year.

    So think about it. We should say no to people who waste food every day. An old saying goes," Every grain on the plate comes from hard work. "It tells us everybody must save food.

    Luckily a number of people have realized the importance of saving food.

    Li Hong, a waitress in a restaurant in Jiangsu, once lost her Job because she took some leftover(剩余的) food home for her son. But many people were by her side and criticized(批评) the waste of food.

    What should we do in our daily life to stop wasting food? We can do many things to prevent it from happening. Here are some tips:

    Don't order too much food in a restaurant. Only order as much as you can eat. If you can't eat all the food you order, take the rest of it home.

    Don't be too picky(挑别的) about food. Some food may not be tasty, but your body needs it.

    Don't keep too much food at home, especially for fruit and vegetables.

    We did a survey (调查) about students' free time activities yesterday. One of our questions was about exercise and of course, it is the most important one. From the survey, we knew only 25% of the girls often have activities outside. Many girls do little exercise. They don't like P.E. classes and even don't play sports. These girls may face a lot of problems. They may get fatter and weaker, And they may get some kinds of illnesses(疾病) easily. Wang Jing, a 16-year-old girl, said, "I don't like doing exercise. I like watching TV on the sofa. I spend at least three hours watching TV a day. My sleeping time is no more than seven hours a day. I often feel tired

    Some girls said, "We don't have enough time to do exercise. We must help our parents with housework because they are very tired after a day's work. We do some washing, clean the house and finish the homework. We don't have time for doing anything else."

    Everyone may have these excuses(借口) for not doing exercise. However, we must know that if we don't do exercise, we will get sick easily. As students, we'd better exercise every day. That makes us live a healthy life.
