Say you're sitting around with some friends playing video games and someone mentions a game that happens to be one of your favorites. "Oh, that game's easy. So not worth the time," of your friends says. The others agree. Although you enjoy the game quite a lot, not wanting to argue with them, you go along with the crowd.

You have just experienced what is commonly referred to as peer pressure, also called peer influence. You will adopt a certain type of behavior, dress, or attitude in order to be accepted as part of a group of your "peers". As a teen, you are likely to have experienced the effect of peer pressure in a number of different areas.

We are all influenced by our peers at any age. For teens, as school and other activities take you away from home, you may spend more time with your friends than with your family. As you become more independent, your peers naturally play a greater role in your life.

According to Dr. Casey from Cornel University, teens are very quick and accurate in making decisions on their own and in situations where they have time to think. However, when they make decisions in the heat of the moment or in social situations, their decisions are often influenced by factors like peers. In a recent study, teen volunteers played a video driving game, either alone or with friends watching. The researchers discovered that the number of risks teens took more than doubled when their friends were watching, compared with when they played alone. This shows that teens may find it more difficult to control risky behavior when their friends are around, or in situations where they are extremely angry.

Just as people can influence us to make unwise choices, they can also influence us to make good ones. A teen might join in a volunteer project because his or her friends are doing it, or get good grades because his or her friends think getting good grades is important. In fact, friends often encourage each other to study, or try out for sports.

While we are always influenced by those around us, the decision to act or not is up to us. So when it comes to decision making, the choice is up to you.

We all enjoy the colors of autumn leaves．Did you ever wonder how and why a leaf changes color？Where do the yellows and oranges come from？To answer those questions，we first have to understand what leaves are and what they do．

Leaves are the world's food factories．Plants take water from the ground through their roots and take CO₂ from the air．Plants use sunlight to turn water and CO₂ into glucose（葡萄糖），a kind of sugar．Plants use it as food for energy and growing．

A chemical called "chlorophyll（叶绿素）" in the leaves gives plants their green color．As summer ends and autumn comes，the days get shorter and shorter，and trees "know" it's time to begin getting ready for winter．

During winter，there is not enough sunlight or water．Trees rest during this time and live on the food they store during the summer．They begin to shut down their foodmaking factories．As the green chlorophyll disappears from the leaves，we begin to see yellow and orange leaves．

The bright reds and purples we see in leaves are made mostly in autumn．In some trees，like maples（枫树），sunlight and the cool nights of autumn turn the glucose in the leaves into a red color．And we can enjoy the beautiful red leaves during autumn．

There are three floors which are open to the public. You can start on the first floor. This was Sir John's work area. You can ask the guards about the paintings on the walls as they tell you something about his family and life. And don't worry about the guards as they are really nice and helpful. Next, you can go downstairs to the ground floor. Here you can see his rich collection of paintings. For example, there is a series（系列)of interesting paintings about 18th century life in London. Now comes the last part, the underground floor. It's full of thousands of valuable objects, such as sculptures(雕塑)and models of famous buildings from all over the world. Walking around this part of the house is a bit like being on a treasure hunt, as you can find things hidden away in secret corners. Anyway, you'll have to go there yourself to see. 

Sir John Soane's Museum is a very small place. It's only about ten minutes' walk from the British Museum. There is a free hour-long guided tour every Saturday at 2:30 pm, but the best thing is just to walk about by yourself. So now you know where to go next time you're in London. We guarantee that it's an experience you won't forget!

A mother went home after a long day's hard work. Her 8-year-old daughter ran up to her. She was waiting for her mother and wanted to tell her something about her younger brother.
