This is a picture{#blank#}1{#/blank#}  a park. There are many {#blank#}2{#/blank#} in the park. There aren't any flowers, but there are some trees. In the trees some{#blank#}3{#/blank#}  are singing happily.
    Near the trees there are four men. Now they are playing {#blank#}4{#/blank#} . The man with glasses is watching them.
    Look! A young man is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} around the lake. Some young women are sitting at a{#blank#}6{#/blank#} . They are drinking tea and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} . Three girls are taking {#blank#}8{#/blank#} near the lake.
    There are three {#blank#}9{#/blank#} on the lake. Some children are in them. Are there any young men in the lake? Let me see. Oh, yes, there are. They are {#blank#}10{#/blank#}  in the lake.

    It was the first time that my wife and I had flown first class. As we boarded the plane, we felt as if we were part of a wealthy group. We were{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (满的) of a sense of pride at sitting with those important people.

    We noticed that the stewardess (空姐)was working non-stop to make sure of the comfort of the first class {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (乘客). She could not walk by a seat {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (没有)being given an order. I thought she must love her job very much, since she gave each person {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (如此的) a big smile.

    As the stewardess passed our seats near the end of the {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (航班) , I looked up at her and said: “Thank you and I hope you have a great night.” She stopped with an {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (表情) of disbelief on her face, and said: “Excuse me?” I {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (重复)my words, and she smiled in a rather funny way. It seemed as if I had asked a question that she did not know how to{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (回答). A little later, as we were getting off the plane, the stewardess said to me: “Thank you very much, sir.” Then she said {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (静静地): “You are the only one who has thanked me or said anything nice to me all night. I really appreciate your kindness.

    The sense of belonging to an elite(精英) group in first class disappeared as soon as I heard those words. We were{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (提醒) that if there was no kindness, there would be no first-class flying.

    Life in the{#blank#}1{#/blank#}will be different from life today. Scientists will make{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (电脑) much smaller and more u{#blank#}3{#/blank#} .People will {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (工作) fewer hours than they do now and this will make life easier. Traveling will be{#blank#}5{#/blank#}cheaper and more people will go to other{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (国家) for holidays.

    We will use more land to build new cities and less land for cows and sheep. Then there will{#blank#}7{#/blank#}less room for cows and sheep, so m{#blank#}8{#/blank#} will be more expensive. No one will eat {#blank#}9{#/blank#} every day. I{#blank#}10{#/blank#}we eat more fruit and vegetables, and we will become healthier.

    It was very cold. It was snowing fast and almost dark; the evening—the last evening of the old year was drawing in. In the cold and darkness there went along the street a poor little girl, w{#blank#}1{#/blank#}a cap and shoes. When she l{#blank#}2{#/blank#}her home she had shoes on . H{#blank#}3{#/blank#}, they were much too large for her f{#blank#}4{#/blank#} —shoes that her mother had used till then and the poor little girl l{#blank#}5{#/blank#}them when she was running across the street when two carriages(四轮马车) were p{#blank#}6{#/blank#}by terribly fast. When she looked for them one was not to be found, and a boy hid the o{#blank#}7{#/blank#}and ran away with it, saying he would use it as a house for his mouse.

    In the old c{#blank#}8{#/blank#}that she wore were boxes of matches, and she carried a box also in her hand. No one had brought so much as a box all the long day, and no one had g{#blank#}9{#/blank#}her even a penny.

    Poor little girl shaking with cold and hunger, she walked slowly, q{#blank#}10{#/blank#} and carefully along , a perfect picture of great unhappiness.

    You might have heard the story of The Tortoise and the Hare (《龟兔赛跑》). The hare lost because he was sleeping {#blank#}1{#/blank#}of keeping running during the race. However, there is another more interesting story.

    Once {#blank#}2{#/blank#}a time, a rabbit (家兔) and a turtle (海龟) were arguing about who was faster. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}could give an answer, so they decided to have a race.

    Before the race, the story The Tortoise and the Hare{#blank#}4{#/blank#} the rabbit of his friend, the hare." He should be able to teach me{#blank#}5{#/blank#}useful lesson." So he called the hare." How can I{#blank#}6{#/blank#} the race?" he asked. The hare answered, "Don't be{#blank#}7{#/blank#}like me!"

    The next day, the two animals met. When the fox called "Go!" in  a loud {#blank#}8{#/blank#}, the rabbit started running as fast as possible. Soon, he couldn't see the turtle. He didn't slow down. He ran the whole race {#blank#}9{#/blank#}he reached the finishing line.

    In the end, however, he was so{#blank#}10{#/blank#}that he found the turtle was already at the finishing line!" How did you get here so fast?" asked the rabbit. The turtle smiled and said, "Well, I also called the tortoise. He told me to take a taxi!"
