Dear August,

Welcome to the world! Your mom and I are so excited to see who you will become. When your sister was born, we wrote a letter about the world in which we hoped she, and now you, will grow up-a world with better education, fewer health problems, stronger communities, and a greater society. We wrote that with all the improvement in science and technology, your generation(一代) should live much better lives than ours. Even though headlines (头条) are often about what's wrong, we still believe these hopeful wishes will win out, and we have duties to do our part to make that happen. We're optimists(乐观主义者) about your generation and the future.

But rather than write about growing up, we want to talk about the childhood. The world can be a serious place. That's why it's important to make time to go outside and play. You will be busy when you are older, so I hope you take time to smell all the flowers and collect all the leaves you like in your basket. I hope you read your favorite Dr. Seuss' books now and then before you start inventing your own stories about the Vipper of Vipp. I hope you ride the carousel(旋转木马) with Max until you've tried every color horse. I hope you run as much as you want around our living room and yard. And then I hope you take a lot of naps to be a great sleeper. And I hope even in your dreams you can feel how much we love you.

Childhood is magical. You only get to be a child once,  ▲ . You've got us for that, and we'll do everything we possibly can to make sure the world is a better place for you and all children in your generation.

August, we love you so much and we're so excited to be with you. We wish you a life of happiness, love and the same hope you give us.

It's 6:00 p. m. Kate's family are having dinner. There is rice, eggs, salads, strawberries and some vegetables like tomatoes, onions and carrots on the table. But Kate doesn't like vegetables. She doesn't want to eat them and puts her bowl away.

" Kate," says her father.

" Where are my hamburgers?" asks Kate.

" Don't think about them. We need to eat healthily," says Mom.

" How about some ice- cream, then?" asks Kate.

" Kate," Dad calls her name again. He thinks the dinner is nice.

 Kate takes a bite(咬一口) of the tomato and quickly spits(吐出) it back into the bowl.

" Kate! Room! Now!" says Dad. He doesn't like her bad eating habits.

 Kate runs to her room and cries, but she soon stops. Usually, her parents will get her some other food she likes if she doesn't eat dinner. So she waits(等待).

 At about 7:00 p. m., Mom tries to get Kate to eat some vegetables, but she says no.

 At 9:00 p. m., Kate wants to eat something, but her parents still don't give her anything to eat.

 At 10:00 p. m., Kate goes to the kitchen and sees some vegetables on the table. They don't look so bad. And you know what? They don't taste so bad, either.

 Kate learns that she should eat healthy food and live a healthy life.

When I was in seventh grade，I was shy，quiet and so was easily bullied（受欺负）

In an art lesson，just while the teacher was out，a big boy took away my pencil case，he took my schoolbag and pulled it towards him. I pulled back the schoolbag from his hand and for the first time，I pushed him away and hit him on the back. In the rest of the lesson，"Peter，are you OK? "

"Yes，"I answered. 

"No，you are not. Come to my office after class. "he said. 

There we had a long talk. He made me smile and I became confident again. He taught me some life lessons，and said，"Get up，but remember you are stronger inside，and if the bullies see this

I remembered these words. From then on，every time as I walked to school，I put my head high in the way

After traveling over 18 hours, we finally arrived at Baige Primary School in Yunnan Province. We came here to be volunteer teachers during the summer holiday. Located in the mountains, the school had over 400 children aged from 6 to 13 but only four teachers. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} To enrich their lessons, we wanted to introduce different courses. 

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Before starting my first class, I spent several days reviewing key points and practicing often. In my first class, I poured out everything I had learned. However, the students weren't interested and didn't act well in my class. 

 After that, I changed my teaching plan. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} For example, when I taught the culture in the Tang Dynasty, I began the class with stories from Journey to the West. This time the students actively took part in the discussion. Even after class, some of them were still talking about what they had learned in the lesson. 

I knew that I had succeeded. Thanks to my teaching style, the students easily understood and remembered the history. History class was not boring to them anymore. 

After classes, we spent most of our time talking and playing games with the kids. Because of the location of the mountains, many children never went out. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} We often told fun stories from the cities and encouraged students to study hard and visit these cities by themselves in the future. 

It was an unforgettable experience. We felt proud that we could enlighten(启发) the kids and bring joy to these young minds.

China keeps the same time over all the seasons in a year. But it's different in many countries, like the UK and Germany. 

These countries have summer time and winter time. In March, they set (设置) their clocks one hour forward (往前), However, in October or November, they set their clocks one hour back. 

In the Northern Hemisphere (北半球), after March 23, days slowly become longer and the sun comes out earlier. During that time, if people wake up earlier, they can use more sunlight (阳光). It saves electricity (电). In the winter, however, they can sleep more in the morning to save electricity. 

People working in cinemas dislike setting the clock. They say that when people get more sunlight, they don't want to go to dark cinemas. But baseball lovers like it. When they are in summer time, they can play for a longer time because there is more sunlight.

After walking for a long time, I felt{#blank#}1{#/blank#} . When I got back home, all I wanted was a good night's {#blank#}2{#/blank#} . As I lay in my bed, I could feel my eyes getting heavier and heavier. Several minutes later, I was {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. We need to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} for eight hours every night to keep healthy.
