①Love them or hate them, emojis （表 情 符 号 ） have become an important part of our twenty-first-century culture. Over 90% of the world's 4. 6 billion internet users send them every day. In 2015, Oxford Dictionaries chose Face With Tears of Joy as its Word of the Year. 

②However, some language experts are against this form of communication. They consider it a step back into the dark ages of illiteracy. Emojis, they say, are making us lose the ability to speak. People are depending on these "picture characters"rather than words to express their feelings. 

③I want to challenge this opinion. I'm afraid these experts have misunderstood how communication works. 

④Emojis aren't taking the place of language. Instead, they are making our messages more understandable. Here is an example. Without an emoji, what means by the following message would be puzzling (迷 惑 ):"Hey, I fell over and got my head hit on the kitchen cupboard. "My friend on the other side of the phone might have difficulty working out my true feelings. Should he laugh ("Ha-ha! You're so silly! ") or take pity on me ("Oh. Hope it doesn't hurt too badly")?However, using an emoji ( or ) will spell out the meaning behind my words. Emojis are to text messages what body language is to spoken communication. They allow us to communicate better. 

⑤So, as long as we don't overuse emojis, these lovely characters are helpful. 

How can we tell whether a drink is healthy or not? Recently, Shanghai began to grade drinks with four levels? A, B, C, and D．Level A and B drinks are healthier, while level C and D drinks have much sugar and fat.

The more, the better?

Some students have energy（能量）drinks before doing sports or taking exams. Energy drinks have a lot of sugar and caffeine（咖啡因）. They could make one feel more excited. But remember not to drink too much at a time.

The World Health Organization（世界卫生组织）says children should have no more than 25g sugar a day.

Are sports drinks necessary?

·Having sports drinks sometimes is OK. They give us vitamins and minerals（矿物质）.

·There is no need for them when you do sports for less than two hours.

·For people with heart problems, it is best not to have sports drinks.

The Winter Olympics （冬奥会） is a celebration of snow and ice sports around the world. It is a special event and it only takes place once every four years. In 2022, for the first time ever in the Games' history, Beijing became the first city to have hosted （举办） both the Summer and Winter Olympics. Let's know more about the Beijing Winter Olympics.

☆Events （赛事）

The Games took place from February 4th to 20th, 2022. Its 109 events took place in Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou in Hebei.

☆Emblem （会徽）

The emblem is called "Winter Dream". It comes from the Chinese character （汉字） "winter". At the top of the emblem is a skater rushing forward, while at the bottom （底部） is a skier.

☆Mascot （吉祥物）

The mascot for the Olympic Games is Bing Dwen Dwen, a giant panda. In Chinese, "bing" means ice and "dwen dwen" suggests health, liveliness and generosity （宽厚）. Bing Dwen Dwen's helmet （头盔） stands for winter sports.

Spain is famous for its tomato festival, called La Tomatina. It happens in the town of Bunol in the Valencia region in Spain on the last Wednesday of August every year. During the festival there are all kinds of activities, but the most exciting part is the tomato fight. It takes place(发生) at the end of long celebration. You're encouraged to throw tomatoes in the fight. There're many stories about how the festival began. One of the stories goes that during the 1940s, some friends started a tomato fight, while another story is about a local band. Anyway, everyone in Bunol seems to have a different story. 

Before the tomato fight, there are parades(游行), musical bands, street parties and so on. On the day of the fight, shopkeepers cover their windows and doors in order to keep away from the tomato fight. At the same time, thousands of tourists and local people come to the town square together. Then large trucks(卡车) full of tomatoes arrive. From the back of the large trucks, a great town band start to throw tomatoes at others. Then the crowds fight back. throwing the tomatoes at anything and anyone. Soon the streets are in the sea of red tomato juice. 

Everyone is supposed to obey a small number of rules. You must squash(压烂) the tomato before throwing it and you are allowed to throw nothing but tomatoes. 

It is usually over in less than half an hour. Everyone then sets off to the river to clean up. Sounds like fun!

Bill Smith is an 80-year-old man. He lives with his brother Bob Smith in Texas, America. In his free time, he likes making things and helping others. There are many stray (流浪的) dogs in the street, so Bill wants to help them.

The brothers find nine dogs. The dogs always have no food to eat, so they are not healthy. Then they let these nine dogs live with them and eat with them.

"Everyone needs a little fun in life. Stray dogs need it, too," Bill Smith says. "I think it must be very interesting for them to travel by train."

So Bill and his brother buy some old buckets(桶子)and make a dog train. It is very long. The dogs are happy to see the train, and Bill Smith takes them on trips by train every week.

"These dogs don't have families, but they are lucky to have a good time with us now. I'm very happy to be with them, too," Bill says.
