Set your imaginationfree. Children's imagination is amazing. They can always create things thatsurprise everyone. To1 children's imagination ,NewYork City will hold an activity called the Inventgenuity Festival (创意发明节) for children.

The Inventgenuity Festival is all about thinking and2things.It's held for childrenaged from seven to sixteen. Parents are also able to3thefestival.

   There will be many different kinds of workshopsin the festival. Children are4to create things in those workshops. Forexample, they can make things5funny hand-made T-shirts or cartoon toydolls. No one will tell them6to make these things. They create everythingwith their imagination. Besides making things, children can see a wonderful moviecalledA trip to the Sunin a7duringthe festival.

   In thefestival, children are asked to do most of the work by themselves.8,if the work is too difficult for them, they can ask their parents for9 .

   To takepart in the festival, children need to register (注册) first , and then10theworkshops they like on the website. One child can take part in two workshops ata time.

There was once a king who had a great palace with a wonderful garden. He was happier than1 else there. In the garden, there lived all kinds of animals. All of them enjoyed2 there.

The king was very happy with the whole garden except for3 old tree in the centre of the garden. It was 4 old and dry that the king hated it very much. Finally, the king ordered some people5 it down and turn the place into a swimming pool.6 after the tree was cut down, the animals left the garden. Without the animals, the garden was not as7 as before. The king was sad, but he didn't know what had happened.

The king was sad. This was 15 time he realized the importance of the tree. But all he could do was just to wait.

Wei Fang is twelve years old. She is a cute 1 . She 2 from Shanghai and she studies（学习）in No.5 High School. Wei Fang 3 at 6:30 in the morning. Then she has 4 with her parents. She would like milk and bread 5 breakfast. She goes to school at 7:30. Wei Fang is a clever and 6 girl. She can 7 English well. She often 8 her classmates with their lessons（功课）. All of her classmates like 9 very much. They are good 10 , and they help each other. 

Several years ago, I moved to Spain. I thought my Spanish would improve quickly. I gave up everything about the{#blank#}1{#/blank#}learning: classes, books, exercises and so on. I did nothing but speak o native(本国的)speakers. It was easy and fun!

However, about a year later, I noticed that my Spanish had hardly improved. I still spoke with {#blank#}2{#/blank#} grammar structures(结构)and sentence patterns as well as limited words(有限的词汇）. 

Sometimes I {#blank#}3{#/blank#}felt that my Spanish was getting worse. It made me upset. What was wrong? I wondered. 

I {#blank#}4{#/blank#} started to realize that because I didn't get training in other aspects(方面), I would not {#blank#}5{#/blank#} any progress as I liked. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} I started to go back to my old language learning {#blank#}7{#/blank#} , including reading books, watching movies and doing grammar and reading exercises. And they {#blank#}8{#/blank#} ! I quickly made progress. I could hold more difficult conversations. 

To learn the language, one should speak it first and then use it! That's the secret to {#blank#}9{#/blank#}and effective(有效的)language learning, right? Well, I know now, that if that's all you do, progress will come very fast. Considering the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} at which native speakers speak, you don't really have the time to learn new words or grammar structures. To learn a language more effectively, you need to spend some time on other trainings besides {#blank#}11{#/blank#}. 

I have always been big. I am comfortable with my body but there is a price to pay for being different. 

In primary school, I was crazy about gymnastics and was actually the team leader in my final year, but I had to make up for my shortcomings. Long after the other girls had left, I would still be in the school hall, trying my best to practice again and again without the coach around. It took months to master the ribbon(带子) and in the early days, I always got my ribbon in a terrible knot(结). However, I carried on and improved a lot. 

Whenever I went up in a competition, I always got the sense that the crowd did not expect much from an overweight child in front of them. They talked about my weight in low voices. One man even said, "That's the ugliest leotard(紧身衣) I've ever seen and the elephant inside it seems to be much better!" Hearing their words, you could understand my feelings. However, I just kept silent because I decided to let my ribbon do the talking. I worked harder on my ribbon and it showed. 

I was the winner in National Championship that year, but that was not the best thing I got from hours of tiring practice. The best thing was that my body cannot decide who I am. Society seems to believe that overweight people are unhappy with their weight and have low self-confidence, so they never count much. I do not believe that. I believe I can achieve anything because I am bigger than my body. 

I will always admire my father and his faith.

 As I held my father's hands one night, I couldn't help but notice their calluses(老茧) and roughness. His hands tell the story of his life as a 1 , including all his struggles.

 One summer, a drought(干旱) hit Ontario, turning it into a burning desert. On one of those hot 2 I was picking sweet córn with my dad to fill the last order from the grocery store(杂货店). Fifty dozen was all we needed, which 3 took twenty minutes. That morning, however, the work didn't go 4 . After forty minutes of aimlessly walking in the field, we still needed twenty dozen. I was completely impatient and angry. 5 the basket heavily, I said,"If the store wants its last twenty dozen, they can pick it themselves! " Dad laughed. "Just think, my little girl, only 6 dozen left for each of us and then we' re done. " Such is Dad— whatever problem he 7 , he never gives up.

8 , the bad effects of the drought were felt all over our county. It was a challenging time for everyone, but Dad remained optimistic(乐观的) . He 9 to be thankful for other things like good health and food on our plate. Only then did I truly 10 to admire Dad and his confidence that guided us through the hard times.

 Dad is also a living example of real 11 . From morning to evening, he works countless hours to 12 our family. He always puts our happiness 13 his own, and never fails to

cheer me on at my sports games no matter how tired he is after long days. His love and selfless nature have encouraged me to put 14 first.
