Ghosts of our loved ones

Many people think things like ghosts and death are scary. But in fact, we just had a festival celebrating these things.

Every year, on the 15th day of the seventh month in the Chinese lunar calendar, we celebrate Zhongyuan Festival, or Ghost Festival. It is on August 30th this year. On this day, families light lanterns to help dead people find their way home. But at the same time, living people don't want to stay out at night during Ghost Festival. They believe ghosts may hurt them.

Ghost Festival and Tomb-Sweeping Day, or Qingming Festival are both holidays that honor the dead. During Ghost Festival, the spirits of all dead people are honored. But we only honor our dead family members at Qingming. People believe the spirits of the dead would come back to Earth during Ghost Festival, but not during Qingming.

In Chinese culture, death is a scary and heavy thing. People are mostly afraid of it. But in some other cultures, death is a less gloomy（阴郁的） thing. 

In the US, people remember the dead on Halloween. But they make it a fun festival. People wear scary clothes. Children do fun things, like trick-or-treating.

In Mexico, the Day of the Dead is a time for the living to connect with the dead. They make dolls of the dead and tell stories about them. There are also parties at night. Whether you like it or not, death is apart of life. Understanding death can help us cherish(珍惜) our time here and live best lives.

 You get into bed after a long day and plan to spend a few minutes on your phone before sleeping. However, falling asleep isn't as easy as expected. What's wrong?

 According to a new study, your phone may be the problem. Researchers asked 85 kids aged 11 to 14 to wear body cameras for a week, starting from three hours before bedtime. A second camera was placed in their bedrooms to monitor their phone use in bed. The kids also wore a device(设备) to record their sleep.

 Researchers found that 99% of the kids used their phones in the two hours before bed, over half used their phones while in bed, and about a third used them after trying to sleep. The results showed that screen time in bed put off kids' sleep by about half an hour and cut down on their total sleep time.

The influence was larger when they played games or used more than one screen.

"While the science guidelines (指南) suggest no screen time in an hour or two before bed, keeping phones out of the bedroom might help you get a better night's sleep," said the lead researcher, Bradley Brosnan.

As students, you need to solve different kinds of moods(情绪) in your lives. Many of you once hid your moods in your minds. A study shows that when you're in a bad mood for a long time, things will become worse over time. So how can you solve your bad moods correctly?

Is it better to cry when you are in a bad mood? When you cry out loud, you can let out the bad feelings inside you. So why not try crying once in a while?

Self-care is an important part of making sure you are feeling best. The best way of doing that is to exercise. When you get your arms and shoulders move, you can reduce these bad moods. At the same time, your body will release hormones(释放荷尔蒙) and you will feel happier and better. 

As students, if you can pay more attention to your school subjects, you can finish your studies well, and then you may get good marks in some of the subjects. It makes you feel happy and relaxed. Finally, it can reduce your bad moods. 

Try to join in group activities(活动). They can help you a lot. For example, you can make more friends and even find out your hobbies in group activities too. 

If you learn to face your bad moods in the right way, you will be both physically and mentally(身体上和心理上) healthy.
