My uncle John used to live in a beautiful little house by the sea in Atlantic City. I say he "used to" live there 1 he doesn't live there any more. He was killed two years ago. He2living there before he died. He had $60 million in the bank.

    After Uncle John's death, I came to stay in his house for a while. I had been there for two days when I3a message on the screen of the old computer. I was very surprised, because I thought the computer had been4.he message said, "You have new5!" When I read it, I thought it looked like the6of a novel. "This looks interesting." I thought, "It must be7one of Uncle John's friends." I decided I should make an answer to the e-mail to tell him or her that Uncle John was8. However, the computer would not let me9.

    Every day for the next three weeks, more e-mails kept arriving. I printed10of all of them. The story was about Jane Winterbourne, a young writer working on her first novel. She sent her novel to Jack Tanner, an old writer and asked him to11her to publish it. However, he cheated her, and published the novel himself-pretending that he had12it. The novel was very13. Tanner made a lot of money, and bought himself a house by the sea in Atlantic City. It was then that I realized that "Jack Tanner" and "Jane Winterbourne" were14names. "Jack" was15 to be Uncle John.

    Last Saturday, Tony went to see Benny. But he didn't know1Benny lived. 2the way, he stopped in front of a yellow house, and asked an old woman the3to Benny's house. "His house is not far from my house, "said the woman." It's behind the trees. But you can't get there 4. You can go there by bus. It'll5you hours to get there6 foot. ""What's7with her?" Tony thought, "I can see Benny's house from here now. It's behind the8."

    Then Tony walked to the other side of the trees. He found the old woman was9. There was a river in front of him, and he couldn't see a boat. The house was on the other side of the10.

The homeless hero

    For many, finding an unattended (unnoticed) wallet filled with ￡400 in cash would be a source (来源) of temptation (诱惑). But the urge (strong desire) would no doubt be greater if you were living on the streets with little food and money. AU of this makes the actions of the homeless Tom Smith even more remarkable.

    After spotting (noticing) a 1 on the front seat inside a parked car with its window down, he stood guard in the rain for about two hours waiting for the 2 to return.

    After hours in the cold and wet, he 3 inside and pulled the wallet out hoping to find some ID so he could contact the driver, only to discover it contained ￡400 in notes, with another ￡50 in spare change beside it.

    He then took the wallet to a nearby police station after 4 a note behind to let the owner know it was safe. When the car's owner John Anderson and his colleague Carol Lawrence returned to the car—which was itself worth ￡35,000—in Glasgow city center, they were shocked to find two policemen standing next to it. The policemen told them what Mr. Smith did and that the wallet was 5.

    The pair were later able to thank Mr. Smith for his kindness.

    Mr. Anderson said, "I couldn't believe that the guy never took a penny. To think he is sleeping on the streets tonight 6 he could have stolen the money and paid for a place to stay in. This guy has nothing and yet he didn't take the wallet for himself. He thought about others 7. It's unbelievable. It just proves there are honest guys out there.”

    Mr. Smith's act drew much of the public's attention He also won praise from social media users after Mr. Anderson posted about the act of kindness on Facebook.

    Now Mr Anderson has set up an online activity to 8 money for Mr. Smith and other homeless people in the area, which by yesterday had received ￡8,000. "I think the faith that everyone has shown 9 him has touched him. People have been approaching (coining near to) him in the street He's had job offers and all sorts,” Mr. Anderson commented.

    For Mr. Smith, this is a possible life—changing 10. The story once again tells us that one good turn deserves another.

    A kind of little cars may some day take the place of today's cars. If everyone drives such cars in the future, there will be less pollution. There will also be more space for parking cars in cities, and the streets will be less crowded. Three such cars can fit in the space now needed for one car of the usual size.

    The little cars will cost much less to own and to drive. Driving will be safer too, as these little cars can go only 65 kilometres an hour. The cars of the future will be fine for getting around a city, but they will not be useful for long trips. Little cars will go 450 kilometres before needing to stop for more gas (汽油).

    If big cars are still used along with the small ones, two sets of roads will be needed in the future. Some roads will be used for the big, fast cars and other roads will be needed for the slower, small ones.
