A Bite of China

    No trip would be complete without experiencing the local food culture. Actually, China has various kinds of delicious food,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (include) a wide variety of local snacks (小吃).

    Without a doubt, for the majority of the foreigners I contacted, and myself included, Peking Duck, Dim Sum, Mongolian Hot Pot were the favorite Chinese {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (dish). China is a place{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the food is not only delicious, but the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (cheap) I've ever found.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}my last night in Beijing before returning to the States, I went to a Peking Duck restaurant that had been suggested for me to try. What a beautiful place! Splendid woodblock prints on the walls, fresh flowers in the vases on the table,{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (attract) silverware (镀银餐具) and beautiful chopsticks. I was handed {#blank#}7{#/blank#} menu and found most of the prices{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(be) especially low for the high quality of the food. The duck came in whole or half, along with all the little decorations that you know if you've ever eaten Peking duck—a little tortilla (玉米饼) to put the sliced duck and vegetables in chopped onion, sauce.

    Anyway, I ended up ordering a whole duck and thought I'd just take the rest back to my hotel{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(eat) later if I couldn't finish it. Unbelievably, in the end there was none of the whole duck{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(leave) on the plate. Umm, yummy!

    High-speed railways, electronic payments, shared bicycles and online shopping are China's four new ways of life. They are most appealing to youths from 20 countries participating {#blank#}1{#/blank#}the Belt and Road Initiative. The new four great inventions are all related to China's high-tech innovation,{#blank#}2{#/blank#}has improved the quality of people's lives, “My wallet is no longer in use. I can buy and eat whatever I want {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(simple) with a tap of my phone,” said Lin Jinlong, an overseas Chinese student from Cambodia,{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (add) that even pancake sellers are using Alipay (mobile payment).

    In {#blank#}5{#/blank#}word, China is leading in many ways. Bike sharing, for example, is not new itself. But China has made it much more convenient and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (enjoy) both in China and overseas. Leading Chinese bike-sharing {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(company) Mobike and Ofo are now operating in foreign countries such as Singapore and Britain. Users in the countries felt excited and {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(post) photos of themselves riding the Chinese bikes on social media. A growing number of foreigners hope {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (promote) economic development in {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (they) home countries by paying more attention to the achievements of China.

    Over the past years Starbucks coffee {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (become) a coffee chain store. The cafes don't sell coffee; they sell {#blank#}2{#/blank#} very atmosphere. They offer customers the perfect atmosphere {#blank#}3{#/blank#} which to take time out and relax. Every single store throughout the world is furnished in a romantic style and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (special) meant to be cozy, private and quiet: earth-toned (褐色调) space, fancy wall paper, lovely paintings, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(amaze) background and irresistible coffee smell… The most fantastic decoration style about Starbucks {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (design) with oversized chairs and table outside the store. When {#blank#}7{#/blank#} comes to a sunny afternoon, I love to take a seat outside, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (bathe) in the afternoon sunshine, and listening to the lovely music {#blank#}9{#/blank#} tasting the most terrific Cappuccino. This is exactly what I love in here—the Starbucks! This is the café I love not merely because of the café itself, but also because of the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (feel) it brings me.

    This weekend I was delighted to show my parents around Seville, as they {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(come) for a short but sweet visit. Although the weather wasn't the best, we still made {#blank#}2{#/blank#} best of our time together.

    Being reunited with the people you love in a new place {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(bring)such excitement. Showing them around the new city makes you {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(extraordinary)happy. For example, as Seville is known for flamenco(弗拉门科舞), I took them to see a famous {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(perform)my friends recommended to me, which gave us such a wonderful visual feast. Furthermore, getting to show your visitors the places {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(appeal)to you is a pleasant feeling, because you are eager to let them know where you love to spend your time. You are letting them get involved {#blank#}7{#/blank#} your new life. Also you have the opportunity {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(show) your loved ones the new places that they may fall in love with.

    So, after a two-day trip, I feel pleased to have had the time to explore those {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(attraction) with my parents. I am already looking forward to their next visit {#blank#}10{#/blank#}I can show them more of what Seville offers and what I am still yet to discover.

    My classmates and I had a really unforgettable experience，which made us very happy. We paid a visit {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Lucy's house yesterday. We didn't have difficulty finding her house because she {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (give) us clear directions. When we arrived at her house, her mother was preparing food for us. Then we began to help with the cooking. About an hour later, the food was ready, and we sat at the table enjoying the delicious food including fish and {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (vegetable). Finally we went to Ann's room where we watched our favourite TV programme together. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (decorate) with flowers and balloons, the room was warm and comfortable.

    Ahead of this year's London Book Fair in March, media reported a rise in interest in translated works among British readers. For translator Anna Holmwood, this signals the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (arrive) of a new era.

    "This is a big moment for Chinese fiction abroad," says Holmwood, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} has translated Chinese literature for almost a decade.

    Her translation work, Legends of the Condor Heroes, a fantasy novel written by Jin Yong, and Liu Cixin's science-fiction book, The Three Body Problem, are shown in a Nielsen report {#blank#}3{#/blank#} examples of two of the most popular Chinese fiction works in Britain in 2018.

    "Languages in growing demand include Chinese and Arabic." according to the Nielsen report. It found that, against the commonly {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (see) "not more than 3 percent rule" of translated literature's presence in the English-language book markets, the number for 2018 was 5.63 percent in Britain {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the total annual sales was worth $27.1 million.

    Charlotte Collins, translator and co-chair of the British Translators Association, says: "As we can see, this proportion (比率) {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (double) in recent years... This is {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (real) exciting news."

    The Guardian quotes (引用) Fiammetta Rocco, administrator of the Man Booker International Prize, "{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (read) fiction is one of the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (good) ways of putting ourselves in other people's shoes. The rise in sales of translated fiction {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (show) how hungry British readers are for terrific writing from other countries."
