Can you imagine yourself {#blank#}1{#/blank#} （work） on a project alone in office, and no one out there to support and assist you? Definitely not! We all love to be a part of a team and do things through teamwork. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}just makes life easier.

    Teamwork can {#blank#}3{#/blank#}( explain) as an activity or a set of inter-related activities done by more than one person {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(meet) a common goal. Teamwork is not only followed in the corporate world today, rather it is one of the {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(old) things known to man. Mankind has worked in teams and groups since the primitive days of civilization. Hunting in groups {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(be) a suitable example of teamwork during those days. It is only in recent times {#blank#}7{#/blank#}it has been developed as a “concept” in the management jargon（术语）.

    Working as a team can benefit you as an individual, as a team, as well as an {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(organize). For some people, initially, it might be a bit difficult to adjust in a group, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}I am sure, they will gradually learn to adjust and work as a team. Effective teamwork motivates an individual to grow into a responsible citizen, and accomplish individual as well {#blank#}10{#/blank#}organizational goals.

Using Garbage as a Fuel

    Garbage can be a good fuel to use. The things in garbage do not look {#blank#}1{#/blank#}coal, petroleum, or natural gas, but they are chemically similar to these fossil fuels. As we use up our fossil fuel supplies, we might be able to use garbage as {#blank#}2{#/blank#}energy source. Burning garbage {#blank#}3{#/blank#}( be) not a new idea. Some cities in Europe and the United States {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(burn) garbage for years. The heat that is produced by burning garbage is used to boil water. The steam that is produced is used to make electricity or to heat nearby {#blank#}5{#/blank#}( build). In Paris, France, some power plants burn almost 2 million metric tons of the city's garbage each year. The amount of energy {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(produce) is about the same as would be produced by burning almost a half million barrels of oil!

    But there are problems in using garbage as a fuel. Garbage that burns {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(easy) , such as food and paper, must be separated from metals, glass, and other materials {#blank#}8{#/blank#}do not. Another problem is that burning garbage can pollute the air. Our fossil fuel supplies are {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(limit) . Burning garbage might be one kind of energy source that we can use to help meet our energy needs. This method could also reduce the amount of garbage {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(pile) up on the earth.

    Keeping in touch with our friends is an important part of friendship. This does not mean that {#blank#}1{#/blank#} have to write or call our friends every day. It does mean, however, that we {#blank#}2{#/blank#} care enough about our friends to find out how they are doing from time to time.

    People have different habits about keeping in touch with others. Some like to call their friends, sometimes many times {#blank#}3{#/blank#}day. Others prefer to e-mail their friends. Still {#blank#}4{#/blank#} prefer writing letters so that they can include photos or interesting articles {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the envelopes along with their letters. Some even write postcards while they are on vacation {#blank#}6{#/blank#}send them to friends.

    Every kind of communication is important. It is {#blank#}7{#/blank#}important what kind of call we make or letter we send.{#blank#}8{#/blank#}is important is that we let others know we care about them.

    Humans like to live and work in groups. Language is the “cement(胶合剂)”{#blank#}1{#/blank#}holds these groups together. Language is part of culture. Culture, in this sense,{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (mean) all those customs, skills, and attitudes that are part of the behavior of a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (particularly) group. What you think {#blank#}4{#/blank#} what you want in life are all affected by the culture of the group in which you {#blank#}5{#/blank#}( raise). Groups of people live in different ways. They may have different skills, organizations, and art forms. Their family life may be completely different from yours.

    Human beings are inventive animals. They can decide to change their cultures in order to meet various {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(situation). Of all living things, human beings are the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(clever). They can choose {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(live) in many environments and in a wide variety of ways. Only human beings can choose where and how they want to live and then improve the physical environment to help {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(they)realize these choices.

    Acquiring the wisdom to make wise choices {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (be)the lasting challenge of being human.

    It was a windy night. I had just turned {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the TV, brushed my teeth and was reading my favorite book, Wuthering Heights (呼啸山庄)by Emily Bronte. I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (absorb) in the book when Cathy's ghost(幽灵) appeared.

    As I looked through my book, some strange noises were coming from the window. I walked towards the window {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (see) what was going on there. All I observed were {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (branch) of trees waving wildly. All of {#blank#}5{#/blank#} sudden, I heard the noises again. They sounded like someone was knocking at the window. But I knew that was {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (possible) because my room is on the second floor of the house.

    My heart was beating {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (violent) as I quickly opened the window. At that moment, a cold, white hand caught my arm {#blank#}8{#/blank#} tried to pull me out of the window. I screamed and tried to free {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (I) but in vain.

    Suddenly, I heard a gentle voice saying, “Tommy, wake up.” Then, I opened my eyes and saw my mother was standing by my bed, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (hold) my book in her hand. I was so glad that Cathy's ghost hadn't been real!
