My hobby is playing chess — one of the greatest games in the world. My mum taught me how to play 

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}I was seven years old. She  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(beat) me every time for the first year. But the next year,  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}my eighth birthday, I won for the first time. Now I am always the winner between  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(we).

It only takes about a day  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(learn) the rules. But if you want to play well, you have to practise for several  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(year). You don't need much to play chess —just a chessboard and someone to play with. Chessboards can be very cheap, or quite expensive. Some people collect chessboards as a hobby, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} I prefer to play.

There is a chess club in our school. We meet in the club every week to play chess. I am  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}best player in the club, and the captain of the chess team at school. This year we won the All England Schools' Championship. It made us so  {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (excite) and happy.

I'm saving to buy a computer. It's   {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(true) good for me to practise on it. Then I'll always have someone to play with, and I'm sure I'll become better at it.

My name is Kevin. I'm a 13-year-old student from 1 middle school in Shang hai. In the past, I had some bad habits. I hardly had breakfast 2 I usually got up late. I didn't like exercising. In the evening, I always 3 TV for more than two hours. I liked to spend lots of hours playing different computer 4 . So I often stayed up late. My parents thought it was bad for my health, so they were worried about 5 .

One day, I didn't feel well in a P. E. class. Then I went to the hospital. The doctor said that I was in poor health. 6 bad the news was! Then he told me 7 breakfast every day and do more exercise. 

After that, I decided to have good habits 8 . Now I usually get up early. After school, I always play sports 9 my friends. It is fun and I have become much 10 than before. I know the importance of health. 

Last Saturday, I borrowed a camera from my friend Lisa. However, I was so excited that I dropped it on the floor by mistake and it was broken. Oh no! It was the birthday gift from her grandmother. I was worried that she would be a{#blank#}1{#/blank#} with me, so I didn't tell her the t{#blank#}2{#/blank#} at last. But one day, she told me she had already known that, and she said it would be all right. I felt so a{#blank#}3{#/blank#} that I could hardly say a word. At that moment, I really r{#blank#}4{#/blank#} not saying sorry to her in time. I treated her with dishonesty, but she wasn't mad at me. I{#blank#}5{#/blank#}, she smiled and gave me a hug. Since then, I have learned an important lesson: Honesty is valued. So I just keep it in my mind and it's surprising that I have a closer relationship with Lisa than before.

 The summer holiday is over. It's true that time always flies fast. During the holiday, the weather was hot and I could not do much work, but I lived happily. 

 As the afternoon was hot, I did my work in the morning. I used to get up at 6:30 and take a walk in the garden for half an hour. After breakfast, I began reading English and Chinese and worked on some maths problems. These took me three hours or more. I worked quite hard and made good progress(进步). 

I spent the afternoon outside. I went to swim and it was fun. I would not go home until it was about five or six o' clock. Sometimes a friend of mine would come to see me and we would spend some hours listening to music. 

 In this way I spent my holiday happily. And I not only made up some of my lessons, but also became a good swimmer. Now I am in good health and high spirits. 

When my children were young, I used to read to them every evening before bed. One of their favorite stories was called Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch. Mr. Hatch lived a 1 life. He walked alone to work every day and ate his lunch alone in a corner. He never 2 . He never talked to anyone on his way home. In the evening, he never visited friends and he would read a newspaper and go to bed3 .

His life changed, however, on Valentine's Day when he got a heart- shaped box full of 4 in the mail, along with a note that said, " Somebody loves you. Hope you like the chocolate. " At  first, he couldn't believe it, but when he let the message understood, he began to laugh and dance  around. That message opened his heart to the power of love. Soon he found himself being cheerful. He became a joy at work and began to 5  people in the neighborhood. As the days and weeks went by, his laughter, smiles, kindness, happiness and love6 everyone in his community. 

 Later, Mr. Hatch found out that the heart- shaped box had been delivered to him by7 . He felt8 and went back to his old ways. When his neighbors found out, however, they decided not to lose the light he shared. They 9 him with a party and a huge banner(条幅) that read: " Everybody Loves Mr. Hatch. " Mr. Hatch cried when he realized that somebody loved him after all. Then he laughed, smiled and hugged with his friends. 

Sometimes we all feel unloved and unlovable. However, somebody does love us. May the pages of your life story be full of 10 .

Early in May, a man took me to a new home at Birtwick Park. The owner called mc"Black Beauty". Here I met my friend, another horse, Ginger. One day, my owner decided to visit some friends. His groom(马夫), James, drove him.

 As evening fell, we stopped at a large hotel. A stableman brought us into the stable(马厩) and two grooms looked after us. One groom, Towler, had a pipc(烟斗) in his mouth.

"Towler, get these horses something to eat. Put your pipe down first!" said the stableman.

"All right," said Towler.

 At night, I felt uncomfortable and woke up. Ginger was coughing. It was dark, and I could see nothing.____ . It was full of smoke(烟) and hard to breathe. I was very afraid.

 The stableman came in and wanted to lead the horses out but they were in fear. Then he tried to pull me out, but I did not want to go. Finally, he left the stable alone.

Certainly, we were very silly, but danger seemed to be all round and there was nobody we could trust. All was strange and unsure.

"Black Beauty, come with me!" James ran to me and said. He always gave us hope. His voice made me calm(镇静的). He put his scarf over my eyes and led me out of the stable. Then, he ran back inside. I shouted at him worriedly when I saw him go. Ginger told me later that she heard my voice and became brave enough to come out. Then I saw James coming out with Ginger.

 The next morning, we felt sad when hearing that two horses died in the stable. Towler was responsible(担责任的) for the fire. The night before,a man saw him in the stable with a pipe in his mouth. At Birtwick Park, the rule was"no pipes in the stable" and it was a very good rule.
