Teachers in some secondary schools in Britain are worried that their job may become impossible shortly unless something can be done to restore discipline in the classrooms. In the problem schools, mostly in large cities, a small minority of teenage pupils disturb lesson to such an extent that the teacher can no longer teach their classes effectively.

Small children who are continuously encouraged to express themselves without reservation are naturally unwilling to accept school discipline when they grow older.     Perhaps the problem can be solved by improving facilities for the moral guidance of these difficult children or by better cooperation between the schools and the parents—for the parents may be mainly responsible for the bad behavior of their youngsters. Violence at home, violence and crime on TV make some children turn violence themselves.

    But some of the teachers believe that there ought to be a return to more “old fashioned” methods. At present, in some school teachers are even not allowed to punish a child who does something bad and wrong. Physical punishment is not permitted now. People are too soft on children these days. It seems that children can do whatever they like at school while the teachers can't do anything to punish them. I don't know why the schools authority abandoned some of the effective punishments that worked well. Things like that didn't happen when we were at school because the teachers kept those problem students under control by using a stick.

    My first week in the United States was a cultural shock. Everything felt new to me, including the style of conversation, the community I lived in and even the type of food people ate.

    In our community back home, people eat mutton and chicken. Pork and beef are also common among other communities, but eating beef is taken as an illegal act. Unlike Nepal, eating beef is common in the West where most of the people follow religions other than Hinduism.

    Food is just an example. When people move from one part of the world to another, they should adapt（适应）themselves to the new culture. For example, going to the bars or getting drunk is not acceptable in my community, but it is common in the US after a certain age.

    I was raised in a traditional Hindu family in Nepal. We have a conservative（保守的，谨慎的）opinion towards marriage. Arranged marriages（包办婚姻）are common in which families decide whether the two should get married. Free love marriages are not allowed and are seldom seen. Same-sex marriage is also considered impossible.

    To me, culture is a matter of habit. The culture is so deep-rooted in people's minds that most people are against changes. It is always easy for them to do what they have been doing throughout their life. It may be difficult for anyone to adapt to a new culture.

    However, with travel being an unavoidable thing for modern people, one always comes across different cultures. In such cases, one should be respectful and adaptive to the culture other people follow. The world is always a better place to live in when we have spaces for people of all cultures.

    The market watchdog(市场监督部门) in northwest China's Xi'an has started a survey into a complaint that a woman's newly bought Mercedes-Benz car has engine oil leaks(漏). The incident has attracted wide attention after a video of a woman sitting on top of a Mercedes-Benz while weeping and arguing with salesmen went viral online. In the video posted on Weibo by a net friend on April 11, the woman said she found an oil leak when she was driving the car home from the 4S store. After she drove the car back, the trader claimed the car had passed all tests before it was sold. She was told she couldn't get her money back nor change a new car for her. All that the trader could offer was to change the engine. The CLS300 car cost around 660,000 yuan($98,445).

    The customer met with officials from the market watchdog of Gaoxin District on Saturday, requesting a full maintenance(维修) history of the car and an independent test by a third-party, Shaanxi TV Station reported.

    Mercedes-Benz issued an announcement on its Weibo account on Saturday, saying it was sorry for the customer's "unpleasant experience". The company has sent a team to Van to help solve the issue.
