Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday. The day after it has been known as Black Friday. It is the start of the holiday shopping season, and it has been the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} shopping day of the year in the US since 2005.

    Most stores offer big sales on Black Friday. They open their doors quite early in the morning. They try to {#blank#}2{#/blank#} shoppers with big discounts(折扣). Some items like TVs and cloths are much cheaper than usual. Stores may {#blank#}3{#/blank#}lose money on them. They hope that shoppers will buy gifts for other people while they are in the store.

    Black Friday is a great time to go shopping. However, there are problems. The biggest one is that there are not enough cheap items. Each store may only have a few. These items are in great need, so people stand in long lines to get them. They may wait three to four hours before a store opens. They may be hoping to get a low{#blank#}4{#/blank#} on a TV or computer, but not everybody can get one. Some people leave, disappointed.

A: Hey, Paul! Over here! Don't you remember me?

B: Oh, Tina! What a surprise to see you here!

A: That's right. I haven't seen you for {#blank#}1{#/blank#} two years. Where have you been these two years?

B: I have been on the city basketball team and have been busy {#blank#}2{#/blank#} I'm o on vacation here this week. What do you do now?

A: I am a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} in a band.

B: Really? You used to be {#blank#}4{#/blank#} in front of people, didn't you?

A: Yeah, but now I am very outgoing.

B: Wow! People surely change. How many members are there in your band?

A: There are four, three boys and one girl. We are going to give two {#blank#}5{#/blank#} at Screen City this Saturday. Would you like to come?

B: Sure, I'd like to.

Mr. Green {#blank#}1{#/blank#} be at home now. He went abroad on vacation last Friday.

    Peter kept his eyes on the ground. He felt lime there was a heavy weight on his shoulders as he walked home alone. It was worst day of his life. His mind would not stop {#blank#}1{#/blank#} about what happened just an hour ago on the school soccer field. How could he have missed scoring that goal? He had let his whole team {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. His stupid mistake made him angry. His team had lost the game because of him. He was really worried that his coach might kick him off the team.

    As soon as he walked through the door, his father asked." what's wrong, son?"

    Peter's feelings were written all over his face. "I lost the game. Peter replied."

    Then he went into his room{#blank#}3{#/blank#}another word. Ten minutes later. Peter heard his father knocking on his bedroom door. He opened the door to let him in.

    "Look, Peter. I don't know what happened. But{#blank#}4{#/blank#}it was, don't be too hard on yourself" "I lost the game. I failed my team. They'll probably never let me play again"" Soccer is about team work. You're not the only reason your team lost.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} you have a good team, you should support each other. Besides, winning or losing is only half the game. The other half is learning how to communicate with your teammates and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} from your mistakes. Peter didn't say anything, but what his father said made him think carefully.

    The next day, Peter went to soccer practice with courage rather than fear in his heart. "Hey, guys." he said to his teammates. I'm really sorry about yesterday. We were so close to winning that game. But I think if we continue to{#blank#}7{#/blank#} together we're going to win the next one. "To his surprise and relief, his teammates all{#blank#}8{#/blank#}in agreement." Yeah," they said, "Don't worry about it.

    It's never just one Person's fault. We should think about{#blank#}9{#/blank#}we can do better next time. Peter {#blank#}10{#/blank#}made him feel lucky to know that he was on a winning team.

    One day I was reading the newspaper when I noticed a photo of a young woman who looked a lot like Mary and whose last name was Lee— Mary's {#blank#}1{#/blank#} name. "There must be thousands of Lee," I thought, but I wrote to her anyway.

    She called as soon as she got my letter. "Mrs. Tobin!" she said in a(n) {#blank#}2{#/blank#} voice. "I haven't heard from you for years!" Minutes later I heard a voice that I recognized {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, even after 40 years. We laughed and cried and caught on each other's lives.

    Now the empty place in my heart is {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. And there's one thing that Mary and I know for sure: We won't lose each other again!
