A: Is this your coat, Jack?

B: Yes. It's my coat.

A: Are these your gloves?

B: No. They are Anne's gloves.

A: Is this your dress?

B: No. It's Lucy's.

A: Are these your shorts?

B: No. They are Tom's shorts.

A: Is this your T-­shirt?

B: No. It's Amy's T-­shirt.

    This is Jim's bedroom. It's new and nice. A bed and a chair are in it. A desk is on the floor. Some flowers are on it. A bookshelf is behind the bed. Some English books are on the bookshelf. A picture is on the wall. Some people are in the picture. The man is his father. The woman is his mother, who is the boy? Do you know?

    One day, a monkey was looking for food. He came to a fence. There were a lot of big peaches inside the fence. He tried to get inside. But he failed. At last, he found a hole in the fence. But the hole was too small for him to go through.

    "What should I do?" the monkey thought. He wandered around the fence.

    Day after day, the monkey became thinner and thinner. At last, he could get through the fence.

    He ate a lot of peaches. He became fatter and fatter.

    He wanted to go outside, but the hole was too small for him. He couldn't eat anymore! He waited and waited. Eventually, he became thin enough to go out.

Hans Christian Andersen

    Hans Christian Andersen was a great writer.  He wrote many famous fairy tales for children all over the world.

    Andersen was born in 1805. When he was a little boy, his father read him a story every day. His father died when he was 11. He had to leave school and started working. He loved reading books very much, so he went back to school at 17. His first book came out in 1835. From then on, he wrote about one book a year for 37 years. Some of his famous fairy tales are The Emperor's New, Clothes and The Ugly Duckling. He died in 1875.

    Many children enjoy reading because of him.

    One day, Mark Twain went to a small town to give a lecture (讲座). At lunch he met a young man. The young man told him that he had an uncle. His uncle never laughed or smiled. Nobody and nothing could make his uncle smile or laugh. "You bring your uncle to my lecture tonight," said Mark Twain. "I'm sure I can make him laugh." That evening the young man and his uncle sat in the first row. Mark Twain spoke directly (直接地) at the old man. He told some funny stories. But the old man never even smiled. Mark Twain told the funniest story he knew. But the old man didn't still smile. At last Mark Twain stopped. He felt very tired and disappointed (失望的). Some days later, Mark Twain told one of his friends about what had happened. "Oh," said his friend. "I know that old man. He is deaf."
