When I was a kid, Mom used to cook food for us. One night after {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(spend) a long hard day at work, Mom placed a plate of bread jam and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (extreme) burnt toast in front of my dad, I was waiting {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (see) if he noticed it. However, while eating his toast. Dad just asked me {#blank#}4{#/blank#} my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night,{#blank#}5{#/blank#}I do remember I heard Mom apologizing to Dad for burning the toast. I'll never forget what Dad said, “Honey, I love burnt toast.”

    Later that night, I {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (go) to kiss Daddy good night and asked him if he really liked his toast burned. He gave me {#blank#}7{#/blank#}big hug and said, “Your mamma put in a long hard day at work today, really {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (tire). Besides, a burnt toast never hurts but cold words do!”

What I've learned over the years {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (be) that learning to accept each other's faults is one of the most important {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(key) to creating a healthy, growing and lasting relationship.

    One night, Mrs Riley,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} elderly woman was walking along a dark, London street. She was carrying her handbag in one hand and a plastic carrier bag in the other.     The youths waited for a few moments, and then ran quickly and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (quiet) towards Mrs Riley. The tall youth held her from behind while the other youth tried {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(seize) her handbag.

    Suddenly, Mrs. Riley {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(throw) the tall youth over her shoulder. She crashed into the other youth and they both landed on the ground. Without {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(speak), Mrs. Riley struck both of them on the head with her handbag, and walked calmly away.

    The two{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(surprise) youths were still sitting on the ground when Mrs. Riley crossed the street towards a door, above {#blank#}9{#/blank#}there was a lighted sign. Mrs. Riley paused, turned round, smiled at the youths and walked {#blank#}10{#/blank#}the South West London Judo(柔道) Club.

The Best Book I've Ever Read

    Frankly, I have read nearly all of the great works of literature, but no book has ever impressed me as deeply or directly {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Joel Stein's Man Made: A Stupid Quest for Masendinity.

    Haven't we all, on some level, been Jewish boys in New Jersey in {#blank#}2{#/blank#} 1970s with only female friends, an Easy-Bake oven and a strong preference for show tunes? Haven't we all had a panic attack {#blank#}3{#/blank#} learning we're going to have a son, since that means we're going to have to figure out how to throw footballs, watch other people throw footballs and decide {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to be happy or sad about the results of football throwing? Haven't we all then tried to correct our lack of maleness by becoming a man, fighting fires with firefighters, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (drive) a Lamborghini and doing three days of Army training camp? I know I have.

    The only parts I didn't fully enjoy were {#blank#}6{#/blank#} in which the author suffered horribly. After just three hours of training camp, he fainted weakly into the arms of a soldier. The film rights to Man Made have already been sold to Fox, and I hope it gets {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (turn) into a movie with George Clooney playing the Stein role, since they remind me so much of each other.

    {#blank#}8{#/blank#} this is only Stein's first book, I would already consider him as someone like David Sedaris, Dave Barry, James Thurber, Mark Twain and Abraham Lincoln. I {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (recommend) Man Made not just to all my friends and family but also to strangers on Twitter over and over again. My one fear is {#blank#}10{#/blank#} after this great achievement, Stein will lose his ability to be a cruel critic of our shallow times.

Emma was on her way home when she heard a sudden scream. Looking around, she saw a little boy on the sidewalk gasping(急喘) for air, his {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(frighten) mother begging for help. Emma rushed to the boy, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} face had turned purple. "What's wrong?" "A candy! In his throat!" It was lucky that Emma had learned how {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(perform) the Heimlich maneuver(海姆利克急救法) at school. She acted quickly. Soon, the boy coughed up a piece of candy and began breathing again. He {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(save) in time.
