Being a veterinarian(兽医), I had to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their boy Shane, loved Belker very much.

    I examined Belker and found him {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (die) of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do {#blank#}2{#/blank#} for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia(安乐死) procedure in their home.

    As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought  {#blank#}3{#/blank#} would be good for six-year-old Shane to watch. They felt Shane might learn something.

    The next day, Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting(拍) the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood {#blank#}4{#/blank#} was happening. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (peaceful) away.

    The little boy seemed to accept it without any difficulty. We sat together after Belker's death, {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(wonder) why animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, having listened quietly, said, “I know {#blank#}7{#/blank#}.”

    {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (surprise), we all turned to him. What he said next amazed me. It has changed my life.

    He said, “People are born so that they can learn how to live {#blank#}9{#/blank#} good life—like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?”

    The six-year-old boy continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} they don't have to stay as long.”

    In London, there are many so-called pop-up shops(品牌游击店). Why they get such a name is that they are just temporary {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(arrange).

    Pop-up shops first appeared in the UK in {#blank#}2{#/blank#} early 2000s. They wereoriginally a way for small companies to rent small space in great locations. In 2008，many businesses had to shut down. Shops and some offices {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(leave) empty when people stopped {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(run) them. Smart businessmen occupied some of them quickly because they could start a business with much {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(low) risk. The temporary nature of a pop-up {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(real) gave them the opportunity {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(test) a product and develop a customer base. Being small made {#blank#}8{#/blank#} easier for pop-ups to expand if they were successful.

    Pop-up shops can take many different forms. They might be temporary shops in the high street or a shopping centre. They might be simple market stalls. According to a 2014 report made by the Centre of Economic and Business Research, the pop-up industry was worth £2.1 billion and it is expected to grow {#blank#}9{#/blank#} 8.4% this year.

    Almost anything {#blank#}10{#/blank#} can be on a high street can also be a pop-up. In an age of fast changing habits, the pop-up idea might be here to stay.

    The Mid-Autumn festival is a harvest festival {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (celebrate) on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. It celebrates three fundamental concepts, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} are closely tied to one another: gathering, such as family and friends {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (come) together, or harvesting crops for the festival; Thanksgiving, to give thanks for the harvest, or for harmonious unions; praying {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (sincere) for beauty, longevity, babies, marriage {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (partner) or for a good future.

    The festival was a time when people enjoyed the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (success) reaping（收获）of rice and wheat with food offerings made in honor of the moon. Today, people still mark {#blank#}9{#/blank#}occasion with similar activities. They have outdoor reunions among friends and relatives to eat mooncakes and watch the moon, a symbol of {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (harmonious) and unity.

    English is a language {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (speak) all around the world. There are more than 42 countries {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the majority (大多数) of the people speak English. Most native speakers of English {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (find) in the UK, the US, Canada, and many other countries. In total, for more than 375 million people English is their mother tongue. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} equal number of people learn English as a second language.     Yu Rong, a Chinese artist, thinks of a new way to introduce {#blank#}1{#/blank#} ancient story of Hua Mulan in her picture book. In the book, I Am Hua Mulan, she tells the story by{#blank#}2{#/blank#}（combine） paper﹣cutting with international artistic styles. She places Shaanxi paper﹣cuts over western﹣style pencil sketches（素描）{#blank#}3{#/blank#}（create） a typical presentation of Chinese elements （元素）,which turns out to be a {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（success） and impressive breakthrough.

    Hua Mulan,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} story has been told by generations in China, is a fighter from the Northern Wei Dynasty（386﹣534）. As a devoted daughter, she dressed herself as a man to serve in the army{#blank#}6{#/blank#}place of her father. Mulan's characteristics, such as courage, kindness and a disinterested attitude toward fame and fortune, made{#blank#}7{#/blank#} （she） one of the most respected historical Chinese heroines. Mulan's story has been adapted{#blank#}8{#/blank#}（frequent） in modern media, including TV shows, video games and literature. For example, in 1998, Disney produced a film named Mulan, which {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（consider） a great success by critics and the public.

    To better tell the story, Yu Rong takes inspiration from her several {#blank#}10{#/blank#}（visit） to sites of ancient battles and Henan province's Yuju Opera. After years of preparation she finally makes this extraordinary work.
