阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I grew up in a small town where the primary school was a 10-minute walk from my house and children could go home for lunch and find their mothers waiting. At the time, I did not consider this a luxury (奢侈品), although today it certainly would be. I took it for granted that mothers were the sandwich-makers, the finger-painting appreciations and the homework monitors.

I never questioned that this ambitious, intelligent woman, who had had a career before I was born and would eventually return to a career, would spend almost every lunch hour throughout my primary school years just with me. I only knew that when the noon bell rang, I would race breathlessly home. My mother would be standing at the top of the stairs, smiling down at me with a look that suggested I was the only important thing she had on her mind.

One lunchtime, when I was in the third grade, would stay with me always. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had patiently rehearsed (排练)my lines with me. But no matter how easily I acted them at home, as soon as I stepped on stage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator's part (旁白)to the play, and asked me to switch roles. Her words, while kindly delivered, still stung (刺痛),especially when I saw my part go to another girl. I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my unease, and instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.

It was a lovely spring day and under the huge trees, we could see yellow dandelions (蒲公英) popping through the grass in bunches. I watched my mother bend down and pull a blossom up by its roots. She turned to me and said: "I think I'm going to dig up all these weeds. Then we'll have only roses in this garden." "But I like dandelions," I protested. "All flowers are beautiful-even dandelions." My mother looked at me seriously. "Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn't it?" She asked thoughtfully. "And that is true of people too," she added, "Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that. Now, let's go inside and talk about the lines."

注意:1)所续写短文的词数应为150词左右;

2()续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。

Just a few minutes before the play, my teacher came over to me.

……

After the play, I took the flower home.

短文续写

Dad pushed his finger into my basket. “What's that?”he asked. “Mew, ”said the basket.

Dad suddenly pulled his hand away. “Oh no,” he said. “Not a cat. No way. ”

I pulled Checkers from the basket. “It's not a cat. It's a kitten. Can I keep him? Please?”

Dad frowned for a minute, thinking. Then he rubbed Checkers under the chin(下巴). “You'll have to take good care of him. ”

I hugged Checkers. “I will, “I promised, he won't be any trouble at all.” And Checkers wasn't—until he grew into a cat. He wanted to be the first one in the house- and the first one out of the house. Sometimes he blocked dad in the way. “That cat!”Dad complained. Checkers climbed onto our roof. He had no trouble getting down. Usually he aimed for Dad. “That cat!” Dad yelled. Checkers flushed the toilet and watched the water circle away. “That cat!”Dad was almost mad. Checkers hid in strange places. He liked to surprise people.

One day he hid under the couch(睡椅). Dad walked by with a glass of orange juice. Checkers jumped out. He curled around Dad's ankle and attacked Dad's toes. Orange juice spilt all over the floor. Dad yelled and put Checkers outside. “Get out of my way, cat!” he said angrily. And he slammed the door.

Dad washed the injured toes and peeled open a bandage. He wrapped it around his big toe, and then he opened four more for his ankle.

I watched from the window. Checkers looked frustrated as he walked down the road.

“I'm sorry Checkers scratched you, ”I said. “He was just playing. He didn't mean to hurt you.”

“Don't worry, ”said Dad. “That cat will be back. ”

After supper I called for Checkers. But Checkers didn't come. Nighttime came. I called and called. I knocked his food dish with a spoon loudly. But still no Checkers. I left the porch light on. But the next morning Checkers still wasn't there.

I carried a picture of Checkers to all the neighbors. I drew posters and hung them all over. But nobody found Checkers.

Days went by. Life wasn't the same without that cat. I was angry with Dad. I didn't think he missed Checkers at all.

Then one night the phone rang.

Dad nodded, his face turning red.

 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

After a very meaningful conversation with my dad about the old days, we came up with an object that we both remembered clearly. It was my first bicycle. My mind told me I got it when I was seven, who was cheated to ride it for fifty yards alone the first time I tried!

My dad put together all the small pieces of the bicycle from a beautiful material that he called, "Your own car." Of course I knew he had some magical ability, but I didn't think he could make such an awesome object. He added the seat and the pedals (脚踏板) so that I would not have any problems. My dad recalled the bicycle was the smallest he could find while I remember how huge it was. I was so afraid of it and there was no way that I was going to control that monster-sized material. The bicycle was left in my backyard as a decoration for a month because I refused to ride it. Honestly, I was scared to try it.

After a month, my dad gave me a lecture to teach me what being a man was all about. I was finally determined to try it. My dad was proud of me and I felt very manly. He and I went to the park to see what we could do there. The park was empty when we arrived. I had no doubt that my dad told everybody not to be there because we had to use it. I felt sorry for other people, but I was proud to have such an capable person as my dad. We found a smooth and open space. My dad was holding the back part of the seat to make sure I didn't fell. He promised me that I was not going to fall because he would be running right behind, holding the bicycle.

注意:1. 续写词数应为 150 左右:2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

I started to pedal and the bicycle moved.

……

I turned around and found my dad was not behind.

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I sat at the breakfast table with my four-year-old son, Matthew, trying to ignore the ache in my stomach. "Mama, want to play?" "Not today, baby." I shook my head. These days I could barely get out of bed. I was still recovering from an operation. I hoped for strength and happiness, but the future seemed so hopeless.

Suddenly, Matthew jumped up from his spot on the kitchen floor. "Bird!" he shouted, rushing to our courtyard. Sure enough, there was a white dove seated in a rubber tree (橡胶树). It sat there for a few moments, and then flew away. Strange, I'd never seen one in our neighborhood before.

When I dragged myself to the kitchen the next morning, the dove was back. This time it was with a mate carrying sticks. "Look Matthew," I said, pointing to the tree. "They're going to make a nest." The doves flew in and out of the courtyard all week, building on top of the rubber tree.

Matthew could hardly contain his excitement. Every morning, he'd run into the kitchen and take his spot by the sliding glass door (滑动玻璃门), talking to the birds while they worked. His happiness was influential. As much as I was sad, I couldn't help but look forward to the doves' visits too.

Then it all went wrong. The courtyard was a safe enough spot for a nest, but the rubber tree's broad, thin leaves were far from stable. One night, a strong wind blew, throwing the doves' nest to the ground. I heard the twigs (细枝) break apart.

I surveyed the damage. Nothing good ever lasted. I wouldn't blame the doves if they never came back. But they returned. And they paid no attention to the pile of sticks that had once been their nest. They started again from the beginning. Again, though, the wind destroyed all their hard work. The next day, and the next, they started again, as if nothing had happened.
