Dragon Boat Festival, also called Duanwu Festival, is a traditional holiday, which {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (observe) each year over 2,000 years in China to honor Qu Yuan, an ancient Chinese patriotic（爱国的）poet. Originating from south China, Dragon Boat Festival enjoys higher{#blank#}2{#/blank#}popular) in southern areas, such as Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Guangdong Provinces. With a history over 2,000 years, it used to be a day{#blank#}3{#/blank#}people would use herbs（药草）to drive away diseases. However, the most popular origin is closely related{#blank#}4{#/blank#}the great poet Qu Yuan in the Warring States Period. Composing masterpieces like Li Sao, he was regarded as one of the greatest{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(poem) in Chinese history. After he was exiled（流放）by the king, he had no alternative but to choose to drown{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(he) in the river rather than seeing his country conquered by the State of Qin. He died on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which is{#blank#}7{#/blank#}people decided to commemorate（纪念）him on that day{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(annual).{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(remember) his death on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, people celebrate the festival in{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(vary)ways.

Once a year, a race is held for old cars. A lot of cars entered for this race last year and there was a great deal of {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(excite) just before it began. One of the most handsome cars was a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost{#blank#}2{#/blank#}most unusual car was a Benz {#blank#}3{#/blank#}had only three wheels{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (build) in 1885, it was the oldest car taking part. After a great many loud explosions(轰响),the race began. Many of the cars {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (break) down on the way, so some drivers spent {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(much) time under their cars than in them! A few cars{#blank#}7{#/blank#} completed the race. The winning car reached a speed of forty miles an hour—--much faster than any of{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (it) rivals. It sped downhill at the end of the race and the driver had a lot of trouble {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(try) to stop it. The race gave everyone a great deal of pleasure. It was very different{#blank#}10{#/blank#}modern car races but no less exciting.

    Daisy had always longed to help endangered species of wildlife. One day she made a dream that she {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(take) to a distant land in Tibet by a flying carpet .There, the antelope told her they were killed for the wool beneath their {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(stomach). Then the carpet flew her to Zimbabwe {#blank#}3{#/blank#} she met an elephant. The elephant said they used to be {#blank#}4{#/blank#} endangered species because local farmers hunted them without mercy. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(fortunate), their number was now increasing {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the help of the government. So when learning that more attention was paid to {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(protect) wildlife, Daisy felt happy. Her final stop was a thick rainforest. A monkey was seen rubbing a millipede insect over {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(it) body. Out of {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(curious), Daisy asked the monkey what the millipede contained. Knowing it contained a powerful drug, Daisy could hardly wait {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(share) the good news with WWF.

    The colors red, white and blue, along {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the stars and stripes on the American flag, all represent different things. Red represents {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (strong) and bravery, white means virtue, and blue stands for hard work and {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (just). The thirteen stripes are {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (remind) people of the thirteen colonies that {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (join) together to fight for independence from Britain. Each year on 4 July, the USA celebrates Independence Day,{#blank#}8{#/blank#} the Stars and Stripes {#blank#}9{#/blank#} be seen all over the country,{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (light) by fireworks in the night sky.
