I will never forget that at the age of 9 I was asked to deliver a speech entitled A Challenge in My Life before the whole class! You can imagine how {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(terrible) shy I was the moment I thought of that…with so many eyes {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (fix) upon me. I could do nothing but {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (prepare) for it, though. First, I was to draft the speech, which was just a piece of cake for me, a good writer. But the hardest part {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (lie) in my oral presentation from my memory, for to read from the paper was not allowed. The real moment began {#blank#}5{#/blank#} I stood on the platform with my legs trembling and my mind blank. But my {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (listen) were waiting patiently without any signs of rushing me. Gradually I found myself back, giving out my speech tongue-tiredly. After {#blank#}7{#/blank#} seemed to be a hundred years, I found my audience applauding…I made it! From then on, my fear of talking before {#blank#}8{#/blank#}big audience disappeared. Actually with my confidence building up, I now turn out to be a great speaker. Looking back, I know the greatest difficult on our way {#blank#}9{#/blank#} success is our fear. Overcome it, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} you will be able to achieve your goals.

Journey to the Center of the Earth spoke of a trip to the centre of the earth through a volcano in Iceland. When Professor Otto Lindenbrock，his nephew and the guide they hired {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(reach) the volcano， they journeyed underground through a small cave. After many days， they came to a vast room {#blank#}2{#/blank#}a large ocean inside. The three men built a small boat and set sail.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (sudden)， two dinosaurs rose to the surface and began to fight each other. The small boat was almost sunk by the dinosaurs {#blank#}4{#/blank#}they were able to get away.

They sailed to shore and explored the forest. They came across huge insects and many strange {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(creature). As they were wandering around， they noticed a man sitting against a tree in the {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(distant)—he was at least four meters tall. The men became afraid， and ran back to the boat.

The boat floated down with the water {#blank#}7{#/blank#} they could only hold on to the boat in terror. Finally， they reached the bottom of the hole. Then the water began to push them up. They floated upwards for miles. The water rushed beneath them， {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(push) them out into the sunlight. They now found {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(they) in a volcano in Italy—their adventure was over，but a new one was about {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(begin).

    Fishermen and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (sail) sometimes claim to have seen monsters in the sea. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} people have often laughed at stories told by seamen, it is now {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (know) that many of these ‘monsters' which have at times been sighted are {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (simple) strange fish. Occasionally, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (usual) creatures are washed to the shore, but they are rarely caught out at sea. Some time ago, however, a peculiar fish was caught near Madagascar. A small fishing boat {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (carry) miles out to sea by the powerful fish as it pulled on the line. {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  (realize) that this was no ordinary fish, the fisherman made every effort not to damage {#blank#}8{#/blank#} in any way. When it was eventually brought to shore, it was found to be over thirteen feet long. It had a head like a horse, big blue eyes, shinning silver skin and a bright red tail. The fish, which has since been sent to a museum {#blank#}9{#/blank#} it is being examined by a scientist, is called an oarfish. Such creatures have rarely been seen {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (live) by man as they live at a depth of six hundred feet.

    Most children with healthy appetites are ready to eat almost anything that {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(offer)to them. A child seldom dislikes food {#blank#}2{#/blank#}it is badly cooked. The way meal is cooked and served is most important and a {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(good) served meal will often improve a child's appetite. Never ask a child{#blank#}4{#/blank#}he likes or dislikes the food and never discuss likes and dislikes in front of him or allow anybody else to do{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Parents should accent the fact{#blank#}6{#/blank#}he likes everything and he probably will. Nothing healthy should be omitted from the meal because of a{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(suppose)dislike. At meal times it is a good idea to give a child a small part and let him come back for {#blank#}8{#/blank#}second helping rather than give him as much as he is likely to eat all at once. Do not talk too much to the child during meal times,{#blank#}9{#/blank#}let him get on with his food; and do not allow him to leave the table immediately after a meal or he will soon learn to swallow his food so that he can hurry back to the toys in his room{#blank#}10{#/blank#}no condition must a child be forced to eat.

    A few months ago I left my hometown for Canada to study. I felt nervous because I was going to {#blank#}1{#/blank#}new place with new people. What worried me at first {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(be)that I couldn't speak English {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(fluent), and I also couldn't understand {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(they) customs. Everything was different {#blank#}5{#/blank#} my own country. I had to deal with everything alone

    It was a sad moment {#blank#}6{#/blank#}I had to say goodbye to my family and friends at the airport. Suddenly. I felt unwilling {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (leave)my hometown because l grew up there and had wonderful {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(memory) of the familiar place. However， I know studying abroad was a{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(decide)that I made myself I had to accept the challenge.

    By now I have got used to the new life here already, though I'm looking forward to {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(spend) the coming vacation with my old friends back home.
