As the days get hotter, we can stay inside and turn on the air conditioning(空调)to stay comfortable. But do you know that in ancient(古代的)China, people used a different kind of "air conditioning?

Starting from the Qin Dynasty, rich families began to store ice during winter. As summer began, they used ice to cool their homes. People would put a container(容器)with many ice cubes inside of it in their rooms. Servants(仆人)would fan the containers to make cool air.

But common people couldn't store ice. So they spent hot days near wells(井). Some people would keep their food in empty wells. The wells would keep the food cool and fresh, just like a fridge.

Chinese people also made their own summer drinks, such as well water and drinks made from herbs(草药). It is said that Kublai Khan（忽必烈)-emperor of the Yuan Dynasty-liked drinking milk with ice and sweet candy. Some people believe that it was the world's first ice cream.

The most unusual museum in London is the Science Museum. In most museums, there's no shouting and no running, and you aren't allowed to touch the exhibits. But the Science Museum is different… because it's noisy ! People talk about what they can see and do there, and some of the machines are noisy as well. Visiting the Science Museum is fun and it's a great way to learn about science because you can work things out and try out ideas.
When I visit the Science Museum, I go to the Launch Pad. This is my favorite room because you can do physics experiments. For example, if you want to fill a bag with falling sand, you have to move a kind of truck on wheels into the correct position. I also go to the Rocket Show. You can learn how we travel into space and back again.
Then I go upstairs to the Human and Nature room. You can compare your speed with animals there. You hear a noise and push a button. If you aren't fast enough, the lion catches you! I'm faster than all my friends, but the lion still catches me.
You can do a lot of things in this museum, but you have to obey some rules as well. For example, you mustn't take photos of the exhibits in the museum. But you can buy postcards of them in the museum shops.
Above all, the Science Museum is free. That means you can drop in for a few minutes or you can stay as long as you like – it's open every day, from 10 am to 6 pm. So if you ever go to London, make sure you visit the Science Museum. It's my favorite museum in the whole world.

You asked me for some information about eating out in Lichfield. Well, eating out in Lichfield is great. Lichfield has a number of really good restaurants and the best one is Steak House. It's the best because it has the thickest steaks, the freshest salads and the best French fries. You need to get there before 7:00 p.m.to get a table, because it gets crowded after that.

If you want something cheaper, you can go to Fish House. It's better than many other restaurants, and it is really great for people who like fish. The servings are the biggest in town. And it's easier to get a table than at Steak House. But Steak House is more convenient, because it's closer to the center of the city than FishHouse. Hamburger House is popular with teenagers, but older people might like other restaurants. In fact, it has the best service in Lichfield.
