Learning in the Field

A fun farming class took place in the fields! On Sept 15, Grade 7 students from Jinan No.34 Middle School, Shandong, went on a field trip. They learned about farming, reported Qilu News. At the grain base (粮食基地), teachers talked about grains with students and answered their questions. The students saw millet and soybeans (小米和大豆). They touched the wheat (小麦) and learned that people usually harvest (收获) the wheat at the end of September.

Young Reporters Put on a Show at School

Students at Johnson Middle School in US, are reporting their school's news in their own news program. The students take turns to make the program. They set up a green screen, sit down and give their classmates the headlines (新闻提要) of the day. They include (包括) what's going on in the school and news about future events. They share the lunch menu of the day. "The kids come in excitement. They love being on the news and sharing the news with other kids. They are eager (渴望) to know what's happening around them." said B.J. Burke, the school teacher.

On Nov 8, students from Nanjing Foreign Language School have a special class. During the class, they have a hands-on experience of making folk clothes. The students took on the challenge (挑战) making their own bags through tie-dyeing (扎染). It is a dyeing skill to make blue calico (印花布). The dye and the cotton material (材料) used to make blue calico all come from nature. "Tie-dyeing is a magical art. Everyone does it a bit differently, and you never know exactly how it will look in the end." said Ma Qianyu, a grade 8 student, happy with her work. The students will later go to Nanjing Museum to get more knowledge about life in Jiangsu and the folk customs there.

When people take a vacation, many choose to visit places of interest. But can they always enjoy it? The fact is only some of them can get pleasure sometimes. What makes one trip more enjoyable than another? The most important is to plan well. 

First, choose a right season to travel, Many places of interests have special beauty and activities in different seasons. Summer is the best season to swim in the sea. If you enjoy making a snowman, you should go travelling in winter. 

Second. you must find right vehicles. Travelling by plane is quick but expensive. But you will have to miss the beauty along the way. If you have enough time and want to enjoy the beauty out of the window, you can take the train. 

Third, traveling always makes you tired. So finding a nice hotel to have a good rest is necessary. We'd better make sure what kind of room we need. How are the conditions of the room? What's the price of the room?

The school day begins at 8:45. Class teachers meet the class and check who is present(出席) and absent（缺席） at the beginning of the day. We have a school meeting once a week on Fridays. The head teacher speaks to the whole school. Morning lessons begin at 9:05. There are three one-hour lessons and a fifteen-minute break between every two lessons.The lunch break is from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm.Afternoon lessons begin at 1:50 and the school day finishes at 4:00 pm.

All students study and take exams in maths,science and English.In addition, they choose one subject from history,geography, art, Design and Technology, French and Spanish. All students take PHSE(Personal Health and Safety Education)lessons but no exams are offered.

After school sports practice, matches are arranged（安排） on Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning. Chess, music, language and theatre clubs also arrange meetings after school. Students may join as many clubs as they like, but should join at least（至少） one.

The school has a good record in sports. Last year we were champions (冠军)in football and tennis,and individual students won prizes for swimming and gymnastics.

Chinese researchers reached the top of Qomolangma on May 4, 2022. They set up the world's highest automatic(自动的) weather station at an altitude(海拔 ) of 8,830 meters. This helps them to study the influences of climate change on the environment.

It is the highest automatic weather station in the world now. It has taken the place of the station sitting at an altitude of 8,430 meters on the south side of the mountain, which is the second highest now. This allows Chinese scientists to directly collect data(数据) for the first time from the top of the world's highest mountain.

Collecting and studying data from Qomolangma is not easy. But the data will give valuable information about the condition of local glaciers (冰川) and mountain snow. It will also help scientists study and understand the global monsoon(季风) system, so experts can make proper decision s about climate change.

Yao Tandong, a famous expert, said Chinese scientists had set up eight weather stations from 5,200 to 8,830 meters above sea level. Half of the stations were set up at an altitude higher than 7,000 meters." Along with strong government support and hard work by scientists, China has become a global front- runner in fields such as climate change." Yao said.
