I used to live selfishly, I should admit. But one moment changed me. I was on my lunch break and had 1 the office to get something to eat. On the way, I 2 a Busker (街头艺人), with a hat in front of him. I had some 3 in my pocket, but I would not give them to him, thinking to myself he would 4 use the money to feed his addiction (上瘾)to drugs or alcohol. He 5 like that type …young and ragged. 6 what was I going to spend the money on? Only to feed my addiction to Coca-Cola or chocolate! I then 7 I had no right to place myself above 8 just because he was busking.

I 9 and dropped all the coins into his 10, and he smiled at me, I watched for a while. As 11 as it sounds, I expected something more to come from that moment—a feeling of12 or satisfaction, for example. But nothing happened. 13, I walked off. "It proved to be a waste of 14," I thought.

    On my way home at the end of the 15, I saw the busker again and he was 16. I watched him pick up the hat and walk 17 a cafe counter. There he  poured the 18 money into a tin collecting 19 an earthquake fund-raising (募捐) event. He was busking for charity (慈善)!

    Now I donate any 20 I have to charity tins and enjoy the feeling of giving.

    In 2009 we were staying at our cousin's house in Triora, Italy. Settled just above a window was a bird's nest which my 1 said had been there for many years. Each year, different families of starlings (椋鸟) came back to make it their 2.

    We knew they were 3 because the chattering (鸣叫) of six newly hatched chicks 4us early every morning. Standing on a chair, I 5 to look into their nest. The first time I looked, the chicks were 6 and almost featherless. Their parents 7 backwards and forwards, bringing food to 8 their hungry and noisy chicks.

    Being 9 parents, whenever they saw me they screamed and flew at the window. So I could only 10 the chicks when they weren't around.

    11 the chicks were only a few days old, I realized the parents were teaching their young to fly. One brave chick beat its wings a few times and then 12 across the street landing on the roof of the house 13. Well done, I thought. The next day, my husband and I left for a tour and I was 14, thinking of how I would miss the rest taking their first 15.

    Two weeks later, on our 16, the first thing I did was look in the nest. It was 17. Then, suddenly, I head the beating of 18 and all eight of them were flying toward me. They 19a semicircle, singing to me. I felt as though they were saying, “Thank you for not harming us.” Then they flew off 20 into the blue sky.

    When I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter, I witnessed a car accident. Someone and I1to get the elderly lady who2the accident out of the car. It was during the summer months and I was one of the few3staff on. I stayed with her4the ambulance came but I couldn't travel with her as there was no one else in my department to5the class.

    My mother-in-law,6years later, was collecting donations about a 10-minute walk from where the7occurred. She left calling cards saying she would be back to houses where no one was in. When she8to a house an elderly lady was really9of talking to her. She questioned my mother-in-law and asked if she had any10called Rose-Marie.

    The lady had made a11with my surname (姓) she had remembered from all those years ago and my mother-in-law' surname. The lady12the story to my mother-in-law and told her of my13. She also said she had tried to14me down and even put a notice in the petrol station nearby asking anyone who15me to get in touch with her! She had also been16about me as I was pregnant.

My mother-in-law was17to tell her my daughter was healthy and 10 years old. It is a really beautiful kindness to me to18remember me after all that time and to even remember my19. Her kindness touched me more than20could possibly touch her.

    Almost everything was fantastic in the nature camp except for a girl, Elizabeth. When I saw her sitting alone in the hot sun at lunch, I asked her to eat with us under a(n) 1 tree. However, Elizabeth refused my kind 2. When we invited her to play volleyball with us, Elizabeth 3 our invitation, too. After a few more 4 refusals like that, I decided to stay away from Elizabeth.

    It 5 that we were going on a nature 6 and that our instructor paired everyone up with a partner. Guess who my partner turned out to be. It was Elizabeth!

    "What do you like to do 7?" I asked, trying to make small 8 as we started out. "I like to 9 in peace and quiet," Elizabeth 10. So we had the quietest and most peaceful hike in the world 11 we saw a bird. "I think his wing is hurt. Poor little bird," Elizabeth said 12. "He might be taking a rest over there." I said. Elizabeth nodded. Then she whispered, "But what if he's in 13, like my granddad?" "Your granddad?" I said. "He 14 and broke his leg the day the camp started. He's 15 in hospital and is in so much pain," Elizabeth explained. I noticed she was 16. "I'm sorry for what I have done. For some reason, whenever I get really sad, I act 17 and want to be alone," she added.

    "I get it," I said. "I don't always know how to 18 it when I'm feeling down, either." "Thanks," she said, wiping off her tears.

    After that, Elizabeth seemed to get along well with us, and I think she actually 19 the last few days of the camp.

    Next time, if someone is unfriendly, give him a second 20. Maybe he's going through a tough time.

    One of my favourite films is Mr. Bean. At a Fancy (化装)Restaurant. In the film, after being1at his table, Mr. Bean takes out a2, writes a few words on it, signs his name, puts it into an envelope and 3it on the table. After a moment, he looks at the4but this time he looks surprised, as if he did not know it was there. He opens it to find a birthday card and delightedly puts it on the table for everyone to see.

    When he looks at the5, an astonished look quickly6on his face. He takes all7out of his pockets, counts it and puts it in a saucer(碟子).He then looks from the menu to the money with 8until he finds one thing that makes him smile. He9a dish called "steak tartare." When the dish arrives, he is 10to discover that "steak tartare" is11a raw(生肉的)hamburger. He12an attempt to eat it, but it is13, from the look on his face, that he finds the taste really terrible. He cannot14his feelings, except when the waiter asks whether everything is OK. He smiles and nods,15that everything is fine.16no one is looking, however, he17himself hiding the raw meat anywhere he can18, inside a sugar bottle, a tiny flower vase and under a plate. He becomes so disappointed in the end that he19hides some inside the20of a woman sitting near him and throws some under the seat of the restaurant's violinist!

    I like to watch Mr. Bean on TV but I wouldn't want to meet someone like him in real life.

Day Camp

Our Day Camp is more than a place where children simply play. We are a group of devoted educators who long to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children. 

Sailfish

Entering 3rd & 4th Grades

Sailfish groups are separated by gender(性别) and enjoy intramural(校内的) sports with a greater emphasis placed on teamwork and sportsmanship. Sailfish group also enjoy all of the aquatic(水生的) activities our waterfront campus has to offer, along with a daily schedule of activities that enrich the mind and body. 

Tadpoles

Entering Kindergarten

This group of campers have their own learning facility(设施) and take part in age-appropriate specials throughout the day. The Tadpoles swim twice daily in our in-ground swimming pool. A certified teacher and counselorsc指导老师) arganize and monitor the day's activities, helping the Tadpoles to prepare for the fun of the upcoming school year. 

Minnows

Entering lst & 2nd Grades

These campers are grouped by gender and have the chance to play sports-centered games, explore art and saence and become acquainted with the excitement of sailing on Stony Brook Harbor. Daily swimming lessons are also included, and trips to the beach are a favorite of the Minnows. Both certified teachers and senior counselors work with these campers to provide a safe and enriching experience. 

Dolphins

Entering 5th & 6th Grades

These campers participate in a wide variety of sports and activities. Same-gendered grouping allows flexibility for the groups to choose their favorite games during meeting times. Dolphins also spend time sailing on the Harbor, swimming in our in-ground swimming pool and participating in adventurous activities.
