Parents and the Young
It is natural that young people are often uncomfortable when they are with their parents.
They often think that their parents are out of touch with modern ways, that they are too serious and too strict with their children, and that they seldom give their children a free hand.
It is time that parents often find it difficult to win their children's trust and they always forget how they themselves felt when young. It is one of their ways to show that they have grown up and they can face any difficult situation. Adults worry more easily. Most of them plan things ahead.
Young people make their parents angry with their choices in clothes, in entertainment and in music. But they do not mean to cause any trouble: It just shows that they feel cut off from the adult's world, and they have not yet been accepted into their world. And if their parents do not like their music or entertainment or clothes or their way of speech, this will make the young people very happy.
Sometimes you are so proud of yourself that you do not want your parents to say “yes” to what you do. It is natural enough, after being a child for so many years, when you were completely under your parents' control.
If your parents see that you have a high sense of responsibility, they will give you the right to do what you want to do.

E. All you want is to be left alone and do what you like.

Talk to people who already play musical instruments. F. Practicing the drums, for example, will drive your neighbors crazy. G. If you want to learn a musical instrument, you might face a problem: what to play? |
Playing a musical instrument can be a fun and rewarding hobby. It's a good way to express feelings and develop confidence in your abilities. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Here are a few questions to help you decide.
What kind of music do you like?
What you are interested in will encourage you to play. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Traditional orchestra musical instruments are what you hear in classical music. Modern music calls for modern instruments, like electric guitars.
Where are you going to practice?
{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Think about where and when you are going to practice, as well as the patience of the people you live with or near. Some instruments like the guitar give you the chance of playing in the night using earphones, while your housemates sleep in peace. Also, you may need to consider going to a school or a music center to practice.

This is quite a big problem. A lot of instruments can be bought in different price ranges. But this doesn't change the fact that many instruments, such as the piano, are always expensive. If you can't afford your chosen instrument, will you be able to borrow someone else's?
Are there any physical limitations?
If you are small and don't like lifting heavy objects, you won't want to carry around a cello (大提琴). If you don't have great lung power, think twice about the saxophone. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} But remember that with the right coaching, everyone can develop the right skills.
In 1985, 16-year-old Douglas Casa, ran the championship 10, 000 meter track race at the Empire State Games. Suddenly, with just 200 meters to go, he collapsed on the final straightaway, with his body temperature at dangerous levels. He had suffered an exertional heat stroke(运动型中暑)or sunstroke. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
From ancient soldiers on the battlefield to modern warriors on the gridiron(足球球场), exertional heat stroke, has long been a serious concern. And unlike classical heat stroke, which affects people such as babies and the elderly during heat waves, exertional heat stroke is caused by intense exercise in the heat. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}
So how do you diagnose an exertional heat stroke? The main criterion is a core body temperature greater than 40℃ along with signs of central nervous system disfunction such as confused behavior, or loss of consciousness.
As far as treatment goes, the most important thing to remember is cool first, transport second. The human body can withstand a core temperature above 40℃ for about 30 minutes before cell damage sets in. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}After any athletic or protective gear has been removed from the victim, place them in an ice water tub while stirring the water and monitoring vitals continuously. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}As you wait, itˈs important to keep the victim calm while cooling as much surface area as possible until emergency personnel arrive. If medical staff are available on site, cooling should continue until a core temperature of 38. 9℃ is reached.
{#blank#}5{#/blank#}As Dr. J Levick wrote of exertional heat stroke in 1859, "It strikes down its victim with his full armor on. Youth, health and strength oppose no obstacle to its power. " But donˈt be frightened so much for it has been 100% survivable with proper care.
A. Fortunately he survived with immediate treatment. B. When possible seek out places with air-conditioners. C. So itˈs necessary to start cooling as quickly as possible. D. But emergency services should be called before you start. E. The sun can also take lives away if people are not careful. F. So far it has been one of the top three killers of athletes in training. G. It is important to keep the body temperature close to its normal temperature. |
