You don't need to get in a time-travelling machine to see how technology will change our lives, such as the way we shop. Several new technologies that are to change your buying habits already appear. Let's see what's in store for your future shopping.

Try it on, virtually(虚拟地). Want to shop online for a new pair of glasses? You don't need to guess which pair looks best on you—use the eBay Fashion iPhone app to try a pair of glasses you're checking out on a picture of your face. But what about buying something bigger? Thanks to Microsoft Kinect's action tracking(跟踪)camera, you can cover clothes on your screen body. You can even choose the background of your virtual fitting room to improve your shopping experience.

Get a perfect, custom fit. Everyone's body is shaped differently. To get a perfect fit, you sometimes have to get your clothes changed. But by using 3D scanning technology, all the clothes you buy will fit your body perfectly. Some companies scan(扫描)your body using High-tech to get the real sizes, so they can make special clothes just for you.

High-tech shopping carts(推车)and checkout counters(收银台). High-tech shopping carts could be common in malls and supermarkets in the future. Microsoft Kinect-enabled carts are under test. The cart can follow you along the aisles(通道), controlled only by your movement and your voice.

In the United States, several supermarkets use a certain set called “Scan It” that gives buyers the freedom to scan products on their own while they shop. If we don't want to wait in line before the checkout counters, we can use Toshiba's new object Recognition Scanner. The machine identifies(辨认)a product as soon as it's placed in front of a camera just by its shape and color, even if it has no bar code.

(1)、According to Paragraph 2, the eBay Fashion iPhone app can ______.
A、only make pictures of our faces B、help us sell more clothes online C、create us a virtual dressing room D、choose suitable glasses for us
(2)、Which of the following can help get the correct shape of our body?
A、Object Recognition Scanner. B、The eBay Fashion iPhone app. C、3D scanning technology. D、Microsoft Kinect-enabled carts.
(3)、What can we infer from this passage?
A、Checkout counters will disappear from supermarkets in future. B、High-tech shopping carts will be widely used in malls and supermarkets C、“Scan It” cannot be used by buyers themselves. D、The new technologies are only dreams that are impossible to come true.
(4)、This passage mainly talks about ______.
A、a new time-travelling machine B、the influence of new technology C、some inventions to change habits D、the ways for future shopping

New App Helps People Remember Faces

Large gatherings such as weddings and meetings can be socially Q flooded with people. Learning people's names only adds to the stress. A new facial-recognition app could come to the rescue, but experts suggest people should be careful while using it.

The app, called SocialRecall, connects names with faces through smartphone cameras and facial recognition, avoiding the need for formal introductions. "It breaks down these social barriers we all have when meeting somebody, "says Barry Sandrew, who created the app and tested it at an event attended by about 1, 000 people.

After receiving an invitation to download SocialRecall from an event organizer, the user is asked to take two selfies and sign in through social media. At the event, the app is active within a previously set geographical area. When a user points his or her phone camera at an attendee's face, the app identifies the person, displays the person's name, and links to his or her social media information. To protect Privacy, it recognizes only those who have agreed to use. And the app's creators say it automatically removes users' data after an event.

Ann Cavoukian, a expert who runs the Privacy by Design Center of Excellence praises the app's creators for these protective measures. She added, however, that when people choose to share their personal information with the app, they should know that "there may be unexpected results down the road with that information being used in another situation that might come back to bite you."

The start-up project has developed the app for people who suffer from prosopagnosia, or "face blindness, "a condition that prevents people from recognizing people they have met. To use this app, a person first receives an image of someone's face, from either the smartphone's camera or a photograph, and then tags it with a name. When the camera spots or recognizes that same face in real life, the previously entered information is displayed. The collected data are stored only on a user's phone, according to the team behind the app.

①If a child has brown hair and blue eyes, one or both of the child's parents probably has brown hair and blue eyes. Why? Genes (基因). Scientists know that the way people look is passed down from parent to child by information in genes. But how about other things? If a parent is shy, then would the child also be shy? If a parent is smart, then will the child also be smart? Scientists want to know how much genes and ways of raising can affect (影响) a person.

②One way scientists have studied this question is by studying identical twins who were separated (分开) at birth. Identical twins are twins that look the same on the outside. They also have the same genes on the inside. This is how scientists study their nature. Many years ago, when twins were given away to other families at birth, they didn't always go to the same family. So, they were separated and raised in different ways. This was of great interest to scientists. Even if the twins had the same genes and looked the same, did they turn out the same as adults? Here are what the scientists have found.

③For some things, such as looks or diseases, the twins turned out the same. Even if one twin drank lots of milk and the other did not, they were of similar heights as adults. Even if one twin exercised and ate healthy food and the other did not, they could get the same disease as adults. Scientists found that how each twin was raised could not change much.

④However, in the case of personality (个性), the answer is not so clear. Some separated twins had completely different personalities and lives as adults. Other separated twins were almost exactly the same. They dressed the same, talked the same, and even had the same jobs—even though they had never met!

⑤In the end, there seems to be no simple answer. As a whole, it seems people become who and what we are because of both genes and how we are raised.

We made a survey among different age groups on preferred ways of watching TV programs. The following is the analysis (分析)of the survey results. We hope to give suggestions to advertisers based on the findings.

TV viewers of different ages were asked about their primary way of watching TV. The results can be seen in the pie chart, which shows that although live TV is still popular, it is now preferred by just under half of those surveyed. Watching recorded programs (DVR) is the second most popular way (23%), with online streaming (直播) in the third place (17%).

Of the people who choose each of the three main viewing kinds, the graph shows what percentage of these viewing kinds are in each of the seven age groups. To help advertisers look for target(目标)age groups, the report will focus on the data(数据) shown in this graph.

The survey shows that live TV viewers are older in age, so advertising through live TV will be less helpful for products aimed at younger people.

On demand or DVR viewers are more likely to be aged 25-54. This is the best kind for advertisers aiming at a wide age group. But it should be remembered that they are likely to skip advertisements when watching recorded programs. They think it is a waste of time to watch ads.

Online streaming viewers are typically younger in age (under 25). Although they now make up less than a fifth of viewers, the number is likely to rise in the near future.

Generally, it is likely that the data for the three kinds will become almost the same in the near future.
