    Some people have a very poor sense of direction(方向). Unluckily, I am one of them. I have visited a place many times but I may still get lost there the next time.

    When I was a little girl, I never dared to ask people the way. And so I used to walk around in circles and hope that by chance I would get to the place I was going to.

    Now I am no longer too shy to ask people for directions, but I often get helpless or even wrong information. So I try to avoid giving people wrong directions. If someone asks me the way somewhere, I will say, "Sorry, I am new here."

    Once on my way to work I was stopped by a man. He asked me if I could tell him the way to the Friendship Building. I gave him my usual reply. But just as I walked on only a few steps, I realized that he had asked the way to my office building. However, I had no time to turn back and look for him. I was rushing to meet with someone at my office and I didn't want to keep him waiting.

    When I just got to my office, the secretary(秘书) showed in the man who had asked me for directions. Imagine(想象) how embarrassed I was and how surprised he was when we saw each other at the first sight.

    A girl complained to her father about her hard life. She didn't know 1 she had to do and wanted to give up. She felt 2 of fighting and fighting. One problem had been finished but another came. Her father 3 was a cook took her into the kitchen. He poured water into the pan（锅）and boiled it. While the water 4, in the first pan he put carrots, in the second he put some eggs and in the last he put some coffee. He waited for them for 5 minutes without any words. The girl closed her mouth and waited 6. She didn't know why her father was doing that. After about 20 minutes, her father turned 7 the stove, took out the carrots and put them in a bowl. Her father told her to close her eyes and let her 10 the carrots. She did and felt that the carrots were soft. After that he asked her to take eggs and break them. Then, she got boiled and hard eggs. At last, the father told her to smell the coffee. “What's the meaning, Father?” He explained that each one had 11 same unlucky experience—the boiled water,12each had a different reaction（反应）. The strong and hard carrots had become soft and weak after13in the boiling water?” The eggs became hard in the boiled water. The coffee was very special and it 14 change the water. “Who are you?” asked the father, “When calamity（厄运） 15 at your door, what's your reaction? Are you carrots, eggs or coffee?”

    Once when Kevin was selling hats under a big tree, the monkeys in the tree picked some hats and put them on. So Kevin took off his own hat and threw 1on the ground. The stupid monkeys threw their hats too! Kevin soon 2 all the hats and left happily.

    Fifty years later, young Tony, 3of Kevin, also sold hats for a living. 4 a long walk, Tony was tired, so he put his bag of hats beside him and lay down under a big tree, He was soon 5 

    When he woke up, Tony found that there weren't any hats in his bag! Tony started looking for his hats. To his 6 , he found some monkeys in the tree wearing his hats.

    Tony didn't know what to do.  Then he remembered the story his grandfather7to tell him. "Yes! I can fool these monkeys!" thought Tony. "I'll 8 them imitate(模仿) me and very soon I will get all my hats back !"

    Tony then waved at the monkeys, and the monkeys waved at him. Tony started dancing, the monkeys were also dancing. Tony threw his hat on the ground.

    Just then, one of the monkeys jumped down 9the tree, picked up the hat Tony threw on the ground and 10up to .Tony. He said, "Do you think only you have a grandfather?"

    Once there was a young lion named Leo who loved to play. He often played with his brothers and sisters. Sometimes his mother would play with him, too. But Leo wished for 1 more. He wanted to play with other 2.

    So one day Leo walked up to Millie the monkey. "Would you like to play with me?" he asked.

    "I cannot play with you," said Millie. "Lions are 3."

    Then Leo asked Fred the fox to play. But Fed's mother had told him to 4 lions. Pat the pig said that lions did not make good friends.

Leo had tears in his eyes as he went along.

    Leo heard a 5 sound as he was walking home. Someone seemed to be crying. Then Leo saw Zip the zebra. The poor little zebra was caught in a 6 net. And Zip cried even more 7 when he saw Leo coming.

    Leo told Zip that he wanted to 8 him. He used his sharp teeth to chew a hole in the net. Soon Zip was free. He jumped out of the net and licked Leo's face.

    The next morning Leo saw Zip's mother standing close to Zip.

    "Hi, Leo," called Zip.

    "Thank you for 9 my child," said Zip's mother.

    Then Leo saw the other animals. All the animals invited Leo to play with them. Leo 10 the day playing with his new friends. They played tag, hide-and-seek, and follow the leader. Leo's wish had come true finally.

    I have always had a love for traveling abroad. Last year, I took a trip to London alone. Those nights，I stayed in a youth hostel（青年旅社）. For me，hostels are places where I can meet and talk to different people. It is great fun for me. During the stay in the hostel, I met two girls, one from Brazil and the other from Slovakia. We three had very happy talks together. We shared our personal travel stories and the interesting people we met with one another. The girl from Brazil was actually a lawyer（律师）. 她帮助人们解决他们的家庭问题。 She was taking a trip to Europe all by herself. The girl from Slovakia had much interest in photography（摄影）. Because I was also a photography fan, we ended up talking all night and sharing experience in using a camera.

    The best part is that they both became close friends of mine. Even now, sometimes we still talk with each other online. Last month, I got some photos from the Brazilian girl. To my surprise, she had a baby daughter and they were laughing happily in the photos. I was so happy for her. And it's such a great thing to know that there are people remembering you from far away. Though you may just meet each other for a few hours, you have someone caring about you in the other side of the world. And I think that is the most amazing part of traveling. So if you have free time, maybe you can try to travel abroad to relax yourself as I do.
