Kids' health

Flu is a common illness. Kids easily catch the flu in winter months. It can pass from one person to another very quickly. Sometimes the flu is just like a common cold. In fact, it can cause serious illness. But don't worry, most people can be well without any problem.

Symptoms(症状): fever, cough,  headache,  sore throat,  feel tired

What to do:

If your kid gets the flu:

①Let your kid have a rest as much as possible.

②Ask your kid to drink more hot water.

③Take your kid's temperature sometimes.

Don't give cough or cold medicine to children under 6 years old (call the doctor first.)

    Before the day I stepped into junior high school, I had always thought that as long as I could read, speak, and listen well, English will be a "no problem" 1 for me, and that English grammar was a piece of cake. My father 2 to tell me the importance of grammar but I just wouldn't listen. I didn't understand what's so important about the whole "grammar" thing.

    This misunderstanding didn't last long. Something unexpected happened. It was only 3that day, and I would never forget that day. I was just a young and seventh grader when our English teacher 4 to give us a quiz on English grammar. We had to fill in blanks. After I read the sentence in question number one, different kinds of answers which I thought were possible came into my mind. Unexpectedly, the same trouble that just happened, appeared right in front of me again, and it just kept happening again and again until I heard our teacher say 6"Time's up." I had to turn in my answer sheet 7 so many unsure answers on it.

    I was really sad about the whole thing. And since then, I've 8 that in English, writing grammar is quite different from spoken grammar. My father had been trying to tell me the important role grammar plays in learning English. Well, it's 9 too late to learn anything, including ENGLISH! So, I started to work on my grammar skills, and thanks to that bad 10, I really learned a lot from it! Now, I'm still on my journey of learning grammar, and I am enjoying it.

    A new rubbish sorting system (垃圾分类系统) has been put into use in Fangchengyuan Community in Beijing. Local people not only sort their rubbish, but also put QR codes (二维码) on it.

    "When the rubbish is collected and the codes are seen, I will get reward points to exchange for small gifts and even some money," one of the local people told reporters. "It's really creative and encouraging."

    This smart system has been carried out in 350 communities in Beijing. The capital of China has joined a list of cities in the country that take action to support rubbish sorting. For example, Shenzhen and Shanghai have made laws to punish people and organizations for not sorting rubbish correctly.

    China produces quite a lot of rubbish every year. Much of the rubbish is buried (填埋) in soil or burned without being sorted. Landfills (填埋场) take up a lot of land and have a risk of polluting the soil and water nearby. And burning rubbish can produce harmful gases. Through rubbish sorting, we can reduce the use of landfills and air pollution.

    What's more, rubbish sorting saves resources, which could bring economic benefits (经济利益). For example, a ton of waste paper can be reused to make about 850 kg of paper, saving 17 trees and 50 percent of water. Because of the benefits, some countries have developed successful sorting systems.

    Japan has a strict and detailed system. When people throw away a water bottle, the cap, the wrapper (包装纸) and the bottle itself have to go into three different bins. Every year, families receive special rubbish sorting timetables and directions from their local governments. They are advised to follow the timetables and directions when they throw away rubbish.

    In Australia, every family is provided with three rubbish bins—the red lid (盖子) bin for "general waste" like food and plastic bags, the yellow lid bin for "recycling" like steel and glass, and the green lid bin for "green waste" such as grass and leaves. On the streets, the bins are printed with pictures of the things that are allowed inside. It makes recycling quite easy.

Have you ever heard of the "space race (太空竞赛)"? It sounds like a game, but it was not. The "space race" was a kind of competition between the United States and the Soviet Union(前苏联). Both countries wanted to be the first to send people into space. 

Both the Soviet Union and the United States sent rockets (火箭) into space in the 1950s, but not people. Then in 1961, a man called Yury Gagarin from the Soviet Union became the first man to travel in space. 

People in the United States were upset. They'd hoped an American would be first in space. Soon President John F. Kennedy told the world that Americans would be the first to land on the moon. He said they would get there by 1970. 

Landing on the moon was hardly possible at the time. But that "impossible dream" came true. 

On 16th July 1969, a huge white rocket left the United States. It was carrying a spaceship called Apollo 11. In it were three US astronauts: Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin. 

Apollo 11 travelled quickly through space. On 20th July, it was near the moon. Armstrong and Aldrin moved slowly into the Eagle. That was their landing craft (登月舱). It would leave the command ship (指令舱) and land on the moon. 

Collins stayed in the command ship. Armstrong and Aldrin watched the moon getting closer and closer. Finally, the Eagle landed. Armstrong used his radio to tell people on the earth, "The Eagle has landed. " He and Aldrin stepped out into (步入) a strange new world. They were walking on the moon!
