Guess what Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and the United States president Donald Trump's granddaughter, Arabella Kushner, have in common?  Although Chinese is known as one of the hardest languages to learn, a lot of people from different backgrounds are studying it.

On Novemeber 2, the 12th "Chinese Bridge" Competition was held in Zheng zhou, Henan. And more than 120 foreign students from 105 countries took part in it.  After it, the competitors also visited shaolin Temple, Longmen Grottoes(石窟)and other historical sites in Henan.

Although they have different reasons for learning Chinese, the competitors were all excited about the country's rich culture and rapid development. Raissa, a 17-year-old girl, developed a strong emotional connection with China.  This led her to learn Chinese at a local Confucius Institute. Fascinated by Chinese culture, she has taken part in activities on traditional Chinese medicine and folk arts during her first trip to China.  For Fekete Marcell Zoltan, from Hungary, studying Chinese may offer him a better future job. "After graduating from high school, I would like to further my studies in China," he said.

Since a bridge has been set up between the competitors and China, where will their journeys take them? Robert Davis, a director of a Chinese-language school in Chicago, may give you a reply.

A. They all study Chinese as a second language.

B. Her dream is to study Chinese medicine to treat patients.

C. Her grandmother was cured by Chinese doctors three years ago.

D. Speech contests and talent shows were included in the competition.

E. He said Chinese would be the new international language in the future.

Before the day I stepped into junior high school, I had always thought that as long as I could read, speak, and listen well, English will be a "no problem" 1 for me, and that English grammar was a piece of cake. My father 2 to tell me the importance of grammar but I just wouldn't listen. I didn't understand what's so important about the whole "grammar" thing.

This misunderstanding didn't last long. Something unexpected happened. It was only 3that day, and I would never forget that day. I was just a young and seventh grader when our English teacher 4 to give us a quiz on English grammar. We had to fill in blanks. After I read the sentence in question number one, different kinds of answers which I thought were possible came into my mind. All of them seemed right and made sense to me, but there was only one 5 answer to it, but I didn't know which one exactly. I was shocked, but I said to myself "never mind", and went on to question number two. Unexpectedly, the same trouble that just happened, appeared right in front of me again, and it just kept happening again and again until I heard our teacher say 6"Time's up." I had to turn in my answer sheet 7 so many unsure answers on it.

I was really sad about the whole thing. And since then, I've 8 that in English, writing grammar is quite different from spoken grammar. My father had been trying to tell me the important role grammar plays in learning English. Well, it's 9 too late to learn anything, including ENGLISH! So, I started to work on my grammar skills, and thanks to that bad 10, I really learned a lot from it! Now, I'm still on my journey of learning grammar, and I am enjoying it.

On 19th September 1783, Pilatre De Rozier, a scientist, sent the first hot air balloon. The passengers were three animals and the balloon stayed in the air for about 15 minutes before hitting back to the ground.

The first manned(载人的) flight was about 2 months later, with a balloon made by 2 French brothers. The balloon flew for a period of 20 minutes.

Sailing through the sky in the balloon, high above buildings and trees, you can't feel or hear the wind because you're traveling in the same direction and at the same speed as it is.

A hot air balloon has three main parts: the balloon, called an envelope; a basket, where passengers ride; and a burner system, which supplies the hot air.

Most balloon envelopes are made of strong, lightweight nylon(尼龙). They are different in size and shape, but they have to be really, really big to lift even one person. Most weigh more than an adult man.

The basket is usually made of wicker(柳条), which is strong but not too hard. It needs to bend a bit for a soft landing, just like a good jumper bends her legs instead of keeping them straight when she lands.

The hot air balloon works on the theory that hot air rises faster than cooler air. When the burner system is turned on, it makes a noisy sound, but once the balloon is flying, the burner can be turned off. The air in the envelope will then cool, and the balloon will slowly go down unless the pilot starts the burner system again.

To control a hot air balloon, a pilot adds hot air to it to go up or lets the air out to go down until he finds a wind blowing in the direction he wants to fly. But no matter which way the wind blows, the passengers have an amazing bird's-eye view of the world.

According to a study in Nature Climate Change, the population of polar bears will be in serious drop by the year

2080. The cause is melting(融化) sea ice. Without ice, the bears must walk on the bank which is away from their main food source. That means the animals will be in danger because of lacking food.

" There's not enough food on land to support a polar bear population." Doctor Smith, the study's lead writer said. Lacking of food induces another problem. Mother bears may not be fat enough to produce milk for their babies. Some bear populations could stop having babies, leading to a rapid drop in numbers.

Arctic(北极) sea ice usually melts in the spring and summer, and then grows in the winter. But now, the ice is taking longer to grow back. Weather reports say the Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet. Ice here has reduced 13% every 10 years since the 1970s. The Arctic is home to about 25,000 polar bears. Scientists have known that the animals are in danger.

But the study also notes that it is still possible to slow Arctic melting. The world can reduce the burning of fossil fuels(石化燃料) and lower the greenhouse gas." Saving the polar bears is up to us, I believe that there is hope. But humans need to act quickly to turn that hope into a reality." Doctor Smith said.
