    Our parakeet (长尾鹦鹉) Chip and Goldie, a stray tortoiseshell kitten we took in{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (grow) to be best friends, eating and playing together. I was a member{#blank#}2{#/blank#}a bird conservation organization at the time, so we often took care of injured {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(bird). Goldie helped raise dozens of injured and orphaned native birds{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (act) as a watchful guardian. One day, it was Chip who needed Goldie's supervision.     After being reported to the Nazis, Anne, her  family, and {#blank#}8{#/blank#}others living with them were arrested (逮捕) and sent to Nazi concentration camps. In March of 1945, several{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(month) after she was arrested, Anne Frank died. She was fifteen years old.

    Her courage and legacy live on, and she is frequently regarded {#blank#}10{#/blank#}a role model for today.

    Just up the road from my home is a field，with two horses in it. From a distance，each horse looks like any other horse. But if you get a{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(close)look, you will notice one of them is blind. Instead of abandoning him, his owner has made him a safe and comfortable barn to live in. And if you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (come) from{#blank#}3{#/blank#} smaller horse.     Life does not throw us away just because we are not perfect {#blank#}10{#/blank#}because we have problems or challenges. Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little ringing bell of our acquaintances；at other times we are the guide horse，who helps others to find their way.

    A few years ago, I had to stay at the hospital for three days for a medical test. I {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(ask) to stay awake for more than 30 hours because of the test. It could be {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(extreme) difficult for anyone. And I didn't believe I could make it. My mother said she would accompany me. But I knew even {#blank#}3{#/blank#} my mother accompanying me, it wouldn't be easy.

    To my surprise, that afternoon {#blank#}4{#/blank#} my mom came to my room, she had my friend Susan with her. That afternoon Susan called my mother. As soon as she {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (hear) I needed to stay awake for so long, she decided to help me. So she offered {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(come) to the hospital to stay with me and help keep me awake. Things became much {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (easy) than I had imagined with Susan's help. She told me stories and jokes, and time passed very quickly.

    Without Susan's help, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} whole stay in the hospital would have been much more difficult. And our {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(friend) became deeper from then on. I think nothing can keep us apart. I'm so {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (thank) that I have such a friend.

    Now, I'd like to tell you about the development of computers. Computers began {#blank#}1{#/blank#} a calculating machine in France in 1642, it could {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (simple) difficult sums. In 1936, Alan Turing wrote a book about how a computer could be made to work as a "universal Machine" {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (solve) any difficult mathematical problem. By the 1940s, computers had grown as large as a room. As time went by, they were made {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (small). Since the 1970s computers {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (use) in offices and homes, first as personal computers and then as laptops.

    As computers' memory improved, computers became much smaller and more {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (intelligence). First the memory was stored in tubes, then on transistors and later on very small chips. Over time computer's memory {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (develop) so much that computers remember everything they have been told. In the early 1960s computers could be connected to each other by the network {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (call) the World Wide Web.

    Many new {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (apply) have been found for computers since the1970s. They have been used in communication, finance, trade, robots, mobile phones, space rockets and so the goal of computers is to provide humans {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a life of high quality.
