After several moments of 4, I replied: "Thanks." And then the inner(内心的) voice 5to me, "Ask him if he needs help." After a short 6 I asked him if he needed any help. His respond was7, I will never forget those simple three words "Don't we all?"

It was a true 8 to me. I needed help, just as those 9. I had money and a place to sleep, but I 10 needed help. Then I opened my wallet and gave him enough11 to get him to have a shelter for a day.

12I understood that no matter how much money, achievements, luxury(奢侈)things do we have, we all need help. And on the other hand, no matter howpoor you are, how many 13 problems you have, you still might offer your help to others, you still might be giving. 14 it's just a nice word, it can be 15 to other person.

Maybe that man was just a homeless stranger, but to me he was 16that. Maybe he was a man sent to 17me that there is one thing, among all other18, which is very important and cannot be 19for every person. Actually, it is a true 20 and it is called Giving.

You Did More Than Carry My Books

Mark was walking home from school one day when he noticed a boy ahead of him had dropped all of the books he was carrying, along with a baseball bat and several other things. Mark 1 down and helped the boy pick up these articles. 2 they were going the same way, he helped to carry some of them for him. As they walked, Mark 3 the boy's name was Bill, that he 4 computer games, baseball and history, that he was having a lot of 5 with his other subjects and that he had just broken 6 with his best friend.

They arrived at Bill's home first and Mark was 7 in for a Coke and to watch some television. The afternoon passed 8 with a few laughs and some shared small talk, and then Mark went home. They 9 to see each other around school, had lunch together once or twice, and then both ended up from the same high school. Just three weeks before 10, Bill asked Mark if they 11 talk. Bill 12 him of the day years ago when they had first met. “Do you 13 wonder why I was carrying so many things home that day?” asked Bill. “You see, I 14 out my locker(橱柜) because I didn't want to leave a mess 15 anyone else. I had planned to run away and I was going home to 16 my things. But after we spent some time together 17 and laughing, I realized that 18 I had done that, I would have 19 a new friend and missed all the fun we would have together. So you see, Mark, when you picked up my books that day, you did a lot more. You 20 my life.”

A father and his teenage son were out together at a shopping mall one day. The son wanted to buy a new pair of 1 at the sports store.

2 they were making their way through the crowded food store, a young woman holding a number of bags 3 and the contents of several of them spilled (洒落) across the floor.

The son stepped around the woman and continued with the flow only to 4 that his father wasn't next to him. Looking around he 5 his father bending down and helping the woman 6 the spilled items.

Feeling a bit bad he hadn't thought to stop and help, he simply stood and 7 from the distance. He was 8 when his father handed the woman her things and she simply took them away without 9 him and said “I can do it myself!” When his father returned, the son expressed his 10 at how impolite the woman had been.

In the sports store the son was so 11 about the incident that he spent most of the time complaining. They soon left without the shoes.

Later at 12 the son told his mother the story13 her to be just as angry as he was at the woman's14 His mother looked at her husband 15 enjoying his meal and said, “Son, your father left that woman behind hours ago. Why are you 16with her?”

When we hold onto 17 feelings, all it does is to leave us stuck (陷入) in the past and18 to move forward. One of the best things you can do to stay happy is to 19 to let things go. It is okay to show anger and unhappiness.20 don't let them affect you and how you see the world.

I'm working on my Happiness Project, and you could have one, too! If not, no 1 to catch up, just join right now. Everyone says one of the most effective ways to deal with 2 emotions is to 3. If things are sad, try to find a 4 to laugh or joke. Easier said than done.

However, I had a chance to make a joke of it last night. My husband 5 the job of dealing with my 6 orthodontic(矫牙)treatment. He7 he'd make the 8 and take her to see the doctor.

On 9 flight to Kansas city for the holidays, my daughter lost her dental braces(牙套). We looked everywhere on the plane but it was 10. We returned home 11 and my husband didn't call to make an appointment. Days went12. I 13 him periodically, but nothing happened.

Whenever I thought about this delay(延误), I became extremely annoyed. Last night, I was 14 to turn on my anger at full volume(音量). "This really matters. She is growing now. She'll only have to suffer, you 15 you'd do it," But then I thought about, "make a joke of it." So I went over and said 16, "honey, if you don't call the orthodontist's tomorrow, I'm going to be very angry. I'm not threatening, just giving you fair warning." And today he made the appointment. I'm not sure if making a joke of it was more effective(有效的)than getting angry, but I don't think it was less effective.

I used the same 17 on myself last weekend. Faced with a lot of dull tasks to do, I repeated to myself 18, "Oh well, this is the weekend of the dreaded(恐怖)tasks." And just making that little joke made it easier to handle those tasks.

Maybe, my jokes weren't funny at all. But just the attempt to take a 19 attitude made a huge 20. It's easy to say "make a joke of it", but it's hard to do when you're feeling angry or upset. Have you found a way to get yourself to make a joke?

I was sitting in the surgical waiting area(手术等候区) at the hospital waiting for word of my wife's operation. The small room was filled with other families and friends, who were 1 waiting to hear how their loved ones were doing.

There was a young boy sitting quietly in the 2. He held a small box of 3in one hand and a tablet (写字板) in the other. Every so often he'd place the tablet on his lap and draw something. As the hours passed I began to see the room almost 4. And there was a strange silence.

"Daddy, when is Mommy going home?" the young boy asked, breaking the 5.

"Tomorrow." his father replied. The boy picked up his crayons (蜡笔) and 6 something on the tablet.

I 7him as he moved his feet back and forth, looking up at the ceiling and then toward the sunshine-filled window. "When's 8, Daddy?" he asked. His father 9 him over to sit by him. "Come, 10 here next to me," he said with a gentle tone in his voice. 11 his things, the little boy walked slowly to his father's side from the corner. The man 12 out and held his son by his shoulder.

"There are three days in life. Yesterday, today and tomorrow. One is over and done, one we live in, the other we 13. We can't live in yesterday, but if we are happy enough today, we will be even happier tomorrow," he said in an attempt to 14 the boy.

The little boy looked at him for a moment and said, "If Mommy is going home tomorrow, I'll be 15. So, I want it to be tomorrow already, Daddy."

Now hanging on every word of this 16, I leaned forward to hear his response. It was 17.

"Son, the one great thing about today is once it 18, it is already almost tomorrow."

I thought about how 19 it was. Even in my adult life, I still live waiting for what tomorrow may20. Now I know that it is already "almost tomorrow".
